  1. Is the game no longer in development? Is it in must in maintenance mode?

What is communicated from BioWare shows that they are in maintenance mode.

There's no indication of the commitment level from BW, or if there is further development of content.

Except you know... the cenematic trailer for new content. There's no way EA would pay for that if they were just going to put the game into maintenance mode a week later.

  2. Walking Papers,

New Content already delayed with no eta, Now will be even more delayed till EA decides whos in charge and what they wanna do with TOR.

Subs are now well under, down to under 350,000 subs.

    http://www.gamebreaker.tv/video-game-shows/star-wars-the-old-republic-video/the-republic-swtor-show/

So where exactly is the source for these two claims? I'm pretty sure EA hasn't had their investor call yet and considering we've just had a major patch, I find it hard to believe that the numbers have dropped 900k since the last call.

  3. yeaaaaa

SWTOR, it is not MMO - it is movies game.

SWTOR is not MMO - it is single player game with chat and LFG script

SWTOR is not MMO - it is KOTOR & MassEfect mish-mash

    :)

Except Diablo 3 actually isn't an mmo - its a single player / co-op dungeon crawler. The most people you can interact with in game is four other people... that sure as hell doesn't sound like an mmo to me, and before you even say it as long as you're not one of the few people still clinging to an origin server, you see a lot more than 4 people in this game.

  4. I've given up hope that we'll actually see nightmare mode at any point this year and sadly its starting to look like we'll be getting Terror from Beyond first, especially after listening to the latest official podcast episode. Don't get me wrong I'm happy that we'll have something new to do Soontm but its probably going to end up as another incomplete tier, and look how that turned out.

I guess we can hope that it has more than 4 bosses this time, but who am I kidding, its probably going to end up somehow being less.

  5. - DIablo 3 F2P

    Diablo 3 isn't an mmo!

    - GW2 F2P

GW2 has the exact same model as the first one, which had no impact on any of its competitors - it filled a niche, just like the sequel will once the hype train de-rails like it has with every other mmo.

    - EVE - can be pay with game money

EvE same as GW, a niche game - completely different business model that has had no impact on competitors.

-.... think again .... after 50 level we have only WZ and Daily

and 5 story mode flashpoints, 8 Hard mode flashpoints, 3 operations - two with three difficulties, one with two..... yeah there's nothing to do at 50

  6. The new gear set for NiM EC is prefixed Hazmat (found this on torhead I believe) and is a halt step up. So itemizing must be taken into account for the development time as well..

That's a good point actually, what if the nightmare gear doesn't have a set bonus due to campaign having it attached to the armouring? Hard mode Terror could then drop a grade 63 set with the set bonus along with the hazmat stuff, that way it would work similarly to the way it does now with KP nightmare dropping BH comms.

  7. I just dont get what could be taking so long. I mean sure they had to scrap their old nightmare design and work up something more interesting for Nightmare but it cant take that long can it?

Which then makes me wonder what gear might from in Nightmare. We know it'll be a new tier of gear. But I wonder if the next ops, Terror from Beyond will work the same way as EC did.

Will Story Terror drop Campaign Loot

HM Terror drop the same loot as Nightmare EC?

If so I suppose it would maybe make sense to release them at the same time.

Or will they instead make it so that Story Terror will drop the same loot as Nightmare EC and HM Terror has an even newer tier? :S

I do hope they release it before 1.4 in a 1.3.X patch. They definitely shouldn't be holding it back to pack out 1.4 >.<

There's been a few sets data mined from the weekly 1.2 patches and 1.3 that seem to indicate that Nightmare mode (if it ever gets released) will drop a set called "Denova" gear, which will have grade 63 mods. Why do I assume this is from Nightmare? Why would a set called Denova, which is better than Campaign drop in a raid associated with the Gree.

Personally I think story mode will work the same way it does now, dropping the last tier of hard mode gear (campaign) or a black hole equivalent which seems to go by the name of "Hazmat" which is also grade 63 and uses the same MK.X system BH does.. No idea what hard or nightmare would drop though, "gree" gear maybe?

My gm also has a theory that nightmare will be released in a 1.3.x patch which will end up on the PTS sometime in the next 4 - 5 weeks based solely on the fact that releasing the revamped nightmare content along with a new operation doesn't make sense as nobody would do it right off the bat when they have something shiny and new to mess about with.

