  1. I quit playing about 3 years ago and I'm trying to catch up now. I've a level 50 Gunslinger that I now need to rebuild... back when I was playing I preferred a mobile playstyle for the character and with the changes what's the best options to have mobility, damage and survivability? (PVE only, I have zero interest in PvP). Also, I've noticed the stats have changed, what are the current priorities for gearing? Back then I focused on Cunning & Power, how should I change that for the game now? For the moment I've rolled up a new level 1 to get a feel for the game now but I do want to get the old guy out of mothballs. Seehorse
  2. Update: It appears the problem is with the augment kit being in the cargo hold... now it only actually adds the slot if the kit is in your personal inventory. I'm fairly confident it used to work with the kit in the hold, in fact the mod table DOES see the kit in the hold but it won't apply it. So it seems to work like this: Kit in the hold, the table sees that you have it and lights up the apply slot button but refuses to actually do anything. Kit in inventory, the table sees that you have it and lights up the apply slot button and DOES apply the slot. Go figure. Edit: Double post??? How'd that happen I wonder

  4. Since the patch today I'm unable to add or upgrade augment slots on my gear. The mod station shows the Mk 6 mod kit and gives the "apply" button but it doesn't work... hitting the button, which IS lit up, and nothing at all happens. Anyone else having this happen? For the record, the character's a level 50 Gunslinger and I've tried multiple pieces of gear to no avail. For that matter I was trying originally to upgrade the slot on a piece of gear. It's been a few days since I added any augment slots but it's always worked perfectly in the past.
  5. Is anyone else having connection issues? I can start the game, log into a character and show good ping, then after a few minutes my ping goes red and I DC, then the game freezes up requiring a restart. I don't think it's my internet as it's working perfectly for everything else with 50MB/s down, 11MB/s up consistent. I was having no problems last night or earlier today, this just cropped up about 30 minutes ago (around 2PM EST). After 3 attempts in the last half hour all working (or not working, as the case may be) the same I'm going to try rebooting and seeing if it tracks a specific character. Unfortunately I don't have any chars on other servers to try that.
  6. In all honesty I have to say NO... I like the concept and I like many things about the game but it's a single player game; not really an MMO and I'm already starting to loose interest in it. The MMO I'm most familiar with is City of Heroes and so I inevitably compare the two. One of the biggest things I find missing is the ability to group with friends of divergent levels... in CoH there's a system in place that automatically scales everyone's level to the level of the mission holder; this means that you can have a level 10 tagging along with a group of 50's and the 10 is able to contribute. It also means that a level 50 can team with a level 10 and do the lowbie's missions and be scaled back in his power to match the lowbie so he doesn't trivialize the content. I do think that TOR has the potential to be a great game, it just needs to address it's shortcomings and do more to encourage teaming.
  7. Personally I've mostly enjoyed my time playing here, but I have to admit that it's starting to wear a bit thin. I'm a 7 year vet player of City of Heroes and for the last month this game has been a nice change of pace. Still, last night I played CoH with some friends and it brought home to me the weaknesses of this game; in my opinion CoH is certainly the more mature, better developed game. To date I've reached level 43 with my Trooper and 35 with my Smuggler and I'm starting to burn out on the constant slooooow travel from place to place while dodging mobs along the way. I see a lot of potential here, but I'm considering unsubscribing here for a few months and maybe coming back when the rougher edges have been smoothed down and the missing elements (functional UI, better keybind/macro support and an end to 5 minute loading screens) are in place. I haven't totally made up my mind yet, for that matter my sub here is paid through next month anyway, but I'm leaning strongly toward cancelling at least for a few months.
  8. Truly I can't understand the attitudes in this community. The basic UI functionality here is pathetic and once you get a character into the 30's it's nearly unplayable unless you strip many of your powers out of the bars. Some of the most basic things I take for granted are completely missing like the macro issue and even a "target thru" function. By target thru I mean you have the tank (or whoever for that matter) targeted and when you fire an offensive power you hit the tank's target and firing a buff hits the tank. I'll admit I've never played WoW beyond about level 5 but I've played City of Heroes (which by the way has far and away the best community I've ever seen or heard of in the MMO industry) for 7 years now and those are things that it had at launch in 2004... as well as a very robust and flexible keybinding function. It's macro/keybind (which were actually functionally identical, one put a button on your quickbar and the other just added that function to a key) function most emphatically did NOT allow for botting... you could only activate one power per button push. What you could do as a buffer is set up your numeric keypad (or any keys for that matter) to target teammate #1 - #8 (8 man max team size there), then fire off a buff on that player. For example, you could hit keypad 1 and target the team leader, then hit keypad 1 again and hit him with a shield. You could shift+keypad 1 and hit him with another buff. Buffing the team went "key1, key1, key2, key2 etc." That freed up TONS of room on your various trays (quickbars) for your other powers. It was impossible to set up a bind or macro to activate more than one power per button push... although you could deactivate multiple toggle powers at once. It's all about quality of life, and you have to make things convenient or players will simply go play a game that's more fun. With all the problems this game has right now the last thing it needs is to lack the basic functionality players expect from an MMO in 2012. Just a cursory glance around the net shows a really massive negative image taking hold, which I think is at least somewhat undeserved. This game has a lot of potential, but it's also lacking so many fundamentals that if the shortcomings aren't addressed it's going to loose a huge percentage of it's player base. No, I don't think it's likely to die in a year but first impressions are hard to overcome and lots of potential players are seeing only the negatives in the reviews and blogs. Myself I'm on the fence about staying... I'll give them a couple of months to address issues then decide if I'm going to stay or not. I'm still playing and enjoying COH after all so this game has to offer something to make me play here instead of there.
