  1. I'd love to see other people's picks, even if you just want to answer for some of the categories. Class Story: Jedi Knight Character Story: Jaesa Williams I really like how you get different outcomes depending on if you go dark side or light side. I also think they handle her inner conflict well. Character Voice Acting: Female Sith Warrior That condescending British accent, and great delivery. Companion Voice Acting: Jaesa Willsaam I can't really describe why I like it so much, there's something soft and earnest about the tone and delivery that I just really like. Character Dialog: Dark Side Sith Warrior I'm not really sure about this, I haven't done nearly all the combinations of light side / dark side / mixed for each of the classes. I'm interested what other people that have tried more combinations think. Companion Dialog: Vette 'nuff said. Character Visuals: Female Togruta This is another one where I've only actually used a small fraction of the gender/race combinations, so it's easily possible that I'd prefer something else if I had used more of them. Companion Visuals: Nadia Grell (No customization) Tough call for me, Nadia doesn't really stand head and shoulders above several of the others. I'd probably make a different choice on a different day.
  2. What a cluster. To add insult to injury, there is apparently a one MONTH wait to rename a character after you rename it once. Because, you know, costing $10 isn't enough.
  3. Okay, now I'm really confused. I just tried another variation, and it told me that it was already taken. Yet, it won't let me change my name to any of the other variations I've tried. Using my example above, it's like it won't let me take Ragè because it's already taken, but won't let me take Ràge but gives no reason why.
  4. Rename existing character. Typing in alt codes. The foreign character appears in the box just fine, it asks me to confirm I want to rename, I say OK, but then it just silently fails-- no message, it just doesn't rename the character. I don't want to waste 1,000 Cartel Coins by trying a name that's so outrageous I wouldn't want to keep it, and as far as I know, there's no way to tell if a name is already taken without actually claiming the name for yourself, so without any error message, I can't be sure what's going on. It is possible that all the variations I've tried are failing because they're already taken, but I really doubt it-- it's not popular name to begin with, and I've tried a lot of different letter substitutions. Could it be failing for some other reason? Let's pretend I was trying to name my character 'Rage' (just an example, the name I want is more obscure). Is there any reason that would be rejected other than it already being taken? Same with Ragè? And Ràgè?
  5. I have been trying to rename my toon, and have been trying to use foreign characters like È, É, etc. I see toons with these characters in their name all the time. However, when I try it, it silently fails-- I get no message telling me why. I have tried enough variations with enough foreign characters that I'm relatively confident the issue isn't that I'm trying names that are already in use, but without any error message, I can't tell for sure. Can anyone confirm whether these characters are still legal?
  6. The original three trailers can be downloaded from the swtor.com website. The two most recent ones are only hosted on youtube (as far as I can tell), and they are not flagged as downloadable there. Is there any way to download these trailers?
  7. I am genuinely confused. If you don't do OPS and only PvP casually, why does any of this matter? What content is it that you are planning on doing that requires anywhere near the highest tiers of equipment/mods? I stopped running OPS with my guild a long time ago and just casually do solo content and heroics, have made no effort to gear up my character, and still can't find any content that is even mildly challenging. Am I missing something?
  8. One aspect of this that I haven't seen mentioned in the thread is that SWTOR differs from most F2P MMOs in one hugely important respect: they are not trying to make money from whales. Most F2P MMOs are willing to let literally 90% of their customers play for free or for a small amount, because of the 10% (or even less) that are paying enormous amounts of money. A single whale will spend thousands of dollars per year, sometimes tens of thousands. I saw this in Blade & Soul. The few people in my guild that had the best end-game gear had all spent thousands on the game, though some of them were too embarrassed to admit it (it wasn't hard to figure out if you were on all the time and just paid attention to when/how they acquired stuff). I myself got sucked into spending more money than I ever would have believed possible, before deciding that I needed to quit playing. (Fortunately I could afford it, but it left a really bad taste in my mouth.) Bioware has completely stayed away from this, which IMHO is the ethical business decision. But it does mean that they can't afford to have anywhere close to the same ration of free:subscribers as many other games you might be tempted to compare it to. I suspect that the Galactic Command change is going to be a poor business decision. I'm guessing that a lot of players will leave, and that has a big, immediate negative impact on the subscribers (in fact, that's the main reason you have a F2P model in the first place-- sure, you hope they some day subscribe, but mainly you're just making sure there are friends and strangers online for the subscribers to play with). I think it might be worthwhile to suggest that Bioware increase the credit cap for preferred to something like 750k, making it much more reasonable to buy materials to craft end game gear. Along with that, up the escrow unlock for something like 3 million, instead of 650k, making it possible to buy mods directly. (Those numbers are pulled out of nowhere, they're just examples.) This would give preferred players a real incentive to run end game content, because they can sell the mounts, decorations, rare materials, etc., and buy end game gear with it. In theory, this would allow them to get everything except for set bonuses-- which would allow them to run all end game content, except super competitive PvP and the very latest NM ops. That still wouldn't satisfy all preferred players, but it would certainly satisfy a heck of a lot more than without the increases.
