  1. Just a quick question, how do you know this? What combat log/parse do you have to know that jacking up your offhand chance to land isn't worthwhile? Currently I sit at 100.18% accuracy, and I see my offhand miss constantly on specials. Anything that strikes with both weapons I get dodges, and misses on all the time.
  2. I dropped slash off my toolbars when i got Merciless Slash. 3 fights later it was re-added to my toolbars. For exactly the reasons mentioned here, eventually you start to get power returned by dots, and you are building power so fast that you can't dump it fast enough--MS has a 12s CD, so you should be using slash to reset that cauterize CD if you can while MS is down. Too much power, too little skills to dump it on.
  3. I'll bite. Instead of flaming, or name calling, I'll do this the proper way Could you list some abilities that you possibly think are bloat as you call it? I see you throw the Sentinel under the bus, but then don't provide any information on what abilities you think should be removed? Do you not find a use for Awe? For Transcendence? Perhaps Rebuke you aren't abusing? If you post what you think are nonsense abilities perhaps I could tell you why they are useful instead, or how they could be used situationally.
  4. I am very curious about what people pull as Sentinel's GENERALLY in warzone's... Can anyone that remembers, or has screenshots, post what you normally do in a warzone? I hear a lot about how ineffective Sentinels are in warzone's... That's the next myth im off to debunk. So if you could, please post your results from a warzone Thanks!
  5. For what it's worth, I solo leveled from 0-50. I defeated all bonuses, and almost every planet's additional quest lines. Not once have I EVER had a single problem defeating any enemies, or any bosses that required killing. I still think it has more to do with people understanding HOW MUCH utility they have. The previous poster confused me. Not enough utility? Er.. I can get out of any situation possible, and handle almost everything that comes my way with a little bit of thinking.. Rebukes, Saber Wards, Stasis, cc breaks, slowing moves.. I'm just not sure I entirely agree with not enough utility. I'm of the belief people need to fully explore a lot of the classes options before saying we have no utility. FWIW Awe also works in PVP. I consider an instant 8-man CC, like pretty op :/ but thats just me.
  6. A couple people have been asking for something like this, so I figured I would write what I know so far. Spec I utilize: Jedi Sentinel Watchmen Raid / Heroic Build Points of interest: 1. Inflammation seems to be a PVP talent. Initially I thought this might help unlocking the ability to use our bash/powerful strike when someone is slowed. Turns out you can't slow any bosses in heroic's (at least so far, so it's kind of wasted). 2. Reducing the time on pacify is essential. You will be on interrupt duty quite frequently. 3. Force Fade is great for semi-bugged encounters like the HK47 droid's stealth and garrote that he does. You can stealth and that will make you immune to his pokey that usually 1-shots people. Word's about a semi-rotation: You'll want to keep cauterize up as much as possible. This is the main point of the watchmen build. You want to overload saber, and keep those dots rolling constantly--as much to 100% uptime as possible for max damage. I start a fight by usually hitting the 30 stacks of centering buff, into a transcendence for heroic's. This gives the tank extra speed, and defense. Next, ill force leap to a non-champion/elite, usually a strong/whathaveyou, and then force sweep to stun any surrounding lowbies, then immediately followed by an AWE. This will give the tank enough time to pick up anything around him generally and get into position. Now, once you are focused on a target, I will overload saber if i have the power, and immediately issue a zealot strike to bring the power meter back up. At this point cauterize. Next you should be able to do a merciless slash (possibly already resetting your CD on cauterize). If you did NOT reset the CD on cauterize, your next priority should be slashing. Slashes also have a chance of resetting the CD on cauterize. You basically want to keep using zealot's strike when its off cd to get power, dump it on overload saber and cauterize, then next in line is resetting the cd on cauterize anyway you can. I stay in Juyo Form always for DPS, and I always use Juyo's zen proc. At least for now, stance-dancing leads to too much downtime for me. Mixing in thing's like force stasis is useful when you can actually use it. All bosses are immune to it, and most champion mobs as well. Here is a trick to fast-tracking heroic's or flashpoints if you are of the nefarious kind-- SWTOR does not put invisible walls or bounds around any pit or chasm in the game. This can be to your advantage. Force Stasis any mob you wish while next to a ledge. Then call for your awesome smuggler buddy/anyone to shove them. Later mob. (This plan was devised after understanding how to kill Darth Malgus btw). Figured we could retro-fit the strategy to regular mobs. Sure enough, You can lift and knock back any regular/strong mobs into pits of doom. Pretty damn funny. Stats / Gearing stuff: You want Strength above everything. It buffs all of your skills. Next, comes power. Power passively buffs your damage as well. Next, is semi-debateable. Right now I shoot for accuracy and surge. Since all sentinel burns can be FORCED to crit using juyo's zen, there's no reason to really STACK crit chance. But, because you can force crits there's a decent arguement for stacking surge. Will have to check meters, etc and see how the accuracy vs surge thing goes. Any comments/questions that are sincere i will try to respond to -Killahjedi [bad Motivator Units] Jedi Sentinel (Corellian Run)
