Thank you all for the posts. So in terms of a "timeline", if I wanted to start from the beginning The Old Republic era is where I want to start?

Title pretty much says it all. I love Star Wars but have never read any of the books. I would love to start, but just briefly looking around there are billions(exaggeration). Can anyone point me in the right direction?
