  1. So, I'm a guardian DPS... and I play with players that have DPS'd and healed in TOP50US wow guilds...

They note that I am the highest DPS - i.e. n hardmode flashpoints we kill the boss faster when I am DPSing rather than another player of equal caliber or on Infernal council I am the first one to finish overall while I kill a marauder (highest HP enemy), our gunslinger and sentinel seems to be the only ones relatively close to me when I am vigilance spec... This may be because I am stack crit/surge and am getting lucky, but who knows.

You aren't gimped, you're raid leader/officers are naive.

Agreed whole heartedly, in ever respect.

  2. This idea may have been brought up before but without a forum search function it's hard to know...

We all know AE threat is near the top of our list of Guardian tanking problems so I've come up with a simple solution: All ranged attacks that are parried by the Guardian are reflected back at the attacker, causing no damage, but pissing them off and acting as a mini-taunt.

I think this solution stays within the lore so it doesn't feel clunky and break the immersion. It doesn't add any DPS in case the developers feel that our tanking DPS is fine. It's not a 'free' threat generator in that you still have to parry an attack in order for it to generate threat on the enemy. Also, in my mind, it seems like it would be fairly easy to code.

I think it's a simple, elegant step in the right direction to solve our AE threat problems.

This would be awesome, haha. I fully support this. Doesn't break the class by adding DPS/other balancing issues.

  3. The concept is present, even in a group of nothing but max level characters. Some are more powerful than others due to gear differences. SOMEONE is always going to be the weakest in the battle, and it's usually the guy that spends less time progressing his character.

I do believe that there should be expertise on the level 40 set, but even then, it would be dramatically less than that present on the level 50 sets, which would still put you (the lower level characters) at a disadvantage.

In all instances, the real problem is that people would rather make someone ELSE weaker, instead of taking the time to make their own character stronger, even when making your character stronger is the central focus of the entire game.

There's plenty of ways for you to make your character stronger. Stop complaining that "the other guy" used them and you didnt. If you KNOW that level 50s wreck lower levels, wouldnt common sense say that you should get to 50 yourself? Nothing is stopping you.

You're making the assumption/generalization that everyone who's not yet 50 just "don't want it bad enough", or don't want it at all. What a ridiculous concept, made by a ridiculous train of thought.

I have a wife, and a full time job, and other obligations that prevent me from playing this game even 3 hours a day, most days, but that doesn't mean that I don't want to enjoy the game in as many ways as possible. The point being made is that joining a pvp match and getting steam rolled is not fun, and makes it impossible to even do the daily.

Now, I will say this: at lvl 39 as a Guardian i'm actually standing up to most fights, as long as it's not 5 on 1. There was, however, a lvl 50 operative last night that would jump me from stealth and completely demolish my health bar before I could even get off the ground.

Now, this issue is being addressed, 50's will have their own bracket. Everyone can chill out. It's all gonna be ok. Please stop feeding the trolls, and take a deep breath.

  4. thats pretty hardcore, im using the right number keypad and i have just kinda ran out of room.

my brother, welcome to the wonderful world of modifier keys. Bind Shift+1-= and you've got yourself another 10 buttons. Add ctrl+1-= and you've got 30 keys total.

Honestly, though, I only have bound 24 keys, and I do fine. In regards to cyclone slash, your main responsibility is to hold aggro, and whacking 5 guys at once is a great way to do that. Not to mention, as was said before, that with 5 mobs the DPS of cyclone vs slash puts Cyclone at a distinct advantage.

My suggestion: For multi mob pulls, cyclone is a great aggro builder, and the DPS output aint bad at all. Not to mention, it's a super fast focus dump. For single boss fights, avoid cyclone slash.

  5. I'm level 37 and have had no problems tanking as long as the group coordinated. If you set up a kill order, or just ask that they focus fire then you'll be fine.

I started tanking Flashpoints at the hammer, and haven't had any problems since. In regards to DPS, there's good evidence that the Guardian DPS is absolutely comparable, and his survivability is competitive. It's just a different play style, and honestly doesn't feel incredibly strong till around my lvl (35-37).

Doesn't listen to the nay-sayers, my friend. The guardian is absolutely viable, and I really enjoy him in PVP, and PVE.

Not to mention - force push.

  6. I just wanna encourage you guys, if you're continuing to have this kind of issue with this guy, and believe that your mechanics aren't in question, we might need to analyze you and your companions gear.

I was doing synthweaving, and had attained a few moddable pieces which I updated as much as possible, so my gear was pretty much maxed out.

Also, consider that this is a really tough fight, and I think the purpose of such might very well be to give you an understanding of how the class will play as you progress. Later, on Tattooine, you will run into 3 elite mobs, that you take on one at a time. They're hella tough, but what you learn here will make you better suited for the upcoming Chapter 1 conclusion, and the later more difficult content.

Stay strong, and continue to voice your questions here.

  7. I am a bit curious how people got to this boss @ 24?

I realize that I am doing about every non heroic quest I see and space missions for money, but I'm lvl 33 and only started Alderaan.

