  1. I think one of the biggest problems for both the writers and our MC moving into Onslaught is the amount of power we have amassed at this point, even with the consequences of the Traitor Arc. Our character has gone through countless trials, and has defeated the Emperor himself, along with his children. If the story can introduce struggles beyond the physical challenges they have thrown at us up until this point, then I think they can manage to create a genuinely compelling, maybe even complex conflict for the Commander. Also, and everyone already knows this, but companions are a large problem as well. It sounds like there will be a larger emphasis placed on relationships with our companions in Onslaught, but we shall see. I always have felt that this game has shined because of its story and the characters within, how they grapple with issues both internal and external. One of my favorite parts has been tackling the question of light vs dark, as it's a big theme in Star Wars, of course. I hope with the reintroduction of Republic vs Empire, the writers provide a new take on this action. So, not a rehash in the sense that it hits all the same beats in a very dull manner, rather we see thematic similarities, but new viewpoints, matured just like our characters have.
  2. I understand that implementation is near impossible at this point, but of course I would. I'm a solo player; I came for the story content, and I'm staying for it as well. The prospect of getting another, considerably longer thread added to the story sounds invigorating to me, especially since class stories are a more unique experience than the bottlenecked story line of KOTFE/ET.
  3. Like some have mentioned previously, I create my characters primarily based on RP. The first character I ever made was essentially an insert, female BT 1, but I actually don't like BT 1 much so I remade her (multiple times) as BT 2, and many of my other characters followed suit. I made one female BT 3, which I am quite fond of, but I only used it on this single character because of RP reasons as aforementioned. I tried a male BT 1, then switched to 2 going forward with any male characters I made. I have yet to try male BT 3, or either BT 4.
  4. Even though the time it claims to give you does not match the actual time you have due to the animation, it is enough time to fully heal up. No need to run. I have yet to meet any enemies in PVE that can see through the stealth field it gives you, even if they're stealth detecting mobs.
  5. I think all this talk about economics is derailing the thread just a tad, but someone made a good point earlier about how male players don't necessarily equate to male characters ingame. Perhaps it is catering to a minority, and maybe this thread is a testament to the theory that this minority is simply vocal. However, I wouldn't say adding a male Jedi companion is harmful to the majority. As long as the companion is well written, everyone wins. I think this group is a minority just because it's not talked about often, not because no one else wants this feature. So, is occasionally catering to a minority so terrible if it benefits everyone?
  6. I would argue that age differences are more of a severe issue the younger you are, and it's because of different levels of maturity, not simply an arbitrary western bias. For example, take two young adults; an 18 year old and a 21 year old. They're both legally adults, but one could be in high school still, while the other is gallivanting off who knows where (perhaps college). They're in very different places in their life, and because of this, the age difference is not only more stark, it could be more dangerous. I would not say many 18 year olds are incredibly mature, and I generally would not trust a 21 year old to not introduce them to unsavory things while in a relationship. However, it's probably better to handle these things case by case; not all people are at the same level of maturity. But I think concern over age differences for younger people is justifiable. However, this thread isn't really about that. It's about a grown, experienced, (possibly) mature adult in a relationship with another grown, experienced, mature adult. I said possibly, because if you're playing the Smuggler then that goes out the window Anyways, I'd like to see a Senya romance, too. It seems like it would be narratively a lot of fun; wooing Valkorian's ex while he screams at you in your head. Perfect romantic setting, imo.
