  1. David Campbell, one of the Officers of 501st Legion has replied to my email. He says they are very interested in what we are doing here. He also plans to email EVERYONE within the California area, perhaps even sending an Officer of the 501st Legion as a representative to oversee what we are doing and report back to the others. Which means with their international pull, we might expand very quickly, and we might even get sponsorship for our events.
  2. We discussed Nerf guns before. yeah they might look similar, but there is no range or power behind it. You can have a fire-fight within 10 feet of each other, but we are thinking something more large-scale, like the Trailer Videos for SWTOR, or even reenacting scenes from the movies, comics, novels and videogames. Plus with wood you can get cheap pine wood or really dense expensive wood like Oak and create highly decorated, highly detailed, or basic slap-dash construction that still looks like a film Replica. The only difference is it shoots high tension rubber bands. Or in a close-quarters-battle we can load low-tension rubber bands so people wont get hurt up close.
  3. well for those of you that need it pointed out AGAIN. This is a WORK-IN-PROGRESS. Just like SWTOR is still a Work-in-progress. We are at the stage BEFORE Alpha-testing and Beta-testing. We are working on all the rules that will make us UNIQUE, and separate us from OTHER LARP groups. We are taking account of what everyone else is doing, or have done in the past, and we are changing things to suit the Starwars universe, or we are leaving the game mechanics as they are. Don't fix what isn't broke. As for why we are using Rubber-Band-Guns and how they are going to be regulated is very SIMPLE, even for ignorant children to understand. We will have NPCs, you know the faceless, nameless entity you meet once and they disappear, or you never encounter them again within a game. Well they are going to have a second job description other than relaying the mission/quest information and guiding them around. Their second job is going to be a Referee. If someone lets say whips out alight-Repeater blaster and starts firing at a Jedi, the NPC/Referee will take note if the Jedi is deflecting the blaster bolts (I.E. Rubber Bands) with his Lightsaber, or actually taking damage from the shots. As for the skill involved in making Rubber-Band Guns, there are designs you can buy on the internet kid. And guess what, if you bothered to take the time and actually CLICK on the links I provided, then you would see how simple and EASY it is to take hunks of wood, chop them up into puzzle-like pieces, glue them together and have a fully functional Minigun or Gatling gun. It does NOT require someone with Architecture skills in wood to replicate a Heavy blaster. All you need is to carve the shape, add a simple gear mechanism in the center for the trigger, and glue it together, its THAT simple. The only reason we are asking for people with Carpentry skills is so they can join us and put their skills to use, and feel a sense of accomplishment as well as seeing their work being enjoyed by others. As for "Packets", I do believe i mentioned we will be using them, if not here then when I personally wrote to some of my friends within the 501st Legion. But Packets are not going to be used the exact same way as they are in other LARPs. We are creating a system that uses Force Points/Vitality as a cost-based system. Every time you use a Packet, you are spending a Force Point/Vitality which will need to be healed or rewarded during downtime. Each ability of using the Force will have its own cost value, and players will have packets tied to a belt or their costume on a tear-away string, making it easier to keep track of and keep from losing in the heat of battle. Plus all packets will have the individual player's ID-Code or Initials written on them in permanent marker, and they will be color-ceded. As for having permission, or Licensing to do such an event, we haven't reached that point. We haven't even gotten to Alpha-Testing yet or Beta-Testing where we will don our costumes and go outside and reenact the game-mechanics. You know Outside, the place with the Sun in the Sky, with the fresh Air, with people, with children, with LIFE. oh no you've never been introduced to the outside world have you basement-dweller? Anyway, when the time comes when we will NEED permission from George Lucas, Lucas Arts, or ILM, we will be HAPPY to contact them and enlighten them on the wonderful community outreach program that we are running, we will send them pictures of all the happy children dressed up as soldiers, jedi, Ewoks, Jawas and whatever they like. We will even take pictures of HAPPY disabled people who we will welcome warmly into our group, and let them play the Role they have dreamed of playing in Starwars, whatever that dream might be. And yes, we ARE planning certain rules that apply to both children and disabled, and we welcome them whole-heartedly. And seeing as how much George Lucas loves to see groups like ours reaching out to the Community and accepting people of all colors, creeds, nations, and differences, I do believe he will be happy to sanction our activities, especially if Vader's Fist comes out and stands beside us in their full costumes, giving pointers and talking with all their admirers.