  7. So a few weekend, new years impressions here to update this thread with I have a lot more experience with the sentinel since hitting level 50, and running a bunch of the 'heroics' they have in game, and even trying the raid out. I re-affirm my decision that the Sentinel is absolutely not broken. I seem to annihilate things now, and the scaling only seems to be getting better the better stuff i keep throwing on my Jedi. Couple of interesting things i noticed that could be addressed however, up for criticism are: 1. In harder dungeons/heroics interrupts start to become a problem. We use a ranged tank for some things, and with his interrupt on CD, and me constantly getting knocked back/carbonized, i can't be in there to interrupt either. 2. Stealth is absolutely invaluable. One of the best skills imo now. I frequently actually PULL aggro with the damage im doing, and just stealth it off. Also, the HK-47 heroic droid will kick your *** with a snipe, or aimed shot. (You HAVE to eat these, since they can't be interrupted) but a well timed stealth will avoid any hard hitting ability. 3. Master's strike needs a little work--Being stuck in the animation can absolutely kill you on fights like the dude in heroic emperor's vault that whirlwinds constantly--You can get stuck in the first part of masters strike before he finishes the animation and not be able to move--dead jedi. 4. Along the lines of Master's strike, our Force Stasis is quite bugged as well. I use it VERY frequently in heroic's to interrupt something gnarly, and it always lifts them, and the guy continues to do whatever move he was doing.... THEN he gets lifted. It's like again, you cant stop the animation of the first attack, and you get hit anyway (nullifying the reason to intterupt in the first place). 5. Heroic's desperately need to be fixed--There are so many instances of how to break heroic's that it's not evne funny. I'll mention the part where if you leave the false emperor on heroic, after getting in the elevator you crash everyones game that's always fun. 6. Repair costs need to be fixed. Learning a heroic shouldn't wind up costing me 100,000k+ credits now just because I push the purple mods and enhancements. :/ That being said, with me in the group, and a dope scoundrel, we managed to have enough DPS to bring down the bonus boss in Heroic False Emp. If you know anything about this boss you will know you need serious serious DPS to bring him down--I feel like this isn't tuned perfect yet, but being able to even do this right now feels pretty cool. All in all, I think sentinel has the tools required for any situation now. I found myself granting my party Transcendence which i never did leveling ever, to boost the tanks movement and defense for hard pulls--I found myself stealthing off tough shots that can't be interrupted--I found myself using AWE (Simply awesome spell, excuse the pun) CONSTANTLY. Awe helps reduce initial damage on the tank so much it's not even funny. Those front-loaded poisons, and shots in heroics can be deadly--use that AWE. All thing's considered I love my Sentinel. Hope some of this helps any sentinels out there, and gives you an idea of what to expect in heroics. Oh, I also found this FOR GREAT JUSTICE!
  8. Just another interesting thing regarding forms/stances-- Using Doc as my regular companion who I absolutely love, i don't really need the self-heal from Juyo form anymore. Last night I just tried Shii-Cho form just for kicks, and it seems oddly synergistic with watchmen. The reason is because the Zen proc from shii cho basically makes slash spammable for quite awhile (5 hits, plus focus ticks, so like 5-8 hits of slash in a row). Zen from Shi, combined with the talent that resets the cauterize counter on slash hit, is pretty insane. The rotation(if you call it that), turns into like overload saber -> cauterize, *Zen*, slash, slash, cauterize, slash, slash, cauterize, slash, cauterize, etc.. Again with no log not really sure how this measures up, but figured it's worth noting
  9. Actually I did. It was on page 6 summarized what to spec, but you actually have to read to find it, not just comb for purple things to clicky. Peter, Since i've leveled a bit more, and i re-read the changes to accuracy (at least the tooltip), since it no longer provides armor pen over 100%, I'm not sure pushing it to much past where im at of 97% is worth it.. I rarely seem to miss now just eyeballing the combat text. That being said, I run something like this now- http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#501rIbRbRMcGzZhM.1 Burn damage all day, and offhand damage from combat tree. When we get parsers, or a combat log im going to tear apart all the specs in a lot more detail, but this works fine for now :/
  10. Read the description for accuracy. Anything above 100% gives armor penetration, straight bypassing armor. People probably don't really think about this for pvp either. You are missing the 3/3 accuracy talent in combat. I refuse to not take this anymore. I will use that + gear, mods, and enhacements, whatever to push me above 100 accuracy at 50. Again, with no meters really, it's all theorycrafting. But if any other mmos taught us anything, the necessity to HIT the target trumps all :/
  11. Remember to keybind all of your stuff also. Here is a screenshot of me and my hotbars on the bottom there, every single thing i use is keybound, can look at mine as an example if you want but to each their own here :/ Killahjedi + Keybindings Screenshot
  12. Also, I still can't find a skill/talent calculator that mirrors the in-game talents. It seems like all of them i've been looking at are out of date. People that asked about spec- I went up watchmen to the talent that grants slash a 33% chance to reset the CD on cauterize. Then, I went up tier 2 in combat, to get 3/3 combat accuracy, and stopped there. So basically everything in watchmen, minus the top tiers (I plan on respeccing later to see if the burn damage % increase at top tier in watchmen outdoes the accuracy buff and offhand damage, i somehow doubt it will).
