I just started playing a few days ago after taking a break from SWTOR for a couple of months and was wondering what tree I should use for leveling. I've been doing a lot of respeccing the past couple of days for flashpoints and can't remember the build I was using before the respec. It involved Dark Charge and chain shock, that much I know. I was wondering if there was an easier spec for leveling. I just hit level 30, btw.

Once you get on your ship you can fly directly to the fleet. Also the second taxi point has a thing to take you straight to the fleet.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean its not a "proper MMO." A game doesn't have to have all of the features of another to be successful. I played Rift during beta and after release, I don't play it anymore because its just like WoW. I love this game because it isn't a WoW clone. This game is all about the story. Yes, WoW has a lot of rich lore, but it gets lost in all of the repetitive quests, that only really get better once you hit 80 and start leveling in areas that phase a bit.