  9. Found this post after having just paid for the /flourish emote for my sentinel. This should be fixed. It should be apparent to BW that most of their revenue is coming from cosmetic/decorative items, and emotes are firmly in that category. I was going to show it to my wife-- and I only talk to her about gaming like twice a year-- because with the graphic settings turned way up, it looks really cool-- up until it breaks and both sabers go flying through my body and leave me in a state where I can't even sheathe them using 'z' until I take some other action, like jumping or moving. I'm not irritated about the credits-- it was equivalent to a couple hours on Yavin 4-- I'm irritated that this was something I would have genuinely enjoyed playing with, and it's close to being fun, but it's not.
  10. So I have the appearance of my character and companion the way I want them, and I'm very pleased with how they look-- when light is shining directly on them. Unfortunately, that's not very often. For example, on Yavin, if my toon is facing the sun, he looks great; if he's facing away, you can't even tell what colors he's wearing, it's just basically black. First question: is there a way to universally brighten things up or increase the intensity of the ambient light? I've played with every graphics setting I can think of, with no luck. (If it matters, I'm in 2560x1600 and I've experimented with all settings set to high). Second question: I assumed that by installing lights in my Stronghold, they would actually, you know, provide light. But they don't appear to do anything: the room isn't any brighter, the shadows haven't changed, etc. Is there a way to add light to your stronghold? Thanks in advance.
  11. I was away from the game for over a year, and came back for Shadows. I had hardly any Basic Commendations stored. I got the free 300 from whatever quest chain that was, plus some I picked up along the way, but I also goofed and completely geared my companion with level 55 stuff because I didn't realize they could be used for level 60 stuff. Consequently, I need 600-ish Basic Comms to purchase my level 60 gear. As my guild is trying to start the level 60 ops this coming week, I'd like to get as many as I can between now and then to be at least partially geared. Suggestions for getting Basic Comms solo? I did Black Hole and also Section X (can't do the heroic without 4, but it wasn't hard to find a few folks for a 10 minute run). Since I can't get the weekly bonus on those again this week, I'm not really sure what else is out there. Like, can I run low-level Flashpoints solo, and if so, is there a reasonable pay off? Are there other weeklies besides Black Hole and Section X that can be finished solo or almost solo that give the 30 comms? Other methods that I haven't even heard of since I've been gone for so long? TL;DR: Would love advice for getting Basic Comms, preferably solo or mostly solo.
  12. Thanks for the replies everyone. I figured there was something I was missing, which is why I asked. Between not doing PvP and having been away from the game for 6+ months, I overlooked some obvious scenarios. Thanks again.
  13. The new Cauterize has no CD. It applies its damage over 12 seconds. In what circumstance would you want to re-apply cauterize before the 12 seconds of DOT are up? If the answer is "never" or "almost never", why isn't it on a 12 second CD?
  14. I played a lot from day of launch until about 18 months ago (on a different server). 6 months ago or thereabouts I re-rolled on Bastion and solo leveled my Sentinel to 55, and then haven't played with him much since. With the 12x XP bonus, I'll probably level a Guardian to 55 by the xpac launch, but I've got 10 years of MMORPG experience as strictly DPS, so I'm not sure if I'll be interested in and/or competent at tanking. I'm polite and enjoy being helpful. I always pull my weight, but I'd rather find a play style that is fun for me than squeeze out that last 5% of DPS through optimal play. I've been told I can be pretty funny, though that doesn't seem to be coming through with this quasi-personals ad. I can commit to a regular raid schedule. I'm on PST, and could do anything after 7pm PST on weeknights and pretty much anytime on weekends. I'm looking for a casual guild that does operations. Ideally, I'd like to find a guild of adults who like to laugh and explore but take the game seriously enough to successfully run operations before they're completely trivialized. In a perfect world it would be a Republic guild so I don't need to level from scratch. I've wanted to be a Jedi since I was 9 years old and my dad took me to see Star Wars in 1977, and as long as I can swing my glowing, humming lightsabers at someone, I'm pretty easy to please.