  8. For a shadow DPS the best place to start would probably be to go for the Columi / Tionese Stalker sets by running HM Flashpoints / SM tier 1 operations along with the implants / earpieces mentioned in your post, the gear you have now should be ok to do that content with. It doesn't take all that long to get now, especially with the group finder and the removal of HM flashpoint lockouts and you can easily get a full set of Tionese gear within about two weeks as long as you get the weekly and daily missions done (as well as a few BH comms if you use the group finder).

Generally any light armour piece with "Stalker" on it would be what you're after for tier 1 at least. Tier 2 gear at the moment, for most classes is a complete mess in terms of itemisation so for black hole and campaign stuff try and stick to the 'Striker (Stalker)' pieces but don't be afraid to dip into other sets (even those of other classes if only for the enhancements).

    Hope this helps a little.

  9. I thought tier one had a good number of bosses with 5 per raid. I know is unrealistic to expect 2 new operations per patch but I would have thought they would have kept around the same number for EC, what with it being a single raid tier. Obviously that wasn't the case and now we are starting to see the same effect that 'other mmo' had at the end of its second expansion and more recently with 4.2 and 4.3 - only much faster due to the low number of bosses.

I just hope the next operation whenever it comes will be more on par with tier 1 in terms of boss numbers as opposed to tier 2's 5 (the nightmare pilgrim can be argued to be the 5th boss). Don't know about anyone else but I really don't want to be in this position again another 4 months down the line because Terror from Beyond only has 3 - 4 bosses or something.

  10. This is starting to become a joke if I'm honest. I understand the need to consolidate the population so that people on the lower pop servers could see the 1.2 content before anything new was released but what about us that have been farming the content for months? Do Bioware honestly think people will be content with farming the same four bosses week in week out for another two to three months until 1.4 is released? And what if 1.4 only had Nightmare Mode - no matter how many new mechanics you add to the fights, its still the same four bosses.

The fact of the matter is this, I've been saying it from the moment 1.2 hit the PTS - Four bosses and two difficulties wasn't enough, and frankly will never be enough for a full tier of raiding if they keep this rate of content up. 4 - 5 bosses is ok if there's two, maybe three month gap between tiers but there isn't. Its been around three months since Denova was first released and the last I've heard about Nightmare mode bar the 2 second mention in the E3 conference was at the guild summit when it was revealed that it wouldn't make it into 1.2 and would launch sometime after.

So, I picture three scenarios with varying degrees of possibilty:

    1) 1.4 goes up on the PTS late July and contains both Terror from Beyond (Tier 3) and the retuned Nightmare mode for all three tiers along with the other stuff mentioned in the 1.3 leak and in the E3 trailer. Gets released mid - late august to help combat the Guild Wars 2 release date.

    2) 1.4 goes up on the PTS sometime in August and contains only the returned Nightmare mode while at the same time providing a new 'half-tier' of gear (which strangely enough is already in the files as a grade 63 set named "denova": http://swtor.askmrrobot.com/gear?n=denova#) releasing sometime in September.

    3) 1.4 goes up on the PTS sometime in August and contains only Terror from Beyond with 4 or 5 bosses.

Decide for yourself which seems more likely but sadly my gut feeling is telling me scenario two will happen, and if so, ugh I don't even want to think about it....

The best thing Bioware can do at this point is just come out and explain what the hell is going on with this because quite frankly I'm getting sick of it. My guild is going down the pan at the moment because people are sick of doing the same four bosses week in week out and this silence is just making things worse (you should have seen guild chat after that small clip of the new op in the e3 trailer). But, with the silence on the PTS forums I'm not expecting much here other than a "soon". But to be honest "soon" isn't going to cut it for much longer.

    /endrant

  11. I predict this: http://www.torhead.com/guide/leak-1.3

Pretty much everything there is from the E3 announcement bar the planet, race and level cap increase. So... I honestly believe 1.4 will be this stuff (nightmare EC, Terror From Beyond OP, Titans of Industry FP, HK-51 ect) and 1.5 will end up being the planet, race and level cap increase.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see this on the PTS as early as August. All of this stuff has been shown off at trade shows to its safe to assume its at least in internal alpha meaning the PTS cant be far behind.

  12. You have to be trolling. There is no way you are that willfully ignorant. There is no damage mit role..... there is no healing role.....everybody does damage, and heals themselves...... boss mobs just bounce agro around most the time, so no tanks. Like I said, have to be trolling, nobody is that special.

edit.. oops, sorry. caught your edit in my quote. edit faster!

