  1. I support the idea of making it easy for players to transfer to their preferred server, with more guidelines as to which type of server would suit them.

Please don't merge - I moved to a "dead" server deliberately, and I like it over here. It's quiet.

I guess it would make it easy to do all the solo-content without interference.

  2. The WB scenario predates level sync. It's been an issue for as long as I've been around and could solo them, up to Quesh, anyway. Giving players the option to do w/out it won't benefit anyone, except those that want to do wi/out it. Anyone trying to help guild mates, or new(er) players with the WBs in their current form are just hosed. Sorry that killing Trapjaw may actually make one have to think about it a little, but, reading through the thread, one would think that was a good thing, that there is some challenging content, considering how "brain dead easy" the game's become. Except that it's more of a case of "I want the game harder, but only in situations where I think it should be harder", which most times translates into "It should be harder for everyone else".

Level sync fills that role exceptionally well, right down to making it a case of "I may have to actually play my class as it was built to be played in group content, since if I don't, things may well go sideways and wipe the group". Considering all the "noobs that can't play their classes" arguments for GF, I'd think this would also be a good thing. Apparently this isn't the case, they don't want those "noobs", but they don't want to help prevent them by actually having to "put on a clinic" for how a class should be played in group content, they want to face roll it for the rewards and be done. That's all good, I know I've done it more than a few times when it was a viable play style, but the game's moved on, and the best way to "mentor" these players now is to play in level sync, and put on a clinic for how these classes were meant to be played in group content, instead of assembling 4 solo stars for a FP, or 8/16 for an Op.

A good game will teach you some basics on how to play your class though. SWTOR levelling is so easy though you never know how good you are until level cap and you're doing tough content.

The end of chapter bosses should be MUCH stronger and force you to be operating at 75% or so of your classes DPS limit , this should mean you understand the basic rotations. Add in the burn phase on the chapter 2 boss and 'avoid the stupid' checks on the chapter 3 boss.

  3. Yep, you ask a small part of it, and you try to get as broad a perspective as you can, which is impossible to do on a game forum. There are entire demographics of players that aren't represented here at all. How do you get their input on a poll? There are players that may indeed be unhappy with the game's current direction, but they refuse to hit the game forums, because they don't want to be subjected to the environment, the same with players that are absolutely happy with it, for whatever reason, but don't want to be subjected to the "normal" environment of a game forum. Expressing an opinion contrary to an agenda can, will and likely has opened a poster to ridicule from people with an agenda to push. I was recently added to a poster's ignore list because instead of whimpering in a corner when he called me a carebear, I pointed out the error in his ways. He couldn't respond to it, so it was "I'm going to ignore you".

So no, a game's population isn't represented on the forums. You have the disenfranchised and the white knights as the primary posters, with some mixed "other" peppered in for good measure, but it's hardly representative of the actual game.

Exactly, forums even if they were 15% of the game's population are still not representative. It's not just the size of the sample that matters but how well it reflects the overall population. Forumers, in any game, will always people who are a bit more passionate/obsessed/annoyed.

Those who log in for a few hours a week will never come to the forum because they aren't that interested. Despite their lack of interest BW/EA still want their subscription money so they have to care about them.

  4. Because SWtOR has kept adding story expansions this whole time, I don't see why you're surprised that solo players would want to continue on the same way instead of having the focus of the game shift to something they don't like.

Also when you finish single player story based games they release DLC and sequels so...

It's not long term content then is it? It's just new content.

  5. I have over 25 characters. Even at 10x it would be a terrible experience. CXP needs to be legacy wide like the Legacy system was designed to be so that no mater what character you play you feel like you're making progress. Currencies should also be legacy wide. I would play 10x as much if I could easily hop between characters.

With 25 characters you're an outlier and shouldn't necessarily be catered to specifically.

"Grinding" CXP is not the reason to be playing SWTOR and if it is then you're miserable. You're not meant to be 300 in 5 days, it's supposed to take a long time.

CXP is a "companion" that travels with you as you play SWTOR and gives you stuffs along the way.

If people would stop thinking of CXP as the only reason to play SWTOR then they'll probably be much happier.

TL;DR - Just play the game normally and gain CXP as you go.

What's the definition of 'normally'? What if you just want to do end-game raiding which requires the best gear?

That's a fairly 'normal' type of gameplay for an MMO.

  7. You ruin the fun for all who enjoy warzones, as I do. Because it is not nice to see people in your team wasting around when we are trying to actually win the match.

If you don't like warzones, grind cxp but doing flashpoint or whatever else and get your gear from crates.

Relax mate, I've never done that - it was just a joke.

  8. Why would EA and Bioware take a risk on rebooting SWTOR? Their first attempt would have netted them a loss, if not in real terms then definitely in opportunity costs. It definitely dented their share price at the time. At this point they're keeping it on life-support in order to eek out any margin that is left. Then they'll bury it and probably never talk of it again.

I know we think 'yeah just reboot it!', but it represents significant risk to a company which tends not to take risk. Hence 'FIFA 17', 'Battlefield 1', 'Battlefront 2' etc - they're low risk and high profit titles. Building a new MMO requires significant investment in infrastructure, developers, analysts, marketing, designers etc. It's a massive lift, especially for something Star Wars related which will have to be big from day 1 to accommodate the initial demand.

I find people on here to be naive to the ways of both business and game development. Seriously it's not as easy or simple as people want to assume.

  9. People's expectations don't match the reality that is modern gaming development. Your 'bug' may take 2 man days to find the source of the problem, fix it, test it and deploy it. At a cost of around $100-150 an hour that is $1600-2400.

I guarantee as somebody working in development that's not an unreasonable amount of time required as often finding the source of the problem is the most time consuming part. Then fixing it without causing other unintended consequences is another difficult piece of work.

That's at least 106 subscription months, will they gain or at least prevent the loss of 106 subscription months by fixing a minor bug? Nope. So should they fix it? Nope.

  10. Lets pretend a hypothetical situation completely NOT In touch with reality. I am the Pres of EA and say, I dont care how much it costs, lets upgrade the SWTOR engine and get it 64 bit AND DX 12!

So, who here really knows what that entails? How much money? 100 million? 250 million?

My assumption is its easier to simply create a new engine and PORT everyone over to the new game rather than rewrite the entire engine from the ground up.

Even if they did rewrite the entire game engine the servers would have to be offline for many hours simply to rewrite every line of code and the likelihood of poorly written code and errors is very high.

You have no idea of how development is done do you?
