  1. But will i miss anything or have any real problems if i get the 12x exp and then still do the side quests when they are grey difficulty (just for the stories and gear )? I'm considering it just because i've gotten a jedi sage and jedi sentinel past coruscant now but want to try out a guardian and smuggler (among others) and kinda dont want to go through tython and especially coruscant a 3rd/4th/etc. time lol. I almost wish i could turn the 12x exp on and off so i could get past the planets i'm tired of and then start into the ones i haven't done much on. Guess i need to rein in my alt-frenzy a bit
  2. This is something i'm thinking of doing, but was curious if anyone else was and had some input But is anyone else still doing all the planetary side quests even with the 12x exp? I'm fairly new to the game. Just a couple alts in their 20's now (and several in the starter worlds or low teens). I've held off on preordering so far because i WANT to experience the storyline and planetary side quests. I don't want to skip them, at least for my first time or two around. But now, as i play through trying so many alts... i'm getting tired of the starter worlds (tython and coruscant in particular) and am seriously considering getting the preorder bonus so i can blow through them and get to the higher ones as i level multiple alts. But... i don't want to gun straight to 55. I want to explore and play the entirety of the leveling process. So anyone else doing this? Even if the planetary quests go grey? Doing them anyway for at least the gear (to help you keep up) but having the massive power boost that comes with being way over leveled for the quests? Just curious before i bit the bullet and did it. And was curious if i'd be missing out on anything (i figure credit rewards go down as well as you get way higher level ) or if I was in the clear to just basically power level and slam through the story quests just for the fun of it ty all
  3. Ty everyone! I think i'll hold off for now. I was leaning that way anyway but this helped I'll be getting the expansion eventually. Its basically a forgone conclusion. But for now i'm gonna enjoy the storylines of the planets and work at least one alt from each side up cheers everyone
  4. that is the question I'm kinda torn right now honestly. I'm a complete ToR newbie. Just started a couple weeks ago (though played WoW for 10 years and many other MMOs off and on). I'm LOVING this game right now. Full on n00b moments and that honeymoon period where everything is shiny, new and awesome. I fully understand that that feeling doesn't last and i should enjoy it... so i am... lol. Anyway, my highest level character is only 17 so far but i've got half a dozen alts in the 5-15 range (trying out so many classes lol). I am going through and clearing every side quest on every planet i get to, simply because i'm enjoying the story. That said... i understand that 90% of any MMO is endgame. I also realize that the 12x exp is a very limited time offer. So i'm torn. I want to level up and do all the side quests, clear out achievements, go hunting datacrons and just live it up as much as i can. But i also realize that WoW will likely drag me back in when warlord's releases and i'll get more "attached" to a game if i have a few max level characters i can swing in on and play around on the endgame (and new expansion stuff). Keeping both subs active is no real problem (i make enough money to not worry about an extra 15 a month) but it comes down to time. Though dabbling on one while playing another isn't to big a deal. So... what do you guys think? If you were in full-on newb mode again, would YOU ramp up the exp to get some alts leveled? Or would you wait until you got at least 1-2 chars up there naturally so you could experience the leveling game? Just curious what some thoughts on the subject would be ty all
  5. wow! come back to check the post and we're up to 2 pages lmao. Ty everyone! and seeing a lot of varying opinions too. Thats good! Means that all the heal classes are viable (its usually fairly obvious if theres an outlier) and it comes down to playstyle (and ty to those that gave WoW comparisons, that helps ). I'm so torn right now lol. I started both a jedi councilor and a bounty hunter and have been slowly working them both up (still around 5-6 on each). I love the attitude and general "feel" of the bounty hunter (storyline, attitude, actually being able to dark side some decisions and not feel bad ), but i just have a hard time doing star wars without a lightsaber lol. Not to mention that i'm seeing force as a more traditional mana bar (as was noted in this thread). I've also seen it mentioned that sage plays something like a disc priest... and i love my wow disc priest lol. So yea... i'm KINDA leaning towards sage right now but i'm also liking my bounty hunter/merc. Meh, might just level em both lol. ty all