On paper this is all well and good, and for PvP its awsome. I played the first weekend and for the first time in ages I enjoyed PvP, however I don't play mmo's for PvP, I'm in it for the raiding (not the loot or gear treadmill, I enjoy the tactical side of it and getting together with 8/16 friends and just laying waste to some bosses for a few hours, which guild wars 2 doesn't even have, but that's another can of worms for another time, and no - a handful of 5-man dungeons is not an endgame, not to me at least).

Now the problem with this system is that all fights just degenerate into a clusterf***k of people spamming abilites and then shouting to be picked up when they didn't move out of the fire, just as I feared it would. I know this because I witnessed this happening 3 times during multiple instances of the same 'dynamic' event (I could rant for hours on how deceptive this term is, but I won't) in the norn starting area (Hoelbrak I think?) where you have to kill the cult leader on the icy lake. Yes there was a ton of people but everyone was just nuking the boss then screaming to be picked up when they didn't move from the ice patches or the tornado, it was a complete mess. With this non-trinity I honestly don't think you can have any form of sophisticated PvE encounters because you just don't have the mechanics to deal with it. Boss damage will either be far too high and the self heals won't be able to cope, or be so laughably low that you just spam that on cooldown, and without a proper threat mechanic that comes with tanking the casters will end up getting nuked within seconds and if their personal heal is on cooldown, how the hell are they supposed to survive? Someone can taunt off them... oh wait.

I'm sure some people like that sort of thing, but I don't. I'd much rather have a system that admittedly is a dated concept but has proven it can work very well in PvE. I don't think guild wars 2 will be the second coming as people claim it is, it will fill its niche, like guild wars 1 and hell even this game before it but nothing more. it will just be another casuallty of the hype train like so many mmo's before it. Mark my words, their forums will be pretty much identical to these 6 months after that game releases, complaining about a lack of content, about how theres nobody around to do 'dynamic' events with at lower levels, about how "this game suxor and 'insert mmo here' will be the final nail in the coffin". Its a sad reality.

OT: Before the server transfers I would probably be siding with those claiming the game is dead etc etc, however I think with the transfers they may be on the track to turning things around and with 1.3 coming soon bring some pretty cool and arguably needed features this game will probably end up being fine.

  13. The second this game goes F2P I'm done. I refuse to support any company that goes this route mainly due to having to pay far more than you ever do with a sub to get anywhere, and along with the slowed pace of content production that usually comes with this transition. I have no desire to sit around doing tier whatever for a year while all of the cheapskates, trolls and people who didn't have enough faith to support the game in the first place buy their way to the top.

I don't care how well its worked for other games, I still think its just a glorified way of ripping as many people off as possible before finally deciding to shut down the servers. Games change in a lot of ways when they make this transition and most of the time, not in a way that's good for the players who've been there from the start.

  14. Because they are NOT doing them correctly ?

Another arm chair developer I see, how are they not doing them correctly? Have you seen and worked with their server infrastructure before? Have you ever implemented a character transfer system? If so then do tell how it works, if not then please stop touting your opinion on how it should be done as fact.

  15. I find it a little ironic that people were raging at launch over the fact that there's not enough servers, and during early access because they didn't get in on day one, and now people are still raging over their server not being in the first phase. You'd think people would have learned by now that raging only ever makes things worse because I'm pretty sure that if people didn't scream for new servers 6 months ago and just put up with the temporary queues that almost all mmos experience in the first few weeks, we probably wouldn't even be in this mess.

Patience people, they'll get to your server eventually. I'd sure as hell rather them roll it out in phases to make sure that it actually works correctly under heavy load than make it free for all from the start and lose characters or something.

  16. This is exactly right. Suzina missed the entire point of my post. I understand how the set bonus works on campaign gear. My point was that not only can someone with tionese/columi/rakata obtain BiS without doing HM EC, but this gear is equivalent and in some cases SUPERIOR to campaign gear.

The armorings in some campaign gear are not itemized for your ideal stats. Specifically, 2 out of 4 pieces of sorc dps gear are FORCE WIELDER armorings, which have less willpower than resolve. As a result, HM EC can speed you on the way to progress, but you will be forced to use at least some tionese/columi/rakata items re-modded with 61 item mods in order to have BiS.

Additionally, I am not full campaign gear, but as soon as 1.3 hits I won't need to be to achieve the same effect due to my surplus of black hole commendations.

This. Couldn't have said it better myself. Bioware really need to do something about this otherwise its going to end up having a pretty significant impact on raid progression from now on. If this system stays the way it is now there will be no reason to go back and do an operation after you clear it once. They need to either reduce the rewards from the group finder to make this much less viable, fix the itemisation on the current campaign gear to make it more attractive or move the set bonuses to the armorings for the lower tiers of gear.

