MMO Vets, What do you think?

Reminds me of the Tabula Rasa situation. The game was a great idea, however there were too many bugs upon launch and it never recovered from the wreckage. I miss that game more than I enjoy playing this one.

Tabula Rasa was actually GREAT up until the start of the last beta...the game actually played more like Halflife and had FEWER bugs until they slowed down combat and leveling to make it more like an MMORPG.

Biggest mistake I ever seen in beta changes...those kind of changes normally come at the end of Alpha and the start of Beta.

EQ2 was a very indepth game it has complexity to it. Many did not like the complexity at launch. But from the stand point of being a game with alot of content for end game it did not have that at launch. It did have some massive single group dungeons that to this day MMO's have not tried to replicate. But raid zones were just closets of off other zones you stepped into and tried to kill a massive raid mob. the thing it did do was add content rapidly . very rapidly. it increased lvl cap and had a full blown expansion 6 months after launch.

For a veteran MMO player it had a lot of features to keep you busy and really supported guilds with its content. EQ2 is a classic and i played it longer then any other MMO and my sub cycles were 6 months at a time. It was not friendly to a new player though it was hard and complex most just played WOW

I have to agree that it is complex and confusing at times. Luckily my skill and experience level with MMOs is just good enough to keep me going when I get frustrated or lost lol (which has literally happened 3 or 4 times in my 4 days of play, it can get very frustrating lol) But I always ended up asking an NPC guard for directions or simply re-reading my journal for the quest and figured it out eventually.

I guess part of the appeal is that IT IS more like real life, no one is holding my hand going ok walk 10 steps this way. It's realistic, people get lost, it happens :p

Well my EQ version of my self when I had little responsibility and a ton of free time, would say this game isn't very good.

But, I am married and have a 2.5 year old son, I also work about 52 hours per week, 4 days per week. SWTOR is a fantastic MMO that fits my life, and have no complaints about the game at all.

SWTOR is a great game if you are a casual gamer with other responsibilities and priorities.

My thoughts are in the link in my sig (http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=216855). To that post, add this:

- No day/night cycle

- No swimming

- No housing

- No Pazaak, Sabacc, Dejarik, races, casino, etc...

- Dumbed down character creation

- No post-creation character customization

- No appearance tab/outfit system

- No high res textures

- No environmental interaction (chairs, walls, doors, etc...)

- Simple combat with static enemies

- Unconvincing and stiff animations

- Empty dead worlds with not enough NPCs moving around

- No collision detection

- No stats on resources

- No crafting customization

- Restriction in choice of starship

- No ship decoration

- Dumbed down space combat

- No multiplayer space combat

- Removal of many races

- No faction change/neutrality

- Restriction and instanced planets by faction

- Less planets than announced

- Planets rated by levels with no reason to go back

- No GM events

- Removal of choice to kill companion

- Removal of possibility to talk to other faction at all times

- No RP tools

- Nothing to do post-story

- Endgame consisting on waiting in fleet

I read this and had to laugh. While there are some legitimate things in the list that would enhance the game, most of them are not only unnecessary but would seem to cause more problems instead of make things better.

This isn't SWG and a lot of these options point to the poster as being an ex-SWG player. Remember, SWG no longer exists and there is a reason for that.

As for killing a companion...why? What possible reason would anyone have for removing a companion? None that makes any sense, that's for certain.

People need to stop trying to compare a game that just launched to games that have been out for years. No game can do everything out of the chute, that is why there are updates and development cycles.

Expecting the game to be everything right from the launch is unreasonable.

You read all that, someone who wants this game to improve. You laughed and decided it's much better to 'NOT' improve or ask for ideas to be implemented. Hmmm wonder out of the two of you impede progress?

If one creates a game today and the only way it looks good is if it's compared to titles seven years in the past the developers monumentally failed. Not to mention spend 200+ million dollars and have to be compared to titles seven years back. There are a host of developers that are up to the challenge of creating and releasing a game today that can stand up to current games. Bioware unfortunately fails in this and rather surround themselves with yes-men instead of learning from their mistakes.

No amount of apologizing will hide this.

I'm playing the game.

Why are you here if the game sucks? Don't you have any hobbies?

Correction since you are quoting and posting towards me you are NOT playing the game but on the forums just as I am.

I'm here because for my 15 / month that I regret using towards this game, the forums at least help me recoup some of my money. Also the messages I post hopefully reach the developers and inform them that all is NOT well.

Yes I do have hobbies, currently I'm a college student so I study quite a bit, sometimes I like to write just random small, teeny tiny programs for fun. I play old SNES games on an emulator, SSF4EA, played some basketball yesterday, watched Big Trouble in Little China then surf these boards.

Anything else personal you'd like to know or would you rather keep it about SWTOR?

its a terribad game, boring, lifeless, tunnel vision mode, no weather/night/day, static planets, worthless NPC's SHoddy voice acting with copy n paste reused voices, copy n paste planets, crappy mounts, little or no misc stuff to do, the worst operations(raids) i have ever seen, boss mechnics and flashpoints worthless, a terrible companion system, a broken AH, a fleet to stand around on allday, 3 poorly designed WZ's, and a crap UI with no guild functions whatsoever.

Overall rubbish...

I'm not sure how you feel....could you provide more details on how you really feel please?

Moving along....

I don't completely agree with the quoted troll here, but I do think this game currently lacks quite a bit of fun factor on many levels. While I do find the game fun right now....I can easily see myself unsubbing somewhat soon. The game is simply not as good as I'd hoped, or more to the point, not as good as older games I've played. COH/COV was/is a more fun game. It's pvp has been kind of gutted now but is still better than swtor pvp. PvP is the only reason I play MMO's and one of the main reasons I had high hopes for SWTOR.

I hope they get things together sooner rather than later. The longer it takes the more subs are going to bleed out, myself included. For now, I'm tolerating it. My patience is wearing thin though....:(

Casual is someone who thinks they should be able to do anything that someone gets to do in a game just because they play the game also.

Hardcore is someone who wants to earn what he gets and welcomes a challenge that he may not complete.

Casual and Hardcore no longer have anything to do with the amount of time you play.

Woot! I'm hardcore again! It's been ages! :)

Agreed but isn't there anything you like in TOR but the forums?

Been playing MMO's since 2002 and after playing DAoC, AoC, WoW, WAR during that span I think this game is pretty bad. I can live with some things but the overall PvP in this game needs serious work. Ilum is suppost to be OPvP but its a lag fest with more than 20. WZ's are fine if it wasnt for cheaters. I dont really care for Gear rewards but I can live with it. To many bugs and when they say they fixed something they either lie or break something else. In a few months I hope it gets better, I will be trying out GW2 though. I play MMO's for the PvP and I understand this game isnt based on PvP but every MMO needs a decent PvP system. PvP'ers make up a good portion of the playerbase, why cant they make us happy?
