  1. Hi

2 questions for 30 Sent PVP player

    1 Best Spec { I have been doing combact, but guildies said Focus is best}

    2. Please share your talent trees

I want to own WZ's and do good for the team

Which spec strikes fear in the Imps?

    1. Take it to the Sent forums, you'll get much more info there for players who focus primarily on playing Sents.

    2. You're level 30, spec how you want and go for it. Until you hit 50, it's not a big deal (ok, you could blindly assign points and make something terrible, but it's not likely). Use pre-50 as a time to play with different builds and find what you enjoy. Experiment a bit, and if you're not happy with what you're doing, then look at some suggested builds from other Sents.

  2. No, smuglers uses blasters IA uses rifle, BH uses blasters trooper uses cannon/carabine and they are not mirror like jedi knight/sith warrior, they are similiar but yet they are "unique."

They are mirrors. They have the same exact abilities and functionally are identical -- only different gear, which is ultimately the same in the end.

  3. Following the EA presentation at E3 today, we now know that a level cap increase will be coming in the not-too-distant future. Whether through a free update or a paid expansion, we'll be leveling up again within the next year. Now, assuming it goes up to 55 (could be more, but just for the sake of argument), do you think we should get another skill point at each level?

The existing skill trees would have some serious potential for OP builds with 5 more points, even worse with 10, though adding another tier to each tree could offset some of this. I just know the balancing issues that increasing the level cap in WoW has created with every expansion. So i thought I'd see what other players thought:

Should an increase in level also come with an increase in skill points?

PS: (Keep in mind, they can always add new attacks through trained abilities, even without expanding skill trees)

  4. You are probably about the millionth person to post something like this...

    1. They already have mirrors (Trooper=Bounty Hunter; Agent=Smuggler).

    2. Stories would be too similar/boring. An Imperial trooper is essentially a nameless piece of walking cannon fodder, and not expected to excel like a soldier in the Republic. Also, the Agent story is already an Imperial military story. Yes, a Republic intelligence and spy story would be interesting, but again there's already a Rep military tale.

With the amount of work needed to create an entirely new story (or two) in this game, they would really need to bring something new and different -- such as a full Wookiee or droid story that is different from any other experience in the game.

  5. OP: i assumed you were leveling a marauder, then i saw you say you're a Juggernaut -- you're doing it wrong. Jugg leveling is incredibly easy and you should be rocking pretty much anything at your level (including fights with elites unless you're trying to solo Heroics). You said "CC" but you really meant a 1-minute CC, which is why people are responding about Force Choke, etc... "CC" simply means Crowd Control, which Juggernauts have in abundance (especially Immortal spec) -- not just the one-minute abilities that some other classes have. No, Juggernauts don't have those, but they have multiple defensive cooldowns, heavy armor, a tank spec, and access to a healer before almost every other class in the game.

For normal mobs, roll Vette and you should always be fine. For a harder target, get out Quinn and again, you should be fine. If you really find leveling so hard, respec as Immortal and gear up with a decent shield, etc. and easy mode your way to 50.

PS. My main is a level 50 Jugg.

  6. Because of Gold Sellers and spam. But how do you know this will happen w/o actually trying?

Because it's been seen again and again in other games. If you have trial accounts without chat limitations gold/credit sellers WILL use it for spamming people with messages. We're not making it up; it's been seen repeatedly in other games, which is why we're at this point. Paying customers should've have to suffer through spam messages in /1 just so someone playing for FREE can more easily find a group. Plain and simple.

  7. You give away stuff when it isn't worth as much. Using WOW, a game that is now 8 years old sitting on cruise control until Titan comes out, as an example for your 5 month old game that cost more than any MMO in history is...stupid.

This is huge news for them and not good news.

Once again -- D3, the fastest selling PC game in history -- was released with guest passes that could be used to play a free to level 13 version of the game. It's becoming a standard move for online games (such as MMOs) as a replacement for demos that single-player games typically have. The industry and market have changed, this is just keeping up.

  8. I thought whispers with them, or party chat was allowed. If not they should be. I can understand cutting them off from general chat, but there is no reason they shouldn't be able to whisper or use party chat. If they are a gold spammer, all that requires is the "report spam" feature, that's why it's there, but this is a lousy move to limit gold spamming. That being said, sometimes even general chat is necessary if they want to LFG for something.

It's not a "lousy move" -- it's standard for pretty much any MMO with a free trial.

  9. But took WoW a long time to go F2P. ToR has only been out for 4 months. That doesn't seem all that successful to me.

But WoW has it -- it doesn't matter that it took them so long. They are still the MMO industry leader, so it makes sense for BW to compete at the same level. Restricted weekend events only work if it's a big deal and thousands of people are clamoring to get into them. A simpler model lets people try out the game and decide if they want to pay for it -- it's a very successful method which is why games do it (such as D3 which just came out!).

  10. I think that thinking like this is really what put this game in jeopardy. It's something that sounds good on paper (retaining the mood of the place, time, etc.) but in application with players visiting the place it sort of falls apart. Our sense of things in the real world is paired to a sense of things happening in a linear manner along time.

