Reteric
My guild asked me to DPS in our raids instead of tanking because there is so many tanks in our guild. The question that I put the community is what do you guys think is better tactics or assault and what would be the best rotation for the spec. I ran 16 man eternity vault last night, as tactics and I just didn't feel powerful (if you know what I mean). I'm looking for advise to make sure I'm doing the best I can. I currently have a mixture of champion, columi gear and a few pieces of rakata gear. Thanks for the advise.
Guurzak
For pve, Assault puts out notably more raw DPS than tactics. Tactics is a highly mobile "bag of tricks" tree which is great for kiting but lags behind for tank'n'spank scenarios. For a max DPS PVE spec, I'd probably go full plasma-based assault: http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#801hMhZMZfhMrzGhrs.1 Another option would be to go 21/2/18, that gives you much better DPS than a full Shield spec while retaining a lot of the utility out of the shield tree, and giving you the flexibility to flip to Ion if needed. qwinnet
I use the Assault Specialist spec Guurzak linked and think it does fine. I have nice tanking gear and hit Ion Cell for "Oh, *&?!, what happened to the main tank" moments. I can briefly tank well enough to give time for the MT to come back.