  6. Ty everyone. Think i'm gonna try a bounty hunter merc healer Honestly didn't think i'd be doing an empire alt this early... i always go jedi in my kotor games first and sith second That said... i'm already half RP'ing this in my head... I'm going to be a bounty hunter, but also a healer. I've had a few choices on my jedi that i went light side on even if it made me groan (sometimes i'm so sweet and goody goody i get a cavity ). But my jedi is going for full light side mastery (or whatever) so that works. This guy? Pragmatic. Honorable. Lethal. I get paid. I do the job. I don't like what my principles tell me (i don't like slavers for instance) i start killing. Someone hires me to do something, i'm GOING to get paid. But in general i'll be a nice guy. Just a snarky, practical nice guy Ty guys. You got me wanting to try a whole new side
  7. Hey all. Just got an opinion question for those that have been around the game a little longer than myself But what healer class would you guys consider to be the most "newbie friendly". And as an aside, which healer class solo's the easiest? Basically, i'm a ToR newb but an MMO vet. I've put 10 years (of varying intensity in play time) into WoW with forays into most of the big name MMOs. Rift, Aion, GW1 and 2, DDO, LotRO, Wildstar... you get the idea. But i'm still fairly new at ToR. Only been playing a couple weeks (tried it on a lark and subbed pretty quick because its awesome ) and am loving the game. I haven't preordered the expansion yet simply because i WANT to quest through the newbie worlds and have to do all the side quests etc. Anyway, i currently have a level 17 jedi sentinel. I'll be the first to go on the record in saying that DW lightsabers is absolutely sweet. I'm enjoying myself quite a bit and am looking forward to leveling this guy up... on the side... My main problem? In every other MMO i play i either tank or heal. I suck at dps. I know this, my guild knows this, my friends know this lol. I typically tank once i get comfortable with the dungeons, raids, world bosses etc. in a game, but in the phase when i'm still "learning" the areas, i usually go healer. So here i am. I don't really want to keep leveling a dps class (cool as it may be) as my first character to 55 (or 60). I also don't really want to tank yet, right out of the box. But i DO want to be more of a support role for flashpoints, group quests, tacticals, etc. as i level. TL;DR: relative ToR newbie wants to level a healing class. Preferably one that can solo at a speed that isn't painful (can and will be slower than dps classes, i understand that). Looking for a newbie friendly one for leveling up. Ty everyone
  8. Ty for all the /waves and links everyone Figured i'd post a reply here because i'm starting to get into the "meat" of the game i think... Got to 11 and got off my homeworld. Chose a advanced class (jedi sentinal... yes, DW lightsabers is epic, yes, i realize probably 95% of the population figured the same thing. Still looks awesome ) and started wandering around. This game is... BIG... Now, i've been playing MMOs for a long time now, but i'm honestly feeling a little overwhelmed. But in a good way lol. Suddenly got bombarded with codex entries and tutorials. Tried out the space battle tutorial (OMG!) and heard about flashpoints and warfronts. I've just started questing around on Coruscant and i'm enjoying the story. The tutorials already warned me about saving for a speeder at level 15 (i'm 11, almost 12 now). I picked up some professions (treasure hunter and archeologist along with artificer). Hell, i kinda want to go back to the home world and pick up missed achievements and datacrons just because i can lol. Why did i wait so long to pick this up again?
  9. =D yea, i heard some stuff about the rollercoaster ride from when the game first came out. These days though... Honestly? i play several games usually. WoW is my main one but i always have 1 or 2 games on the back burner that i dabble on (and usually MMOs, go figure ). I've played tons of em... WoW, Rift, GW1 and 2, Aion, DDO, LotRO, Wildstar, etc. but for some reason never tried ToR. Nowdays Wildstar is depressing me and i got to looking around and, honestly? It seems like every place i can look, FF14 and ToR are the two MMO's (outside of the behemoth that is WoW of course) that are not just hanging on, but gearing up. I dabbled for a few months on my ff14 account... now its time to give bioware some more of my money
  10. Just thought i'd drop by general and say hi to my fellow players Seems to be an interesting time to be a ToR newbie lol. For some reason never picked up this game until this point but was looking to try something new (ToR newbie but MMO vet... 10 years of WoW and i need a new side game ) and figured it wouldn't hurt to give it a try Haven't preordered the expansion yet. I want to experience the "newbie" content before i dive into shadows of revan (and that title alone just makes me all kinds of happy... i loved Kotor 1 and 2). I did, however, sub for at least a month, just to unlock all those perks But i'm also usually a forum rat for whatever game i'm generally playing so... might as well introduce myself The handle is Skyfire. My friends call me Sky. Looking like its going to be some fun times. /wave to everyone
