Dragondog
Go to preferences. At the bottom there's a tab for keybindings. And then you can bind the key you want to the slots you have your skills in. Edited February 16, 2012 by Dragondog

CzaplaM
You can keybind skills to any buttons on your mouse or keyboard. It can take some time to figure out exactly what you want, although it is very simple!
Baelish
It's worth noting that there are other places where the 'tab at the bottom of the screen' interface nonsense can trip you up. Off the top of my head: Your Abilities pane has tabs for more than just your Class abilities (shown by default). There are also tabs for: your "General" abilities (that everyone gets, like Revive and Fast Travel); your Advanced Class once you've picked it up (this has tripped up a lot of people, judging from posts in these forums); Vehicles (later on); your Companion's Abilities. The Quest Log pane also has tabs for other stuff. The important one I remember is the Codex. This one had me stumped for most of the beta stresstest weekend I participated in: the only time I could read a Codex entry is when I decided to read it when it first popped. Couldn't find how to access the Codex at all once the "New Entry" popup had faded. There are probably other places where it can bite you in the patookus, so keep your eyes open.
