Sticksabbi Posted February 27, 2012 Share Posted February 27, 2012 You don't have to go to 1.1.9 before you can tick over to a new major iteration. 1.x.x = Huge Iterations, Average Time 1 to 2 years. x.1.x = Major Iterations, Average Time 2 to 3 months. x.x.1 = Minor Iterations, Average Time 1 to 2 weeks. To add to this, patch nomenclature doesn't follow base10 numbers either and is usually just made up by the developer. I.e. you can have a version number like v. 1.3.32b. Basically even if we were currently up to 1.1.9 that wouldn't necessarily mean that the next patch would be 1.2.0 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The only rule is that version numbers be ordered in some way, so people inside the company can easily tell which came later.
