Ewoks - Some continuity issues!

Hey all,

So.. Ewoks! Love or Hate them, they do play an 'important' part in three Star wars films. Most people know of them in 'Return of the Jedi' where we're first introduced to Wicket and co. Just as a recap, when the Republic land on Endor and they encounter the Ewoks neither party can understand the other and the Ewoks are living a very basic existance. We're lead to believe that they haven't really come into contact with other civilisations as they a) haven't been wiped out or b) how any cultral influence in their society.

Now comes the issue of the other two films the Ewoks have starred in. Caravan of Courage --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caravan_of_Courage:_An_Ewok_Adventure

And Battle for Endor --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ewoks:_The_Battle_for_Endor#Cast

If you havent seen these films I'll keep to the basics to avoid spoilers :) A ship crash lands on Endor and the family get split up. The parents go to (a) and the kids are taken in by the Ewoks. Now.. the family speak 'Galactic Basic' as they are humans (and in the future Star Wars novels) the girl is confirmed as such when she attends a republic Academy (I believe). The Ewoks, Wicket amoung them start to learn Galactic Basic and form a bond with the children and by the second film, several of them are fluent in the language, conversing with Cindel (the girl) in matters of schooling and principles of family.

So.. what gives? If Return of the Jedi happened before the other two, then when the family crash lands the Ewoks would have greeted them in Basic and possibly a Republic presence would have been left on Endor. Geographically that would be in the vicinity of the crash due to the Ewoks presence. It's also confirmed these are the same Ewoks by the presence of Wicket and co. Also the Ewoks looted Imperial bodies for weapons and armour and this would have existed in the latter two films.

If the caravan of Courage / Battle for Endor happened before Return of the Jedi (makes more sense in my opinion). Then again, Wicket would have understand Leia when she first encounters Wicket. Also, the Ewoks would have had the looted weapons of the previous 'baddies'. Also Teek a major character in the two other films doesn't feature at all in Return of the Jedi, even though his great speed would have been of huge benefit.

On a sillier note, can Ewoks use the Force? or are they not Force sensitive? If they are then Luke when he started his Jedi academy would have surely recruited some of them?

Anyway, please discuss and let me know some theories :)

During the Thrawn series Leia returns to Endor to make a secret rendezvous so it's safe to assume there were no republic forces left there during that time frame otherwise the presence of the Millenium Falcon would've been noticed. As to the rest of it...dunno