The boss in question here from what I have been told by other JK is ~32... Seems to me that if the boss is level 32, its intended to be fought at +/- 2 levels of that boss, not 8.

If we're talking about the Sith force user you fight on the mining colony he is definitely intended for around lvl 24.

  8. Where did your idea of a Jedi come from?

The Jedi in the movies spent 90% of any fight chopping things up with their lightsabers. They were swordsmen with energy swords. They weren't using telekinesis or mind control all of the time. The Jedi Guardian is the closest in terms of combat to the way Jedi are portrayed in canon, except in heavy armor.

Now, if you paid attention to the storyline in the beginning, you'd know that the Jedi Knight isn't a new Padawan. You're on Tython to finish your training in preparation to becoming a full-fledged Knight, and you've already undergone significant combat training. When the distress call comes in saying that Padawans are under attack from Flesh Raiders, you are asked to help because you know how to fight unlike the other Padawans around. You're basically at the same point in your training that Obi-Wan was at in Episode I, where you're almost but not quite a Knight, and perform an act of heroism that convinces the Jedi Council to elevate you to Knight without going through formal Trials.

    quoted for justice.

  9. Bit of a noob here but I beat him on the third try at lvl 24, mainly because I began to use interupts after reading this and other threads. What gets me is that I still can't beat those assassins at Anchorhead on Tatooine. They take Kira down in a second and me shortly there after. Anyone else have that trouble? Honestly, I had an easier time with Valis and he was a 24 elite.

I went into the Harrower fight's knowing they were going to be hard, thanks to the posts on this forum. I was lvl 32, I believe, equal to them. I leapt in - started wailing, got them down to around half health - maybe a quarter health, and they did their channeled debuff - ran the hell away while they channeled, and Kira gets waylaid. Finished each fight pretty near death, but didn't burn call on the force on any of them.

Always, always, always use blade barrier, and the other defense buff. Keep in mind I maintain my gear with every planet.

  10. Which is totally awesome when you have a DOT on you.

I sometimes use Enure when soloing, too, if I'm trying to take down an elite or champion, though typically I save it if it's a "clutch" battle where both myself and the enemy are close to death, it just gives me enough time to finish the battle before the health wears off. I'll usually meditate as soon as the enemy is dead just to be safe, especially if I have a DOT on me, so that I can avoid that annoying situation where I win a fight just to die right afterward.

Be careful with it, don't let it give you a false sense of security. It's not a heal, it's something that buys you a little time for the very end of a fight, or if you drop very low in health and your healer doesn't get to you quickly or is otherwise occupied (stunned, trying to heal himself, out of energy, etc.).

    well said.

  11. I am happy then, most sith are noobs :)

seriously, go drink your milk and troll somewhere else, I am using a troll shield

If you dont want to improve your skills, or share your experience, it is useless to spam here, my purpose is not to grow my e-peen in the net, but just to show the potential of our class

Props to you for not feeding the troll, well done, sir!

  12. A couple points in vigilance for the upgraded sweep, and upgraded sunder - then all defense, baby.

I've had no problems leveling, and i'm 35. In fact, i've soloed all class content without dying, which is, apparently, by these forum standards, something.

  13. Agents/Scoundrels are using their allies for their own purposes, be it credits or death star plans. Mercenarys/Commandos are going the 'Team First' route.

I would agree that a self-heal would help the class out a bit as Call on the Force is just so diddly it's far more valuable for an additional saber ward when you need it than the health it provides.

Something with a long CD so it would have to be used strategically rather than a focus cost one that boils down to 'spam strike/sundering, use heal, repeat' deal.

But I'd rather have a Force Pull first. Guardian's are better suited to direct interventions than a support role. Pocket healers are waaaaay better at that.

1.) Call on the Force provides a significant heal for really tough solo fights, it lasts forever. People who don't use this ability, and yet complain about tough content, are out of their minds. This should power you through the toughness of that story boss. Except for the Harrowers, good lord, the harrowers...

    - the fact that it's on a 20min cooldown is another issue, and, yes, I do that sucks.

2.) Having two DPS specs gives the ability to spec for a PVP centric skill set buff, or a PVE skill set buff.

    and there you have it.

  14. I started leveling a Sage (in 20s) and even a bounty hunter (around 15) while I let my guardian (almost 50) get rested XP between sessions. I was AMAZED at how quickly I killed mobs on the other characters (even a heal spec'd sage) compared to the Guardian. Now, I can't soak damage like the guardian, and that is the point, but I was really amazed.

We are the real tanks of the game. Sit there and get pounded on while others do the dirty work, and occasionally unload a barrage of our own that softens up the target.

Once you accept that we are large shielded targets with a bullseye on our chests, the better you will feel about playing one.

Have you forgotten that the Jedi Knight destroyed NPC face with extreme prejudice all the way to level 30? For that matter, I'm still wrecking on Alderaan, but it should be noted that every class can mop the proverbial floor with enemies at least until 30, where some skill and understanding of the class is absolutely required to be efficient.

By the way, I do not mean to sound rude :) just wanted to shine some light your experience, and remind you of your own earlier experience with the Guardian.