  7. 1. F! Warrior - I have a soft spot for this class for a multitude of reasons, but the voice acting really does blow me away every time I replay it. I typically play a light sided Warrior, so the bloodthirsty dialogue kind of surprises me, but I think the female Warrior does an excellent job of sounding cold and calculating, but can also pull off compassionate. This isn't to say that she isn't good at being the typically scary Sith, too, rather that she has more depth to her than that. It helps add more dimensions to what could've been simply "angry Sith brute", and it always manages to send chills down my spine. 2. F! Agent - I've played through the Agent twice, both female and male, and both VAs do a really great job here, but I feel as though the female Agent sounds like she always knows something you don't. Plus, the fake Republic accent sounds better, in my opinion. Finally, I'm a sucker for F! Hawke. 3. F! Smuggler - I haven't played the male version, and I don't plan on doing so. However, I really enjoy the (over)confidence injected into the female Smuggler's tone. She really pulls off the jokes well, too. Still, the drawl threw me off a bit when I first played it. I was more distracted by Corso's, though. 4. F! Consular - I've watched videos featuring the male, and I understand why it's so widely disliked; it's pretty dull. And I can appreciate why people say the female's version is also dull, but personally I think it's more befitting of the class. Serene, but not always emotionless, just as how I like to play my Consular. It genuinely sounds nice and wise. Also, watching the "i'm going to read a book" scene with LI Felix on Youtube had me rolling harder than it should have... props if you know what I'm talking about. 5. Inquisitor - I can't pick a favorite between the male and female VA. Both are really good, and would overtake the Consular if I didn't have such a soft spot for it. The male sounds dangerous and calculating, a lot like the female Warrior, but a little more unhinged. The female version takes "unhinged" and just removes the whole damn door. Very fun, even though I don't play this class much. 6. F! Bounty Hunter - I haven't played this class in a long time, but I remember liking it a bit when I did. Nothing too special. The male version I haven't played before at all, and I'm not a huge fan. 7. M! Knight - So, I've only played the male version, but I've heard both. I think both are boring, honestly. Nothing about them stood out to me, except a DS Knight felt exceptionally sinister because of their calmer presentation of lines (compared to say a Sith). This wasn't enough to push the Knight up any rankings, though. Not bad, but not my cup of tea. 8. M! Trooper - The actual sound of the VA here wasn't grating to me, it was the delivery. It felt awkward to me, so the Trooper took a seat at the bottom of my list. I've heard good and bad things about the female version, but I don't have an opinion on it myself.
  8. I just go back and replay the class stories, because that's my favorite part of the game. Actually, it's the only part I really engage in.
  9. Maybe not necessarily a dark side character, but one who goes around killing without thought for the consequences. Lana is undeniably dark sided herself, but she doesn't tend to kill off potential allies, and she obviously does have friends she cares for (as you mentioned, Shan). As much as I love Lana, I kind of want to see her go off on one of my characters. I just want to see what that would be like, because she's usually so calm and collected.
  10. Do you think queues would go down if people had a larger incentive to play? Not that I'm endorsing it, because as others have mentioned there are a host of reasons to not essentially force players to play Starfighter.
  11. I don't see how they're mutually exclusive. There's no issue with them wondering about their Consular companions if they weren't discussed, as well.
  12. Two romances that are considerably less fleshed out than Lana, let alone any of the other vanilla romances. Not to mention all the other issues people have mentioned with romancing these two, the whole master-student relationship and such. So yes, while they are technically available F/F options, these options only become available post KOTFE/ET and are barely explored. The options for F/F are limited in number and quality. Lana surpasses both by far.
  13. I should've spoke after I finished the Chapter. It wouldn't let me abandon it, so I got worried. I completed the whole thing and everything went to normal. Still, it's odd that it changes your choices temporarily like that. It's even odder that it wouldn't let me "start" a romance when I replayed the chapter.
  14. So I replayed a few chapters of KoTFE, reading that they don't change your actual choices if you do. But the part underneath Lana's companion description, the box that notes important changes, used to note our engagement; now it's gone. When I replayed one of the chapters, I was not allowed to re-initiate a romance with her. I'm not sure if this is how it's supposed to be. I'm confused. Did I just lose my romance progression with Lana?
  15. When speaking to others who don't play SWTOR, I recite the full acronym: Star Wars the Old Republic. When they know what I'm talking about, or I'm mentioning it multiple times within a discussion, I'll abbreviate to The Old Republic. However, when I'm reading anything with "SWTOR" in it, I read it as each individual letter (S-W-T-O-R). Trying to say suh-tore or shivers SWOR TOR feels awkward to me.
