Stephen Reid on New servers.

A quick update on today's invites, and a little preview of tomorrow.

Today, we invited people who had pre-ordered up to the very beginning of October (roughly). Tomorrow, we're going to be inviting the same number of people again; that will take us up to the last week or so of November. On Friday, we'll be inviting even more, and we'll give you an update on that tomorrow.

You'll see more servers coming online tomorrow, and almost certainly there will be some queuing. That was always expected. As a reminder, our plan here is to maintain healthy server populations post launch, and during the excitement of launch that will mean queues. That said, we'll be working hard to keep those queues reasonable.

We'll check back in tomorrow with another update.

How about you fill up the current servers before opening more? Basilisk Droid EU is bare.

So hes saying pretty much "yea uhh we are doing this to stem launch excitement and maintain healthy server populations for launch but you know, like uhhh its not gonna change anything... bro."

Early Access is designed in part to "seed" the game for the floodgates that open at release. You have higher-level players who have started the economy and can provide groups for the power-leveling players who want to run instances.

Effectively destroying that great new mmo communal feel of chaos and ensuing hilarity.

If servers are slow now then its better for you to get your questing, harvesting etc.. done before launch...there will be tons of people who get this game for christmas and join after launch and they will jump on the low population servers first so enjoy it while it lasts

Id bet my money that most players have preordered, there wont be a "massive" surge come 20th.

Yeah well, can't please everyone!!

Well if all those new servers they created last night are open for use for the waves today then yes it will please everyone. Those that don't want to trail behind others can roll on new servers, those that want to play on ready populated servers can choose those. There are lots of factors as to why people choose servers, some for friends, guilds, unofficial language selections (like spanish, russian etc).

I was merely stating why some would prefer new servers to existing ones.

:)

Edit to add this thread covers what EU servers are being claimed by various languages - http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?p=259255#post259255 in case anyone is interested.

You drive a persuasive argument.

Theyre making the Warhammer mistake. Well i think it as Warhammer where they opened too many servers too soon.

Same thing happened with Rift, soon after launch there were mergers and many new communities and guilds got destroyed.

They will stop adding new servers soon. It makes sense to add them and have all of em even then stop and let them fill up the rest of the way after release. Otherwise if you fill them all now and release with a few new servers, then people who buy the game on the 20th and beyond might log in and see a "medium" load server, go there and at prime time its so packed noone can play.