  17. I think everyone is missing the part where it said "coming this year". Meaning the highlights include 1.3, 1.4 and possibly 1.5 (if they can push it out by December). With NiM EC not coming with 1.3 we've got a long while until a new operation drops. I'm thinking September or later.

From the footage so far it actually looks pretty far along and probably going through internal testing. 1.3 has no new content meaning that it would make sense for the level designers and artists to work on this stuff while the bulk of the programmers / scripters are working on the group finder and the rest of the stuff in 1.3. With that in mind my guess for 1.4 would be late July / early - mid August.

Most of the stuff shown seems to be from the leaked 1.3 stuff on Torhead (http://www.torhead.com/guide/leak-1.3) and I wouldn't put it past them to push this back a patch to get the group finder and transfers out faster. This means that going off this theory the operation / warzone / hk would probably be in 1.4, as they are a: part of the leaks and b: fit the whole gree theme (bar hk), while the new planet and species would be later in the year based off the survey being passed around on the general board.

Based off the darth hater preview at e3, they showed a new daily area on Belsavis which (suprise) was detailed in the 1.3 leaks, and if they are showing stuff off it would seem like the bulk of the development is actually finished. (source: http://www.darthhater.com/articles/swtor-news/20607-e3-2012-star-wars-the-old-republic-behind-closed)

Its probably a little too optimistic but it makes sense from a design standpoint, why would you have all of the designers and artists who frankly, are not needed for anything in 1.3 sit around for two months when you can have them working on stuff for a future patch to get it out the door faster? Seems like a waste of resources otherwise.

As for nightmare mode: they said it would drop a new tier of gear right? They could make Terror from Beyond and Explosive Conflict Nightmare Mode drop the same tier of gear so the progression goes:

EV / KP story -> EV / KP hard -> EC Story / EV + KP Nightmare -> EC Hard / Terror story -> Terror hard -> Terror

    Nightmare / EC Nightmare.

Bottom line: My theory is this: they pushed 1.3 back to 1.4 and the bulk of the development is actually done and is currently going through internal testing (they just cut some features from this patch such as the group finder, mod kits etc to get it out faster), nightmare EC was delayed to flesh out the next tier by making it part of nightmare tier 3. Release date estemate would be: late July - mid August.

Although I'm most likely wrong about this but based off the leaks and the content shown so far I would be willing to bet a hefty sum on this being what actually happens. But we'll find out soon enough I guess.

  18. So at least we have confirmation that there will be a new operation at some point, and judging from the footage it looks pretty far along and if I'm not mistaken, wasn't Terror from Beyond the operation from the 1.3 leaks on Torhead?

If so it seems like they pushed 1.3 back to 1.4 to make way for the 1.3 we're getting now and if so, that means that there's a chance we'll see nightmare in 1.3 after all. It did get a mention before the preview during the actual conference and I doubt they would release this along with brand new content.

  19. GW2 is absolutely going to hammer a big nail into TORs coffin.

Not only is there no monthly fee, but there's as much content, and it's presented in a far more interesting way.

And, dare I remind anyone, GW2 isn't based on grinding for the best gear; a fatal mistake TOR made by copying WoW.

Is it really that hard to understand that people still like this game? Why do you feel the need to boast about how awesome GW2 is and how it seems to be the second coming of Christ in mmo form. You complain that people are making unfair comparisons to GW and GW2 due to them having fundamentally different mechanics but its perfectly okay to compare GW2 and SWTOR? Newsflash those also have fundamentally different mechanics. There's room for both games.

People look for and like different things in an mmo, is that so hard to understand? Some people prefer PvP, some PvE, some RP, yet are those people branded "fanbois" or "drones"? I think not, why should it be different for mechanics? Some people prefer the old tried and tested mechanics (wow, swtor, rift etc) and doesn't automatically make someone a fanboy / drone or whatever else you people call us, its called an opinion, everyone has one and all of them are different, none of them are fact.

Personally I'm not at all interested in GW2 mainly because it has no PvE endgame to speak of (and no, I don't count a handful of 5 man dungeons as endgame) and I have never had any interest in PvP in any mmo I've played. I tried the beta, it wasn't for me. Those dynamic events to me seem like glorified grinding that will get old pretty fast and the story (or what I've seen of it ) is a complete joke.

Seriously, you like GW2, that's fine, you're entitled to your opinion, but that's all it is. Stop throwing it around like its fact. Just do everyone here a favour and go to their forums or something.