  16. Maybe not exactly TOR period, but it's the only point of the EU that I know. I'm open to other suggested periods in the Star Wars universe, although I already told my friends they weren't going to be hanging out with Han Solo or any movie characters. How do you guys handle role playing ingame? Maybe I can incorporate some of those ideas into my campaign. Do you place a lot of emphasis on the universe around them, i.e. the specific battles and wars, or do you stay focused on the characters and their own internal conflicts? Do you have a general plot set up? I'd love to hear plot ideas, as well. Star Wars is (literally) a massive universe. I've never been a DM for any campaign before, and I only just started playing D&D this past winter. I realize I've thrown myself into the deep end with this, but I'm determined to run the best (and only) SW campaign my friends have ever experienced, and I need some help.
  17. Ideally, more class specific content and, as aforementioned, meaningful interactions with LIs and other companions. I don't expect class specific content to happen, though, as I know it's a bit difficult to create at this point. I also want to find out more about Lana's past; she's become so close to our characters, romanced or otherwise, and yet I only know about her past through an email I got from SPYING on her (and the rest of the Alliance). Also, lots of story content in general. I know I'm going to blow through it regardless (because when there's story content, I will binge for hours), but I hope it's longer than Ossus.
  18. Satele Shan, this has been happening to me for a few days now, as well. Abilities will take a few seconds to register, and sometimes when I'm moving I'll hit a sort of "invisible wall".
  19. I think the story is what has made this game stand out from other MMOs more than anything else. I've never been very well versed in the world of MMOs, so I don't know what a "good" MMO would look like, but I'm aware that because TOR has grappled for so long with its identity as an MMO, it fails to be the best. So to reiterate, it is its blend between story and gameplay that makes it so interesting, I believe.
  20. I've heard quite a few characters mention it throughout my sessions on here, including my own characters. It's obvious that the "Void" is an afterlife. Is it the same as the place where Force users go after they pass, aka becoming one with the Force? If so, why call it the Void, which implies a stark LACK of things. If I was becoming one with the Force, I think I'd feel fulfilled, not empty. What is it like? Anyone got any information on it?
  21. I have a feeling that if Dantooine does end up being small at first, it will be expanded in the future; there's no way they're going to let such a centralized planet go to waste.
  22. When I said PVP, I should've said MMO focused content, not just PVP. So basically the whole identity crisis TOR has gone through (and still is) and the perpetual argument as to whether or not TOR should lean towards story or more online content.
  23. I'm glad you feel that way. I was a little worried for a moment that you'd feel slighted for some reason. This is, of course, a much better reaction than I could have anticipated. And I agree that the class stories have the best writing in the game. They each explore some very unique themes within them, i.e. this thread's topic.
  24. Obviously the debate as to whether or not PVP is better than story content or vice versa is incredibly subjective, and has been a hot topic for a long time in this community as far as I know. So while it's interesting to constructively discuss the benefits and detriments to each side of the argument, it ultimately comes down to what YOU think. And of course, that doesn't necessarily reflect what Bioware or EA thinks, so it's pointless to try to present your opinions as if they are facts. Personally, I think TOR shines best during the class stories, as someone mentioned before me. They're each quite unique to each other, they demonstrate different aspects of the Star Wars universe, and building your place in said universe can be quite engaging; are you going to be a dark Jedi, light Sith, or grey Trooper? Why are they like that? Who are their friends and foes. You get the idea. The thing that makes this game stand out, in my opinion, is the story and the platform it is built on. Star wars is iconic. Being able to create your own character and live through the Star Wars universe, for me, is fantastic. Being able to create eight different types of characters... blew me away. That's what makes this game special for me. I haven't touched PVP or anything like that, because I'm sure there are MMOs out there that do it much better. But none of them can capture that childlike fascination one feels when they step out of their starship onto the bustling world of Coruscant or Dromund Kaas.