The frozen worlds of SWTOR literally bore the senses because the elements that should be there are not. Day/Night + Weather should not be the main focus of your perception, but when added to the world bring more horsepower ot the experience.

The static nature also makes this game an unchanging maze where the solution to the maze becomes known but is expected to be repeated through alts. Ice Cream is good until you have to eat the same ice cream every day without variation. Some people here are stuck on, "but Ice Cream is good." Every game has an entertainment lifespan, but this one as a very short one, and it should not have been this way.

I still disagree. I really don't see day/night cycles as something that contributes that much gameplay or new experiences to a game. I played WoW for years and the fact that Westfall would go from day to night was NOT any kind of reason (big or small) for retaining my sub. Much bigger issues are in play that have hurt this game than the lack of day/night cycle.

  11. You don't go to the biggest gaming convention there is with no new information or hype about your game. Even blizzard will be there hyping something new about the Panda.

No. Blizzard along with many other developers are not even going to be at E3. Blizz really hasn't cared about E3 since Blizzcon turned out to be such a huge success. LA will be revealing info about 1313, but other than that, i'd be really surprised if much of anything new regarding TOR came out of E3.

  12. What words would you like? We know they're coming, we know the 1.3 PTS will be up in the next couple weeks and transfers will be in or before 1.3. Exactly what more do you want to know?

I'm not defending BW or anything, i really am curious what info you think should be released. Oh, and in advance, don't say a date for 1.3 because NO developer releases dates for major updates weeks in advance.

  13. replying to the bolded part. There was one zone in EQ that spawned lower level mobs during the day, and much much higher level mobs at night, making it very dangerous to move through after dark. TOR needs to go old school and borrow that particular element.

I won't lie -- that's awesome. I never played the original EQ, knew a friend or two that did and back in those days with my 56k modem it just seemed like a pain. That concept, however, is very cool. I'm not sure how well it could work in a setting like TOR, but it seems like something more fantasy games should look into to spice things up a bit. That kind of meaningful content based on the game world would be great and i'd have no problem with it -- i don't see that happening in TOR anytime soon, however.

  14. Are you actually paying attention to my comments. Day/Night cycles on the same planet. I.E. Night time on tattoine and then daytime on tattoine not different planets. Not saying you have daytime on one planet and then you have to go to a different planet to get night. I am saying day/night on the same planet.

And with regard to the weather, It could be sunny for a little while and then it changes on the entire planet to rain or snow not isolated zones. It other words it changes for the entire planet.

They have it set up for one time of day on one particular planet not cycles so in essence day/night does not exist on all the planets in the game.

And just to answer your question I'm been playing the game since beta.

Fair enough -- your comment that I quoted and replied to did not say you wanted day/night on the same planet. Maybe you were implying it, but it wasn't in the post so I was just commenting on what you said. Go back and re-read it as someone without a sense of what you were trying to say and i think you'll see how I saw it and understand my post. Now, based on this and understanding what you were trying to say before:

You're right, there are no day/night cycles and we all know that was on purpose and part of the design. It's something I actually agree with. Day/night cycles have never brought anything altogether meaningful to games i've played -- they're neat and perhaps immersive, but nothing really to them. I like the fact BW chose certain times of day to create moods on various planets. You don't seem to, but it's purely a matter of opinion so i'm not about to argue it.

As to weather, I still say it's in the game, there's just not enough of it. I think we're kind of on the same page with this point, that you'd like to see a rain storm start and end randomly on a planet like Voss or Belsavis. Even on DK with rain, it feels a bit too bland, and seems like it should become extreme sometimes or peter off. I'm just saying there is weather in the game... it's just not as prominent as it should be considering the level of mood and drama they seem to be trying to create.

  15. Day and night are not in the game. In order for them to be in the game there would need to be a night and day time on each planet and there isn't. It is never night on any planet and there is never any change in the weather. Does it ever rain, No, snow? No. You see the snow on Alderaan and Hoth but it never acttually does that.

So in essence day and night and weather are not in the game.

Have you actually played this game?

It's night on DK, it's night on Nar Shadaa, it's night on Ilum, it's around sunset on Voss, it's Day on Coruscant, day on Tat, etc... Those are different times on different planets, exactly what you are saying doesn't exist.

It rains on DK, there are snow storms on Hoth in some zones. There is weather in game, just not enough of it (IMO).

  16. Day/night cycles and weather are certainly not in the game. A cycle involves day and night happening on the same planet, which they don't. Sandstorms on Tatooine don't count as weather.

I didn't say "cycle" -- i said "Day/Night". I like the fact that the day/night changes based on different planets. DK in full sun would be just strange and lose it's aesthetic immediately. Similarly, I love the eternal night of Nar Shadaa.

