  1. Eve is dumb in my opinion. what is the point of a game where your only option practically to skill up/level up whatever you want to call it, is to basically sit around and wait. Someone logging for 8 hours a day against someone who logs on once every 2 weeks basically cannot gain any advantage other then monetary. the skill ups are 95% time based. if you ask me that makes it more casual then any other mmo out there. you cant even get into it without having a sub for at least 6 months to gain a few skills, and even then you can still never catch up to anyone who has been playing for even a year-2 years more then you, and the game has been out much longer then that. It practically doesn't even allow new players to get into the game. the system is actually kind of counter-intuitive to itself in that matter. Skill ups = casual style, but at the same time you can't be casual to catch up to any degree to anyone? what ? And a lfg tool and cross server (at least for this game) is pretty necessary. i don't want to have to sit in general chat spamming a message every 90 seconds for 30 minutes to get a healer or tank, or if you happen to be on a low population server, waiting 30 minutes for a warzone. its an mmo standard for convenience to allow more fun time and less wait around and spam time. That doesn't make it any less casual or hardcore, it makes it more fun with less bull**** time. But yes, there are many more casuals playing nowadays then in years past, not that i am one, so that's who developers will cater too. there is probably twice as many casuals as hardcore players out there so what do you expect. I would like to say i should be rewarded for playing twice as much as joe shmoe, but it wouldn't be very fun for joe shmoe to not only probably not be as skilled or knowledgeable as i am, and on top of that never be able to have gear as good as i would have. Or maybe they are as skilled or more then i am, but don't have the time to invest to get geared and play at the top level, also not fun for them and they wouldn't stay playing this game knowing they don't have the time to invest.
  2. i too miss swg pre combat downgrade (lol). But what can you do.... they tried to copy wow in order to save the game and it just failed because people played swg for the free roam, social aspect of it, and the unique classes. it had it's own unique feel to it entirely. trying to copy wow just screwed the pooch, and now every other mmo is trying to copy wow also. i remember logging into swg after the downgrade and they even changed the movement to copy wow. some do it more sucessfully then others but i don't think we will see any other unique mmos like swg pre combat downgrade, not for a very long time at least. the new mmo standard is to make everything available to everyone. You won't see a crafting system like swg again i'm sure. imagine how many people would complain if they couldn't craft something as good as joe shmo who went out of his way to collect all the best resources with the highest stats to create the best weapons and armor on the server and not very many could compete? There would be an outrage from the casuals and the lazy. Everyone wants everything available to them, and with not too much work involved. The gaming community is much larger then it was before, and there are way more casuals to cater too. Which i can't exactly fault the developers for, but it does indeed make me a sad panda. God i miss templating, being able to take certain tress and such from different classes to make a super hybrid class. ahh the nostalgia
  3. The only reason i judge this game is based on i don't think it brings too much new to the table, and there isn't nearly enough content to drive the game at this point, at least pvp wise. i have heard pve fans complain the same, but i cannot vouch for them. i believe even when the rated warzones and other pvp content come out, it will not be a great pvp environment based on these 2 ideas. 1: the classes are too similar and there is not very much variation, in fact some of the classes almost play exactly the same which leaves very little room for which healing class to chose. i would imagine that a certain class will always vastly out-heal the others based on their energy pool mechanics. 2: small energy pool that relies on energy regeneration and management completely. I believe that once warzones come out, it will all be about burst dps and you won't even be able to save people without using all of your energy, which then puts you in a very low energy regenerative state (scoundrel point of view). I mean sure, another well known mmo's pvp is based on burst dps as well, but there are cooldowns used in order to counter that burst, whether it be by utility moves (lowers damage target takes, target cannot be slowed, healer itself does more heals, ect) or you can even just spam a bunch of heals and then regenerate that energy thru other skills/breaking combat. In this game you can't just spam heals or you are screwed after 4 or 5 heals, and breaking combat takes wayyyyyy too long to even be an option as a healer in this. we shall see how it works out, but i fear the worst sadly. i really hope they can get it right and that is one reason they set the rated warzones date back.
