  1. It's not leet to know something that has been common knowledge for months. The guy up above answered your question very clearly. Perhaps you should have thanked him for clearing the matter up for you and left it at that. Instead you got defensive and launched a passive-aggressive attack on him.

If you had not done that, then I wouldn't have dropped the hammer on you.

By "movement-impairing effects" they mean things that only effect your movement but leave you free to act otherwise. The ability would be extremely OP if it gave immunity to stuns. You could back-to-back it with whitebar resolve to have a ridiculous length of stun immunity.

  2. So i guess it is not confusing at all that a skill that says it stops all movement impairing effects doesn't stop an effect that impairs all your movement.

You are totally correct this game is the clearest possible game when it comes to CC/Roots and how they work, there is absolutely no confusion at all.

There isn't once you understand how things are classified. Yes, there was some initial confusion but that all got worked out in... December of 2011. Where have you been?

  3. Or, alternately, people can simply play PvP casually for two days per piece of BM gear, and take the same amount of time and effort any other person did before them.

...instead of throwing a tantrum on how they want their goodies RIGHT NOWWWW GIMME GIMME GIMME GIMME

I thought we all passed that phase when we reached the age of 10 and beyond.

And right here we see the main problem to having PvP gear disparity. For this person and many like him it's all about the gear and has very little to do with competition which equals fun for well-adjusted people. Only miscreants enjoy beating people they severely outclass.

What has this lead to? We are starting to see teams win-trading to speed up the rate at which they can get gear. A friend of mine went into a normal 50 warzone and had their whole team go sit on their node at the start of ACW just to get their contribution and to hasten how fast the warzone ends. So, they can get their gear faster...

This is why gear disparity has no place in COMPETITIVE PvP. It brings out the RL suck in people.

  4. new 50s need to get owned to learn what they are doing wrong.

New 50s are at this time mostly alts of people who have already played the 50 game. Since they are PvPing they have probably levelled mostly through PvP. So, unless they are an inherently bad player to begin with, they already know how to play the game and their character.

    Horrible argument on your part.

  5. You think you guys in full recruit gear get face-melted by Augmented WH's? Hardly. Try stepping into a WZ with ZERO expertise, none of your gear is rated over 100, and getting straight rocked by full BM's. You get it? All the guys you piss and moan at for wrecking you in their WH went through the same, if not worse, than you.

So, your argument is: my experience was so miserable, everyone else's experience should be miserable too.

I've seen griefers use the same exact argument when confronted on why they take their max level character and go kill lowbies on a full PvP server.

I was one of the first fully remodded BM characters on my server before the major changes were made. I cut down Centurion and lesser geared people in droves, but I did not enjoy it. I'm sure they didn't enjoy it either. The only fights I enjoyed were against equally geared opponents or 1vNs. You know those "who are the best PvPers on the server" threads? Yes, you will find my name in those.

What you don't understand about those of my mindset is that not only do we not like it when a bad player wins only because of their gear, we don't like it when we beat a good player only because of our gear. We want competitive meaningful fights regardless of which side of the gear disparity we fall on. This is something you will never understand.

  6. Many FPS games have actual PvP, and some MMOs do as well. It is when the MMORPGs try to blend RPG and PvP that CvC always appears. And again, there is nothing wrong with having CvC or enjoying it. Just don't call it what it isn't.

    Very good posts from you.

When a game has RPG elements it's gameplay is going to fall somewhere between CvC and PvP. It can never be full PvP because it has different classes, which is fine by me because I like a game having different classes. What I don't like (and I'm not alone) is when gear becomes too big of a decider in the outcome of fights.

I think it would be good to view the dynamic on a sliding scale. People who defend gear disparity and time-sink gear progression would be closer to the CvC side of the scale.

    CvC||---X----------------||PvP

While those who want skill and execution to be more of a factor in determining the outcome of fights are on the other side of the scale.

    CvC||-----------------X---||PvP

For those who tell the more PvP inclined people to go play a FPS, you are wrong. MMORPG developers have full control of where their game ends up falling on this scale. It's just the sad case that they almost always (especially over time) fall to the CvC side of things. I believe that is because they are subscription-based and they really NEED those neverending carrots-on-the-stick and timesinks to keep peope invested in their game. It's harder to step away from a game that you have invested so much time and work into playing.