  4. O.M.F.G.W.T.F Are you serious??? There has NEVER EVER EVAR been a Starwars Larp group? you are joking right? *scrolls teh interwebs* O.M.F.G. there are NO Starwars LARP Groups W.T.F.!!! Well that is going to change, with the help of all of you my victims.... i mean Starwars The Old Republic Members. Teehee. That is right boys and girls, Since there is no Official or Active StarWars LARP groups in California, or heck even in the United States, I think we should be the FIRST, the original, the EPIC. WHAT ARE WE ABOUT? First and Foremost we are looking for MEMBERS. We are a small group of tabletop, videogame, board game gamers that meet up about every Sunday at Vin de Pays (Winestore/Bar/Tavern) and discuss many nerdy, geeky topics. That is when the topic of LARP (Live-Action Role-Play) came up. We all joked and laughed about it, at how silly we would be, but some of us are serious about it, and that is when we began to discuss the LACK of futuristic, science-fiction based LARPs, and commenting that there are SO MANY Fantasy/Medieval/Reenactment based LARPs in the world. This is how the topic of creating a Starwars LARP, something that would need to be UNIQUE, and original, since The Force is a different system than Magic, and that the Weapons are both Primitive and Advanced in technology, so we would need to establish a New Game System that reflects the change and the difference of the worlds. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR? First and Foremost we are looking for MEMBERS. Since we are such a small group, we need to expand, and the reason why we need more people to participate in our meetings, is because we need to Play-Test EVERY detail of the game mechanics so there are no flaws. And when we feel everything has been properly tested, then we can open the game up to the public. And hopefully with some donation collecting and maybe even some charity, we will have enough money in our bank to purchase all the materials we will need to create Weapons, Armor, Costumes, and various other supplies. Secondly we NEED people with skills, such as Carpentry (For making Rubber-Band-Guns that are iconic and look similar to Starwars weapons. Stage and Set Building to resemble scenes from the movies), Cosmetology (For Hair, Makeup, Bodypainting, and other requirements), Sewing/Seamstressing (For costumes, Robes, and various other clothing accessories), anyone with formal Martial Arts, Fencing, or Emphasis on Weapon Training. And finally, we need Sponsorship. Since i have worked with the 501st at VARIOUS conventions, I have come to know some of their members, and after speaking to them a short while I do believe they would be interested. I have also contacted some of my friends, bosses, and co-workers at said various conventions and asked if they would be interested in joining us. So if we are lucky enough, we might get some members from the 501st. But since they arejust a Charity Organization Support group, we will still need to find a Sponsor, because even working and running on a Shoe-String Budget, it can still get VERY expensive. BUT if we are successful enough, who knows, maybe George Lucas, or Lucas Arts, or maybe even Bioware might sponsor us and our venture. And one more point, we are looking for ANYONE with a background in Film, Special Effects, or whatever. Even if you are a student, self-educated, or if you are just some guy with a Video Camera and willing to work with us. Our plans are to film our events, and throw in some Post-Production effects, or even dub over our own voices, that way it will be an even more entertaining experience, which should attract even more players to join us and all our wacky adventures in this game called SWLARP. WHAT OUR PLANS ARE? Since Starwars is VERY different from other various Medieval Fantasy games, we must compensate for the changes, therefore we need to make a whole system in order to deal with the differences. but even though the system might have to be retro-fitted, some of the staples for safety regulations, and some of the iconic mechanics, such as using "Packets", Foam Weapons, although some things might be changed, such as instead of using VIals of Healing Potions, we shall use Small Medpacs, or Medical Kits, or even Kolto/Bacta Tanks for healing critical wounds from battle. And for major legal reasons instead of using Airsoft, or Paintball, or any other Semi-Illegal, or questionable weapons, we are going to be using Wooden Rubber-Band-Guns. This will make things somewhat safer, and people will be less prone to losing an eye or anything, especially since Helmets and Masks will be ENFORCED as a safety issue. Finally, due to the radical differences between Various other LARPs and what we plan to do. We are probably going to be the FIRST LARP to actually include a Leveling Up System into the Rules. How does this work you ask? Quite simple. Depending on the Species and Class you build, you may receive stats that come into play and give you bonuses on your Level Advancement, just like the Tabletop Game. We are also planning Rules for Cybernetics, Droids, and Darkside Users. So basically EVERYTHING you see within the Videogames, Board Games, Movies, Novels, and Comic Books will be scrutinized, evaluated, and possibly added to the system. Unlike other LARPs we are going to focus on making a SIMPLE game, where even CHILDREN will be able to understand the rule system and be able to play along. Because, lets me honest, who DOESN'T want to kick an Ewok, or blast a few Jawas in a Cantina? And one more last item, we actually have goals to visit locations that were used in the Films, Such as Sequioa National Park (A.K.A The Planet "Endor"), or Maybe even take a trip to Mojave Desert (California's Version of Tunisia, where they filmed "Tatooine"). And maybe during the Winter, we might even drive up to Big Bear (California's version of The Planet "Hoth"). Seeing as Starwars is such an Iconic image, we will be able to attract LOTS of attention and we might even be able to get LOTS more members and expand even more, possibly becoming an Internationally Recognized LARP. LINK DUMP If anyone wants to buy a Lightsaber made for combat, stage performance, or stunts, this is the best group i have ever found that makes unique and custom made lightsabers. http://www.ultrasaber... And this is the website for ALL your starwars questions. http://starwars.wikia... I'LL BUY IT FROM YOU And finally, if you have any questions, or you wish to join us, or find out when and where we are meeting, please send me a message directly, or please reply to this topic and i shall get back to you as quickly as possible
  5. OKay...... now the random load screen is keeping me from even playing. I logged in, and saw my toon and everything for 5 seconds, then BAM! Load screen. and it's still not clearing up. What the **** are you doing with our money Bioware?!!!!
  6. it happened to me just now, so i Alt-tabbed and closed the program because it was taking forever to come back, and all i did was take a taxi
  7. I just downloaded the swtor Authencator application last night after logging off last night, and this morning i took a look at it. Easy to use my ***! First of all, they ask for a 7 digit code. ......7 digit code from WHERE? What 7 digit code am I supposed to be using? Anyone got any ideas? Next if you DO enter a 7 digit code, it then asks for a 20 digit code. Once again, from WHERE? and a "Reactivation Psssword". Anyone else finding the LACK of information frustrating and confusing? If you have ANY answers, or know a good explaination on how to use the damned thing, please help me and all the others that are probably having the same troubles.
  8. I registered my Digital Deluxe Edition on July 30th, and have not received an email yet. It's 2 hours before midnight, which is technically "Tomorrow", and i believe 5 waves have been accepted. So hopefully when I wake up tomorrow, I'll have a nice email waiting for me. I look forward to seeing the rest of you in-game.