  9. 46 year old business owner here; I've owned my video production company since 1980... yeah, I started it in High School. Unfortunately my schedule has me on the road much of the time living out of a suitcase so I don't get as much time at home to relax and play as I'd like. My first experience with video games was when Dad brought home Pong and hooked it to the TV. At the time Pong was pretty impressive. Let's see, after that came the Atari 2600... I remember hours playing Asteroid and Missile Command. I've been computer gaming since college and the Apple II; my first computer of my own was a 286 PC with the state of the art CGA video accelerator playing several RPG's that have slipped my mind at the moment. I recall the Leisure Suit Larry series and others of that type. The Ultima series was fun in it's era... I think I played 4-7. I've played KOTOR 1 and 2 and have been waiting for this game for quite a while. My first venture into MMO's came in 2004 with City of Heroes... a game I've played ever since. I've tried a couple of others, WOW didn't really impress me and Champions left me cold after a couple of months. DC Universe I tried the beta for a few weeks and decided the game wasn't worth the money and didn't buy it. TOR is the first MMO since COH that I enjoyed. Yeah, I understand the age divide in gamers... that's part of what I like about COH; the average age there is something over 25 so you don't have much of the "l33t d00dz" attitude. So far here I haven't teamed much other than with a group of buddies who came over from COH together; we'll see if that continues. I'm also on a mid-population PVE server so that probably also cuts down on the kiddies who want to roll on the biggest PVP servers.
  10. 46, male in Indiana. Somehow most of my in-game buddies from this and other games seem to fall into the... er, "youth challenged" age bracket.
  11. 46 here, currently on Kathol Rift but I can roll an alt most anywhere... I would strongly prefer a PVE server however... PVP isn't my thing. With over 120 servers I doubt there's going to be many already established on any given one so it's likely to be starting over.
  12. That will quickly become self correcting as prices stabilize. If people are undercutting you then the demand for your item isn't enough to command the price you're asking. The problems now are twofold... first because it's such a nuisance to have to relist everything constantly people tend to not bother and just vendor items instead causing a shortage of available items on the market. It's too much trouble to leave the planet you're on, go to the fleet/capitol and list the stuff, particularly when a fair amount of it will come back to you the day after tomorrow. The lack of a supply on the market makes it less useful for players trying to find things so they don't bother and just go to the vendors for their gear. Also the lousy market interface makes finding items a chore. I've come from City of Heroes where, while admittedly our market has it's problems, at least there tends to be a decent supply of most items and prices tend to hold relatively stable. The very most desirable items are, of course, in short supply and priced accordingly but you can drop by the market on your way to a mission and toss stuff on the market and not worry about it; it'll stay there until you take it down or it sells. If you price something too high then yes, it'll sit there unless you take it down (paying the commission) and relist it at a lower price. Because of that, and because all servers and both sides use the same market, there's nearly always supply and a given item tends to always sell in a given price range. It means that good items tend to be more expensive and rare while the junk tends to always be available dirt cheap. That means that buyers can find stuff they want while sellers get top dollar for the good items they have drop. Naturally the rich players have an easier time getting top tier stuff, but the perfectly good lesser stuff frequently sells at bargain basement prices allowing the rest of the players to acquire good items at good prices. Sure, everyone would like to have the absolute top tier stuff but that stuff is rare and very rare because it doesn't drop often. The nuisance of constantly relisting items causes a lack of supply almost makes the market irrelevant; if you need it then it isn't for sale and if you want to sell it the buyers aren't there.
  13. Also, REMOVE THE TIME LIMIT for stuff to sell! Since you can only list items for sale for a max of 48 hours it's a real pain to relist things. Because of that I toss stuff on the market and if it ends unsold I simply vendor it... it isn't worth the trouble. Lately I haven't even bothered tossing much onto the market in the first place... I'm just going to vendor it in a couple of days anyway so why bother? Added to the ludicrous anti-"search" function of the market it's hard finding things even if they are listed for sale. If the dev's want the market to attract interest and be functional for players then first you need to have a "list until it sells" option (as default) and you need functional search tools to find what you're after. A second goal would be to link the various server markets; this would lead to far greater availability and stable demand from server to server. One server has a glut of item "x", another has an extreme scarcity of "x" but loads of "y". Linking the market cross server takes care of both problems. I find that the market here is one of the worst design decisions in the game, along with the extremely slow travel (hey, we fly in FTL starships and have self aware droids as companions yet we have to WALK everywhere? And our "high tech" speeder bikes can't break 30MPH? Didn't the speeder bikes in Return of the Jedi move MUCH faster than that?) and a rather shortsighted armor design for Jedi. Still, for all the (plentiful) warts in the game I am having fun at the moment... there's just so much room for improvement it isn't even funny.
  14. Hey Kinrad, nice seeing another Guardianite here. Local Man, myself (CMA) and a bunch of the Steel Authority guys have set up shop on Kathol Rift and have been having a blast.
  15. Pin was my second server, my buddies spent a lot of time partying with you drunks there in between cookie runs on Guardian. I've a few inebriated 50's over there. To demystify some of you who haven't played the COH servers have gotten nicknames over the years... Pinnacle is the "drunk" server and Guardian has cookies.