Now, those who are more on the PvP side of things aren't interested in carrots-on-the-stick and gear progression. They will PVP just for the sake of PvP. They don't need rewards or gear advantages as an incentive. If the PvP is dynamic and fun they will continue to play the game. Developers have almost completely ignored this style of player for a very long time. But, that time is coming to end. Games that are too reliant on gear will never see this particular group of players again after August.

  7. You missed the other two threads here they are

http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=377751 - Exphyrl was the first to explore the hybrid AP/Pyro. BTW, he is now on my server the Bastion.

http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=406555 - Agooz made some changes

http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=465981 - Grimoir essentially redid it for vanguards

Just ran across this. There isn't alot of mystery when you are coming up with a build and seperate people will often come up with similar builds independently because certain choices synergize nicely with each other. I was running this build (except I took the chance for a railshot crit over the AoE since the AoE was not as buff way back in the old days and railshot was not nerfed) in the earliest days of the game.

I was a Vanguard so I never posted it here, but I was the first to post this type of build and make movies for it. Very few people gave this build a shot since they underestimated the value of snare, knockback, pull, and root immunity IMO.

I wanted to take a moment to revisit the AP/Pyro Build. While the build has been mentioned or brought up well in to the Beta months ago, it seems to be rarely every talked about about here nowadays other than the bit Oozo mentions in his videos. (Which if you read this feel free to input your suggestion since you obviously have been using these builds longer)

I'm the Oozo that Eph is mentioning there in his post about this build, but I long ago stopped playing Vanguard.

edit: My first L50 discussion (although I was playing it sub50) and movie for this build was posted on Jan. 8th. Don't think anyone is going to beat that. :p

  8. To me, this is not a "which class is hardest to succeed with."

That said, I'm going to go with a Guardian or Jugger. To get the most out of this class you have to manipulate both friendly and enemy targets. You have a ton of utility, but you constantly have to switch targets to apply that utility appropriately. Also, you can change stances depending on the situation. There is just more to master with this class if you are playing it to it's full potential.

Sentinels and Marauders are single-target tunneling derp classes. All this talk of number of keybinds just goes right out the window since many players are using hardware that makes dealing with the number of abilities trivial. Manipulating multiple targets is where actual skill comes into play.

  9. There is no reason why MMO PvP can't be more balanced, while still offering an incentive to competitive players.

Competitive players want an equal playing field for all. Competitive players do not want gear progession in PvP. Competitive players will PvP without incentives. They do it because they love PvP and competition.

I think one of the biggest problems in this whole discussion is that people don't know what a real competitive PvPer is. SWTOR is about to find out, however, because real competitive players won't be playing this game in a couple of months.

  10. OP said 10-49 was fun... Not 39-49 was fun. Notice when people compare 50 PvP to pre 50 PvP they use the numbers 10-49. That's because even at level 10 (now that there is sprint at 1) Its still more fun than entry level 50 PvP.

If you don't think the 50 bracket is gear dependent I propose you and your rated team equip 100% recruit gear and compete in the Rated bracket.

when it comes down to it after reaching 20 in the 10-49 bracket you are competitive and by 30 little more than skill determines the outcome of each battle but what makes people (myself included) like the 10-49 bracket is there is seldom a point where you fell completely helpless compared to your opponent. Level 10's can kill 49's in that bracket sometimes they are even more powerful because of the way bolster works. a level 10 in all level 9 blues will be considerably more powerful (stat wise) than a 49 in level 43 greens.

These are the reasons people like 10-49 not because they were farming level 10s at level 49... that would only last a few games even if it did happen. Its about not being a punching bag for people that got there first.

An intelligent and accurate post. ^

PvPers who crave skill and competition over gear advantages and time sinks won't be playing this game for much longer now.

  11. I know guilds who have 2200 rankings who run two tank pt's. They are extremely tough to kill. I prefer Juggernaughts because they have crazy stuns, and assassins because they can stealth.

Not to mention that the other two tanks have AOE SNARES which allows them to peel for their team-mates much more effectively. PT/Vanguards make the worst tanks for team play for that alone.

  12. These are acutally pretty good suggestions

Actually, your suggestions are total crap. The reason why PTs don't have a lot of defensive CDs is because they can buy survivability with range. The reason Marauders have a ton of defensive CDs is because they can't buy survivability with range.

That is the balance between the two. If changes are to be made it should be damage that abilities do, not a total rework of a class design. Heh.
