Hey everyone, sorry for the brief confusion. Here’s what happened and how it affects you.
Some patch-related changes were mistakenly deployed early. Luckily, these changes only affected players for a very brief (less than 15-minute) window. We corrected this unintentional change very quickly.
Here’s how it affects you:
If you started or completed the patch download, you have two options:
- If you want to continue playing today, you will need to restart your client and re-download the client
- If you want to wait until tomorrow and play when 1.2 is deployed to the servers, you can close your client and restart it tomorrow after the patch is deployed (approximately 8AM CDT).
We apologize for the confusion, but only a very small number of players were affected by this unintentional change. Thank you for your understanding.
Bwahahaha.

I hate to break it to you this way, but your sub is not up in 2 weeks. Based on your post history, you received the game from Amazon on Dec, 17th. On Feb. 12th you stated you made the mistake of selecting the 6 month sub plan.
You have several months not weeks left on your subscription.
OP owned.

I fell for it. I didn't even know what today's date was. No one mentioned it at work or anything.

Iwould have hoped that they would have made other races unlockable like Nautelan or Aqualesh but no its only the same old thing. Pure Sith as jedi? How ridiculous is that?
Keep in mind, there is a Sith Pureblood as a Jedi Knight companion - the explanation for coming to fight FOR the Republic is very do-able. Even if it's only a few lines of VO work in a couple of extra scenes.

I really don't.

Trooper tanking is sort of easy, you just stand in one spot and tab target everything.
Guardian tanking is a bit tougher, but actually VERY fun because you have a couple of saber throws and two leaps/gap closers for unmatched mobility on the battlefield. Lots of jumping around and saber tosses and force push = fun. We lack AoE threat though so like I said it takes a bit more skill to play a Guardian. Also, as a melee class you don't have the luxury of being able to wrangle things easily like a Trooper does.
Don't be a shadow tank.

I could have sworn AoC had that...I remember something to do with a bridge and a horse...

Let your wallet do the talking, people. I've cancelled my subscription and hopefully the comment survey they ask you to fill out is actually read by someone who gives a **** on the design team. Sadly that probably wouldn't even be effective because they're the professionals and we are just discerning gaming customers who have no idea what we want or expect from an MMO.

Star loading Wars loading the Old loading Republic.
Whichever designer approved all the loading screens and transition screens really needs to be taken outside and have a cab called for them. This isn't supposed to be a lobbied multiplayer game, it's supposed to be an MMO.
I'm off to better designed persistent virtual worlds, I guess. It was fun at first BW, but this aspect ruined it for me totally in the long run.

It was released just to cash in big time on Xmas, it's pretty obvious. 1.2 is more like the game coming out of a beta stage, lol.

They sheepishly said April at the guild summit.
Sooo, expect a May/June release. LOL.

Filled out.

T0R-CE Mark 7 was not in the CE.

I just tried logging into WoW for the first time in over a year.
It is so OLD and terrible looking that I really can't even stare at the screen for long. I got a free copy of Cata and thought I'd give it a go but it only made me want to play TOR.
Then when I logged into TOR, I craved an open world to explore like WoW's. I'm so torn, it's quite frustrating.

As an early access player who played nonstop for a couple of weeks (hit 50 on boxing day), I used it many times since I was sorely under the leveling curve as no one was on my planets to do group content (heroics/fps) with. Taking on groups of level 39s as a 36 presents a number of problems, heh.
I relied on bonus series and occasional mob grinding to hit 50. Woot!

Just canceled my sub. Sigh.
I've been on this forum for years, followed it pre-development very closely, was hyped for years, etc. I can't lie to myself anymore, if this weren't Star Wars I probably wouldn't have bothered playing to 50. Haven't played in about a week because nothing is compelling me to log in.
The worlds and environments are boring, nothing is tying me visually to my character (brown dull robes are lame. My Columi set lacks attractive design), the traveling is SO cumbersome with all the dead space and loading screens and loading screens and loading screens. It's almost as if they were TRYING to make this game feel as much as a lobbied multiplayer game as possible. It's not a convincing MMO when everything is linear and instanced and separated with obnoxiously long loading screens. Sheesh. I'd have preferred they released the game with one or two _enormous_ planets with seamless designs instead of 16 miniature boxes to play in.

We don't need no stinking enrage timers! Let's just bring 6 healers and 2 tanks to all 8 mans!
Exactly.

After a while you start to get a 'feel' of your keystroke patterns and can honestly time the abilities based on that. You have only been doing it a short while by your own admission, just give it a little bit of time, it's worth it in the end due to gameplay improvement and being able to watch the battle the entire time.

Hmm, I feel 1.2 is going to be the deciding patch for a lot of players.

May i present something that may or may not change the world, but it will certainly break the mold. I have been following this since 2006, i am excited for it.

The other thing I noticed.... you write like a surprised player who did not know what they were getting at launch......yet you are a veteran of Squadron 157. That is baffling to me
Oh, I wasn't surprised at all at launch. I was disappointed on the first day I launched the beta back in August, but grew to accept it since the only redeeming quality in this game is the cinematic combat which is leaps and bounds over any other MMO out right now.
-
Exactly. What can be done to change this?
Nothing unfortunately. It's at the core of their design and the lobbied feel is here to stay.
The only way I can see them remedying this is by focusing on A SINGLE PLANET as an expansion. Just one massive, varied continent broken up into zones like an MMO should be. None of this garbage 20 worlds all separated by tons of load screens and dead space like orbital stations that are obvious, shameless time sinks.
This however, is unlikely to happen because BW seems to think that more planets makes the game bigger when really all it does is absolutely MURDER the illusion of a massive game world (the first M in MMO, in case you're wondering BioWare )

Yeah, this is basically a lobbied multiplayer game and the galaxy design is just terrible. Load screens everywhere, boxed and claustrophobic environments. Traveling is cumbersome to the point where it turns you off completely to go anywhere (probably why no one helps each other much in this game), you are restricted from doing any kind of enemy faction city raiding and there's basically a dead feeling to every world because there's no exploration, no wandering off a beaten path to approach your objective with unusual but effective tactics. Everything is just boxed and directed and blegh.
The only thing decent in this game is the combat, and even that is marred with issues.
Your technology needs help... lots of help... lots and LOTS of help. :(

I agree 100% OP.
I unsubbed precisely because of the abundance of, and length of time load screens take. This is a lobbied multiplayer game at best - lack of seamless design makes for a sectioned off single player feel and kills the immersion into a convincing game world to sink one's time into. Yes my sig indicates I was in beta and you may ask, "Why did you buy the game if you didn't like the game design that far out?". Well, in a beta, everything is subject to change and I was praying to the tech-gods that the horrible loading times and abundance of black screens and elevators were just placeholders for some epic polished solution that would be released for the gold client. I asked plenty of times in the closed forums back then and had no official responses, of course. There were so many obstacles during travel that they just had to be placeholders, no AAA title would release calling themselves an MMO with all this red tape in between traveling!!!! Indeed internal builds are ahead of any beta, and I clung to this hope even in the final weeks of testing. I was let down of course with launch build. My morale was instantly shot.
Fun gameplay (post-ability delay fix), bad game world. I warned them on these forums about needing a seamless game design from the beginning when we knew nothing about the galaxy design. They did not heed the words! A few planets with massive designs would have been the best thing for this game, not dozens of places segregated by horrible, lengthy loading screens and cumbersome elevators and orbital stations.
This was a core design issue that from the very beginning set this title up for failure imo. It only helped sell copies of WoW as undecided gamers craved that large open feeling of adventure and exploration they want in an MMO.