  4. why would u get an ssd for faster load times and not put swtor on the ssd so you load faster? i don't really understand what your asking.
  5. its already been in development for like 3-5 years? i mean we first heard about it about 2 years ago so they were prob working on it before then. and bliz is pretty good about keeping a lid on things. maybe 5 more years but i could see it out in 3.
  6. how can you help someone master the controls by telling them how to play. its a matter of practice and having effective keybinds. especially if you are a melee. edit: just wanted to reference i added a bit more to my post before as far as character movement is concerned, think it should be helpful. gl!
  7. keybinds. the best ones to use in my opinion are ` 1 2 3 4 r t f g c v x z and also using shift+r/f/c/g/x. if u have mouse buttons that works as well. i have my wheel button set to autorun and then one extra button that i have 2 skills on. one for just mouse button 4 and one for mouse button 4+ shift. most used skills put on f c r x g v shift+f shift+c shift+x shift+r. those are easiest to access for me. then `124z3t5 for skills you use often but not quite as much (in order of easiest access for me) . And for buffs and things that you need to use once every blue moon, just set them on a side bar and click. or you could eliminate that entirely and tell him to invest in a gaming mouse, ive heard good things about nagas for 50-90 bucks. or if hes ballin he could get the 250 dollar swtor official naga mouse lol. edit : also as far as movement, lots of using the the strafe buttons (q and e) and also strafing by pressing a or d while holding down right click (to turn camara as you move) as an alternate way of strafing. i use a mixture of both. i am always strafing but obviously when i need to turn the camara (which is alot especially as a melee) and holding down right click, its easier to continue strafing left by pressing a then to use the normal strafing button q, and still press your skill keybinds. i hope this all makes sense tried to explain it in a decipherable manner.
  8. But the quest zones are all linear anyway. anytime you see someone in the open world (lol its almost never the opposite faction, idk why they even bothered having pvp servers) you know they are either going to do the quest u just did, or they are on the way back from it. there's literally almost nothing to explore. and i thoroughly enjoyed the story on my sith toon, and even some playing as dark side reb smuggler, but the light side is incredibly lame. I can't even recall one light side choice that resulted in a clever/witty comeback with jedi wisdom/logic. It really killed the reb expirience for me. darkside choices are usually funny or snarky. its like bioware are some imperial fanboys lol. And i'd say worst design decision ever was upon killing one mob in a certain area you will now have to kill 20-100 mobs due to a "bonus" quest that you cannot abandon. forcing me to grind basically is annoying. especially if i decide to lets say pvp and do some flashpoints and i outlevel the current quest zone my class quest is in. now i have to end up killing 50 whatevers to get a quest out of my log that won't yield almost any exp from mobs, and hardly any on the completion of the quest. Imo there's just alot of bad design decisions in this game. don't even get me started on the artificing menu. 35 mods for a lvl and you have to actually mouse over the item picture to see its stats. lol so terrible.
  9. that was pretty fast. i really worked hard on that wall of text.
