It seems a PT Pyro (with more flame attacks and easier chance to proc free rail shots, which also ignore more armor) is straight up better. Then again I feel there is something I'm not seeing. Sure they gotta get in close for it, but their ranged options dont necessarily feel that much worse either. What makes the Merc Pyro competitive? I rolled a PT Pyro in Beta, much better all around than the Merc I am now. I wish I stayed PT for launch. Dont forget about the Armor pen option you can pick up from the tier 1 AP tree. As many of the powertech abilities require close range the benefits of pyrotech aren't as great.
