bowlofcereal
$15 per person per month x 1.7 million = $25,000,000 per month 25 mill / 30 days = $850,000 a day Costly patch..

Differonnt
Yeah cause all the people that complain on the forums and claim they are quitting make up a vast majority of the player base. It's not that. This would be the first time I've posted/read the General Forums so I don't base my belief on various QQ quitting threads that I've never seen. Just general server population decline, at least 70% of my friends list inactive. When they announced 1.7 million players there were constantly 250-300 people in the fleet during peak time. Now it's about 60 in the fleet during peak.
Qoojo
Opportunity cost? To be honest, my response was more of a jack handy response. Don't try to analyze it too much. I'm here more for the humor than the information.

I guess it depends per server, for mine at least being one of the more populated ones, i noticed an increase in player activity.

For every active/populated server there are probably 2 dead ones. I've noticed everyone has been flocking to more populated servers lately in an attempt to get better WZ queue times, more people to group with for dungeons, etc. Either way, the fact that people are migrating to more populated servers is a solemn sign that servers need to be merged. Vahzl
The free month and free day show that the coffers are full enough to sustain it through these tricky times, which shows they are both confident in their playerbase as it stands, and confident that subscriptions will continue. Also time is not meted out by a company in the same way you work it out. A free day costs nothing to EA/BW, it just steps back a payment by one day. A free month does cost, but at the same time, they can easily take that hit. I like how they are finally giving everyone what they want, and still people are wadding up their knickers. UniqueHandle
Consider all patches are done during the day CET, we should get a days refund each time there is a patch.

On the guild summit they mentioned that there were no plans for server merges. However character transfers was something in the works, i'm gonna assume this will be free for at least the low populated servers. It seems a better idea then server merges as it would give you more freedom to pick a destination.
Frankee
I don't care about their cost, I care about my compensation! Today I had a rare Friday off of work. I get exactly 8 hours until the wife comes home from work and agros me. I logged in and the servers were shutting down for 8 hours. I got exactly 5 minutes of play time on a rare day off that I wanted to try starting a new toon because Bioware made it useless to grind war hero gear on my valor 70 Battlemaster toon. I wanted to start a Marauder today Bioware, you screwed me over, and now my wife will agro me for the entire weekend into yard work! For this, you give me one free day: $15.00 / 30 = $0.50 Yay thanks! I'd rather in-game compensation. Not entirely sure how, but giving me 50 cents isn't exactly a slap in the face, but it sure isn't compensation either. I have very limited play time, and the ONE DAY I have off during the week, you take it away and give me 50 cents. I'm not saying I want a free month, or even anything at all. Just realize that 1 free day is meaningless to most people. Don't get on a high horse thinking you are doing right by the community so it's all peachy Edited April 13, 2012 by Frankee

Never looked at it from that perspective, i suppose as you say they are confident enough to give people 30 days of free play, so one would assume they can easily take that hit. I suppose it indicates they are doing better then people are thinking. Though it could also indicate the opposite, but i have my doubts about that Edited April 13, 2012 by XionoraSoulfire
AlexNOSAM
Well at least they take responsibility for the game time damage this little adventure cost us. I really was wondering "are they even gonna respond about that us losing a gaming day like that for nothing!?" Today personally was a free day for me and I really was relying on playing today - A LOT. And this whole bs ruined everything.