  10. and this is what i put in my suggestion box: Tab targeting is incredibly horrible and mouse clicking is simply not an option. its horrible for pvp beyond comprehension, granted this game's pvp is a joke anyway. You give characters a million skills, but decide macros are overpowered when they give no real advantage, especially since any mmo literate person knows how to use them. It's not overpowered to use 2 moves that do not trigger a global cool-down at once with one button. its convenient. that way i don't have skills i either don't use, or can't use because i waste time clicking them, or i make some whacked out key-bind like control F since all my shift+ button combos are used, and then i do something dumb like waste force cloak because I'm fumbling around with twice the key-binds i have on (some other well known mmo). not to mention I'm doing all this fumbling while trying to click targets and still play a melee character moving around. it's simply not possible and feels like a mess and it's very frustrating. skill delay is dumb. you make some animations too long instead of basically just instantaneous and on top of that there is the skill delay to begin with. so i go to use my knock back attack right? well i have to hop in the air and then jump back down taking almost a full second before it actually goes off. in that .75 seconds, the target also did his knock back, but because of latency it looked instantaneous to me, and my attack doesn't even go off at all. stupid. happens with lots of skills. a 10-49 bracket is stupid. make it 10-29 and 30-49 so it lines up with a certain tier of the talent tree so the 30-49 don't absolutely crush the lowbies. bolster is pointless when your opponents have 200 more endurance and damage improving stats on you, not to mention all the necessary skills to even be effective. my smuggler is lvl 23 and still has 3 healing moves which are basically useless for doing anything but standing in one place for 13 seconds attempting to cast after i put a pathetic hot on myself and drop like a sack of potatoes to some lvl 30+ with skills to stop casts, multiple stuns, and knock-backs. i'll give you props on the game running smoother with 1.2 i gained about 10-15 fps average and the game isn't so choppy now on my powerful rig that it didn't make me hate the performance, but the controls still feel like garbage because of excess skills/no macros and useless tab targeting. copy whatever (some other well known mmo) did please. shamelessly admit it publicly, just fix it, it's so unbelievably bad. having to go back and do my class quests when i just want to pvp and level is stupid. i don't want to go back to every planet and do a bunch of quests. at the very least, make it so i can abandon or even reject the "bonus" quests. the only bonus those quests are is a bonus ANNOYANCE. i don't want to farm out 20-60 mobs in every quest area i go to, and fear if i don't do it, i might be stuck with the quest forever because its inside a story zone or i just don't justify wasting my time killing mobs that don't give me exp because i "over-leveled" because of pvping. Its just terrible those bonus quests are actually the only reason i don't want to run the freaking class story. i like the dialogue. i don't mind running into an area and clicking some nonsense and leaving. i DO mind having to kill a bunch of stuff for no exp, just to get the freaking quest out of my quest log because some genius thought i shouldn't be able to just abandon it. Its just busy work and its not fun. fun is what I'm here for. not nuisances and work. i do understand the need for grinds. but leveling itself is a grind. and if i decide to level a different way that you provided me, you shouldn't still make me come back and kill 50 whatevers. the companions have moves that are contradictory to the class your playing. hense corso pulling in enemies when your most powerful move on a group is a grenade aoe and he ruins everything. jedi shadow have moves to incapacitate/cc and yet you give us a companion that aoe's every chance he gets to break the cc so sometimes its more useful to just not even use the companion. you need to get rid of 2/3s of your servers, and just buy some bigass servers and have poop-tons of players on one server. and then you will have a server the size of (some other well known mmo's) smallest medium pop server. I'm on the fatman, the only peak time full capacity server and theres still only 300-400 total rebels on. Your rebel story lines are stupid. your light vs dark side choices are stupid. half the time the dark side choice seems to be for the greater good or the real light side choice and yet its not. or the light side choice basically means you just take whatever they say like a little female breeding dog. You don't come back with some clever jedi wisdom. we just look like fools getting walked all over all the time. being rebel and light side is simply boring as far as the conversations and choices go which is probably why you have 3 times the imps as rebels. the auction house blows, splitting stacks blows, crafting blows. like artificing for example. you give me like over 9000 different enhancement mods i can make with different names, half of them do the same thing or almost the same thing, and to actually see what they do i have to move my cursor over the picture of it every time. its not just i click to highlight the name and see it, i then have to move the cursor and read the thing and then highlight again over and over 35 times to make sure i know which one it is i want. and its still annoying to compare. horrible. I was hoping there would be some type of open world environment like swg. nope. you can do even less in the world then on (some other well known mmo), and that's just simply pathetic. why would you make a linear game-play mmo is beyond me. the point is its supposed to be an immersive world. which it isn't. you know the guy passing you either just came from doing the quest you did and is turning it in, or he is going to go do said quest. you almost never see the enemy faction. i simply can't fathom 300 mil was put into this game and this is what was made. this game has absolutely no depth to it. gl trying to make it successful. I really wanted to like this game, but i just can't guys so gl hf. more bandwidth for you lol. disappointing too because i was a big swg fan back before the combat "downgrade" as i like to call it. This game is just too new and the functionality of a lot of things is laughable. Let me know when it gets good.
