Goloith
So in my disappointment that SWTOR only comes in a 32-bit version and having made some recent upgrades to my PC i.e. upgrading to 24gbs of RAM (just added 3 more sticks) and the fact that I'm waiting for SSDs to lower in prices I took action. After feeling like a idiot I wondered "Who the hell in there right mind gets 24gbs of ram?" I know, I just wanted to stroke my ego. lol. Stupid at first I know. So I set off to find a use for all that RAM and this is what I found: Ramdisk - GiliSoft: I like their version, you actually can try it out first on higher RAM amounts vs. only being able to use only 4gbs on other competitors. Link to their DL page: http://www.gilisoft.com/downloads.htm What does it do? I'm currently loading SWTOR from just my RAM. - I'd make sure to still keep a copy of SWTOR on your hardrive lol. So what kind of speeds am I seeing? 7200 RPM Drive Start Up from Launcher 41.1 seconds Initial Load from Character Selection 93 seconds ------------------------------------------------ 24gbs - 21gbs storage set Start Up from Launcher 22.2 seconds Initial Load from Character Selection 32.7 seconds So I'm seeing about 2x-3x the load speed vs. my hardrive. Anyways I know there are much more knowledgeable people when it comes to stuff like this and and SSD does a pretty great job. A pretty cool video also about stuff like this: Just some info on what rig I'm running: i7 920 2.67Ghz OC to 4.2Ghz ASUS Rampage II GENE LGA 1366 Intel X58 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard 24xGbs of 1600 Ram HIS 6970 1xTB 7200 RPM HDD Edited January 29, 2012 by Goloith
