To those complaining about gear [Guide]

This is not a flame thread, nor is it a troll thread. I just want to shed some light on the situation and how to actually play smarter, and fight smarter. This is only concerning Warzones.

Note: I think Ilum is a complete joke so I will not discuss it. It's lame, laggy, and just stupid.

Now as we all know, gear seems to be a big factor in Swtor PvP. Well there are ways to mitigate that and at least even it out some. Here are a few things you need to keep in mind going in as a new Level 50 into PvP:

- Acknowledge that you are at a disadvantage

- Try to find a different roll or strategy other than your "run and gun" or "pew, pew, kill, kill, stabby, stab, stab" style of play

- Don't roll as a PUG, but roll with guild mates

- Try to gear up as best you can

- Play smarter and use smarter tactics

- Not all geared 50s are god

Acknowledging You are the Rookie

Not a lot people like to hear that they are the underdog, but lets face reality, you are. You are the rookie, the new blood, the fresh meat, The Newbie, and whatever other terms you want to describe a new player. Imps and Pubs alike will feed on you if you don't Acknowledge how much of a disadvantage you are. Geared 50s will do more damage to you, take less damage from you, and roflstomp you like a pancake.

You also need to acknowledge that the 10-49 Bracket is a joke compared to the 50 bracket. It requires a different style of gameplay until you are geared. Once you are geared, you can go back to your old ways. However, you may become even smarter from this.

Yes you have to be carried around a bit, but you don't have to be a complete liability to your team.

Trying out a new roll other than "Run and Gun" (THIS IS NOT AN FPS!!!)

Well now that you have acknowledge that you are at a clear disadvantage, it's time to find another way to use your class. I was like you once before, a new Level 50 Jedi Guardian. At first I thought, "Hey, I can do the same stuff and it will still work!" Wrong! I got my @$S handed to me, time and time again. My highest crit, if I was lucky, was 1k! Eventually I got sick of it, but I didn't come here to b*tch about how I was getting stomped by people with better gear.

Lets face it, whether they earned it the right way or wrong way, they have the gear. Nothing is going to change that, and Bioware is not going to take it away (This goes along with acknowledging that you are a disadvantage).

So I decided, well let me help my team more instead. Lets scrap this skill count and damage crap and try something else. As a Guardian I moved towards protection. Throughout warzones, I guard floated, taunted, and used challenging call often. My result was better survivability for my team. I didn't throw damage out completely, as you need to do that from time to time of course. I got Medals and eventually I got geared. Now I use both protection and Damage to the fullest and my kill count has gone up.

Did I enjoy this style of play? Not at first. But I learned something new about my class, in that it has more utility and more team viability than I thought.

Put away your hero hat, hero button, or anything that has to do with heroics. You're cannon fodder, so live with it for now. You're a grunt, you're a soldier. You will just die if you do this. This is not an FPS, so of course, you need to think differently.

I must admit to you, I don't have much experience with other classes (Who are not heal classes), but there are other ways to use your class other than the whole run and gun series. Now I'm just going off on a tangent, and if you have more information how to play any other class, please post it below and I'll edit it in.

Don't roll with the PUGs, Roll with your Mates (Guild)!

Have you ever rolled with a PUG group? Have you ever noticed how badly you lose at times, and then sometimes curb stomp the hell out of the other team in the lower bracket? I will be the first, and not the last to tell you this, DON'T DO IT!

The Level 50 bracket brings more game so you need capable teammates that you are comfortable communicating with. You may also have guild mates who are better geared than you. Guilds are a great tool (As long as it's the right guild) and you have more of a chance to win!

When I was like you (Getting stomped), I decided to get my guild into the PvP scene. Come to find out, there were already several people in my guild who have been pvping for a while. Rolling with them, learning from them, and gaining experience from them will help you in the long run.

Lastly, don't run off alone. The worst thing you could do it go off by yourself. You will definitely get destroyed. There's no other way I can say it. Stick with your team, or stick with someone.

I'm not saying you win every Warzone, but you will more than before. Plus you'll have more fun playing the game with people who have a common goal.

Gear up as best you can/When you can

As a new blood, you need to gear yourself up to at least level 50 blue mods. Green ones won't cut it, and even though you may not have expertise, you will survive longer and you will have more HP. Go a head and grab the level 46 pvp weapon that gives you 25 expertise (Like 500 WZ commendations). Expertise will help you live even more and it boost your damage a bit. Even though it's below 1 percent that .74% will take you a long way, especially when facing other Ungeared 50s who were not smart enough to do the same.

You can be better than the average bear, trust me.

Intelligence and Tactics

Intelligence and tactics are key in this game. The Numbers game does matter, and if you are not careful, you will get stomped. You're new (Yes I'm sure you're sick of hearing this), but not stupid. If you use most of the stuff above, I'm sure you are intelligent.

This game comes down to tactics, pay attention to how many allies you have around and how many they have around them. Communicate with your team, and try to keep in mind who is geared on the other team. Try and smash down the ones who are not geared first, this will take some damage away from your geared allies so they can take down the big guys. Or you can pressure the healers, however, if they are geared, call them out so your geared friends can help bring him down.

Use a different role that your class has to offer (As I discussed above). There are other ways in aiding your team, and you need to keep that in mind.

All geared 50s God? No.

You can polish a turd, but it will always be a turd.

Just because someone is geared to the teeth, does not necessarily mean they are good. Let me tell you guys about a match I was in while I was still new to PvP.

We were playing Civil War (Alderraan), and we started the match off great. We did the basic, send 1 left, 6 mid, and 1 right. Well the imps, they all came down the middle, and smashed us (Mind you, they had a few BMs and some pretty solid geared 50s). But no one was sent right. We then began to hold bases after that. They noobish things like, over pursuits, they healed on every small bit of damage, and they even moved as a mob. Needless to say we won the match.

Now I'm not saying all of the Geared 50s are like this. There are some that are "Godlike." and will obliterate you. But that's why we play smart right? Even they can be killed.

Conclusion

Now I just discussed basic stuff and not advance things (Like how to get geared and what not). Just trying to help out some of you new guys. I feel your pain, but it's not gonna change anytime soon, so take this as a learning opportunity.

Again, I'm not complaining, not flaming, or anything like that. Think before you troll this thread because I will flag you. Constructive feedback is nice, criticism is not, but trolling, name calling, and insults I will not tolerate. Act like adults, if you are (17 or younger) don't act your age, try to act older and intelligent (As hard as it may be for some of you).

Sorry I made this long, so if you don't read it, I understand. But you're missing out if you are a new 50 or have yet to hit 50.

My Regards.