Snow storms on Hoth, rain on DK, sandstorms on Tat, etc. etc. There is weather in the game -- like i said, they just needed to expand it onto more planets and make it a bit more dynamic. There aren't enough snow storms on Hoth, nor enough sandstorms on Tatooine. There should be more dramatic weather on some parts of DK, and additional weather events on other planets. My point was that they did put these things in game, they just didn't go the whole 9 yards in implementation and it feels sort half-***ed.

  17. It is missing things that are standards in a modern MMO like FULLY customizable UI (IE 3rd party), housing, LFG tool, day/night cycles and weather, many more character creation options and an appearance tab (so everyone doesn't look the same), etc. They don't even have a decent way to search and filter the GTN. What passes for raids in this game are simple and boring compared to what SOE and Blizzard do. The PVP is non existent in the open world. The warzones are cool but they need a LOT more of them.

The current UI is just fine and could use a few more tweaks but really doesn't need addons, mods, or other 3rd party stuff. Housing would be fine in-game if the ship really had a lot more going on. It needs serious internal customization so that it feels like your personal home/ship and you can make it match your character. Being able to change colors, place/move trophies and other items you buy or get from ops, etc would all make housing irrelevant and have the ship take it's place. External customization would also be nice as it'd make the ship combat more engaging.

LFG tool is on the way, but should've been in at launch. Day/Night and weather ARE in game, they just chose a certain approach to give each planet and area its own feel. I actually think their approach is great, they just needed to add a bit more variety, especially with more weather on numerous planets. Appearance tab wouldn't be necessary if they made many more orange patterns and gear, as the current mod system would work perfectly if it wasn't so limited.

My point is, many of the things you ask for are in the game in one form or another -- just poor execution has led to good ideas not meeting their full potential.

You need to realize that a third party customizable UI is not a "program", and it doesn't automate anything for you.

I assume when he read "Fully customizable UI (IE 3rd Party)" he read it as "macros/addons" based on his response.

  18. Sorry it's not SWG 2.0, it was never meant to be SWG 2.0, nor advertised as such.

It sounds like the game just really doesn't hold anything for you, which happens sometimes. Moving on is certainly your prerogative, but no one is going to convince you to stay with a game that just doesn't appeal to you. Good luck finding an MMO more to your liking (i mean that, it's not sarcasm). But this post of yours was just not necessary.

  19. I agree with the customizable UI - that should have been in from the start. However, things like X-Server and LFG aren't as cut and dry. Let's remember this game had over 1.5 million signed up for betas, iirc pre-orders were at, or at least close to 1 million. Boxed sales were 2.4 million. When you expect your game to have a healthy population at the start, that makes X-Server and LFG tools redundant and a waste of development time/resources (IMO natch), and that time is better spent working on other things. Of course, now in hindsight, not having those type of things in place, including server transfers is a mistake, but you know what can be said of hindsight. I think the bigger issue was that they added more servers on top of raising server caps at launch. I think if they just raised caps, the population issue wouldn't have been such a big issue as soon as it was, and thus make LFG and transfers less of a priority at this point.

    BJ

I would agree that X-server was likely ignored for the reasons you stated, and because BW feels that it is destructive for server communities (which i actually agree with). However, there was no reason to not have a better group finder system, within each server, in place at launch. From beta, players told them again and again that even within the context of a single, occupied server, that finding a group was clunky and inefficient. They needed a streamlined system for group finding in place at launch. I also agree with you regarding server caps and launch -- i was actually a vocal opponent to them adding tons more servers during the launch week/month. I and others were, of course, drowned out by people whining about queues who are now gone and left us with about 70% more servers than we need. But, BW made their mistakes and need to fix them -- sooner would be better than later.

    To others:

Stop bringing up the "WoW wasn't perfect at launch" argument. It's pointless. Once again, when WoW launched, it did not have the level of competition in the MMO market that TOR now has. This means TOR's launch features needed to be much tighter than they were.

Also, to those saying "It's BioWare's first MMO..." -- so what? Just like the players of MMOs, they've had 7+ years of WoW and the launches of numerous MMOs to learn from. Just because it's their first time, doesn't mean they couldn't look at what happened to games like AoC, Rift, WAR, etc. and learn from their mistakes/flaws/what-have-you. That's what people are so incensed about. We see the mistakes other devs made, and see how BW could've learned from them without repeating those mistakes... largely, they failed to do so.

Developing an MMO in 2012 means looking at what other games have done and going to their strengths for inspiration, without repeating their mistakes. WoW's 7-year run means devs at BW could look at the changes they've made, recognize underlying problems that made Blizz make those changes, and design TOR from launch to avoid those issues. Too many times they just followed suit with what other developers have done over the last decade without trying to move a step further or avoid the pitfalls of other companies and games.

  20. Nope and the simple reason why is that SoE licience expires in 2012 and they had no plans to renew it.

Given the obvious fact SW:TOR was being developed while SWG was live would tell you that Lucarts didn't have any real plans for SWG.

He's talking total game lifetime, not year dates. So SWG was around for about 7 years; OP's saying he feels like TOR won't last that long, which was unthinkable a year ago.