  13. Hey, I just wanted to add something to this pvp discussion real quick.. Lealz, Did you realize (I'm not trying to instigate anything here) that the watchmen tree seems to be more for pvp? You get a 100% damage resistance talent for a few seconds, you also add the ability to have cauterize slow the enemy which seems invaluable in tandem with leg strike. 2 slows, 2-3 interrupts, (Statis/kick/vanish). I also utilize vanish/sneak/whatever it is to also dodge a strong attack. This works in pvp or pve, if i see someone casting something nasty, and I dont have an interrupt up, i will basically vanish it off (Stealth, and they need to retarget/recast) seems to confuse people. I just also want to add an addendum to my original post i realized I should've written this up front-- I absolutely DO NOT ENGAGE IN PVP. This thread was not meant for discussion about sentinel in PVP, this is basically leveling information, and PVE guidance only. PVP is a whole nother' can of worms that I can't really comment on right now.
  14. I just wanted to add stats, and gearing which i think people might have a problem with also. 1. Stack Strength always. It buffs all of your skills. Use STR whenever you can. 2. After Strength, comes power. This buffs your base damage with both hands. 3. After Strength, it's a little up in the air currently, but I have strong reason to believe that accuracy is the key here. I have geared up to 40 like so- Might Armoring for all armor slots. Might Mods for all mods. Rage Enhancements to 35. Post 35, Rage enhancement changes into Initiative Enhancement I think it is, the one with End/Power/Accuracy. Might Hilts like always.
  15. For all the hatred that I see about the sentinel class, and about how they are broken, I figured I would try to make an informative post here. First, this is my own experience with live TOR, and this is my opinion. Sentinel is not a broken class. It's how you are playing it. Let me start by telling you what a real sentinel can do- 1. You can kill any target, regular, strong, elite, or champion by yourself. (Companions are required for champions but that's about it). 2. You can freely use any companion you want for whatever circumstance you want. (I am currently sitting around level 41, never slowed down yet). 3. You can tear through quests nonstop with very little downtime. Now you may be saying, but killahjedi, how do i play my class then? Well, this is where you learn something- Onset of combat- You will buff yourself with Sprint, Juyo form (We paid attention to #3 right?), and Force Might. Now, this isn't warcraft, so you actually need to think for ONE second before pressing that Force Leap ability what it is you are fighting. If this is an elite or higher, you will ABSOLUTELY need your Saber Ward up, and possibly Call on the Force to reset the counter if its a long-drawn out fight. In combat- With the Watchmen spec, you need to burn the **** out of your target. You do this by stacking cauterize. Cauterize does a truck load of damage, and you can keep applying it. Elemental/Burn damage is the whole trick to taking down champions/elites that have a ton of life. You apply dots, refresh them, and watch the damage keep pouring off of them. How i approach regular mobs/packs- 1. Overload Saber immediately before fight if i have power. 2. Force leap into the middle of a pack, then force sweep + stun the lower/lesser mobs. At this point, a main trick to this, is deciding whether or not you are taking massive damage instantly, if you are, generally it's the smaller guys around you, take them down instantly, leaving the "strong" in the group up until the end. Generally you can interrupt the strong, or force stasis/choke his *** to stun also. You can pretty much do whatever here to regular mobs, I prefer to single-target them down. It seems the sentinel AOE ability seems a little weak.. even at 41 im hitting for like 500 damage on it?? Seems terrible. Approaching elites/champions: 1. Saber Ward 2. Force leap -> pt builder 3. Cauterize. (This will be buffed by your talent choices. You can reset the CD on this, plus it's initial burst damage). This gets the dot rolling on the hard guy. 4. Force Statis/Choke -> let that damage from cauterize do it's thing while he can't move. 5. You should have enough pts left to slash a few times. If you are really lucky, you can slash once, reset the CD on cauterize, and re-apply it again. Keeping this dot ALWAYS rolling is key. 6. About by now your saber ward might be falling, you can use your other defensive CD to negate damage(again forget the name), or call on the force, and re-use saber ward again. 7. He will most likely be casting some nasty **** this entire time--Beit force lighting, circle of death, FULL AUTO if its a gunner, all of these skills can/ and should be kicked. YOU NEED TO INTERRUPT. The entire key to taking down harder mobs for sentinels is all about control. You apply your dot, slash a few times to get some burn damage up there, then stop him from attacking-Through choke/statis, force sweep, blade storm, or kick, all of these things get you out of trouble. By about level 40, all of these things start flowing naturally, and elites just aren't a challenge at all. I can solo them without companions JUST using the self-heal from Juyo form, with all defensive CD's. If anyone wants any more advice i'd be glad to provide it, im surer this post is all over the place -Killahjedi Jedi Sentinel [bad Motivator Units] - Correlian Run
