In my opinion it sounds like something I'd enjoy playing.

Just a heads up I'd recommend not bringing anything like that to boot camp since you'll be unable to use it, and if caught using it you'll most likely be punished very badly by the drill sergeants/drill instructors.

Maybe hitting escape could work since it exits you out of the conversation, although I don't think it works for group conversations.
