  1. Hi folks,

As mentioned above, our team is currently looking into it. In the meantime, here are a few potential workarounds which helped other players resolve the issue.

    • Launch the game as an admin: Right Click > Run as administrator
    • Perform a bitraider repair: Click on the cogwheel on the Launcher > Click the Repair button on the Settings screen.
    • Use the repair tool: SW:TOR launcher troubleshooting guide
    • Change the compatibility mode: Desktop Icon > Properties > Compatibility > Run in Compatibility mode: Change from Windows 10 to XP SP 3

Please keep giving us your feedback.

Thank you for your patience while we get this issue resolved.

    • Perform a bitraider repair ... this option is grayed out == disabled
    • Use the repair tool ... changes nothing
    • Change the compatibility mode ... will try that as a workaround

  2. I just searched for Unranked versus Ranged PvP in SWToR and found this thread.

My commendations. One of the best balanced posts I have read in quite some time of gaming. No finger-pointing! No "this better than that"! Rather a good analysis of good versus bad with both modes. My best compliments to ChillingFear.

Usually people are biased. I am too, I guess, even though I try hard to stay accurate. And accusations are thrown all directions but I stay true to my decades year old mantra: If You Cannot Come With Constructive Criticism You Should Not Criticize At All!!!

    But why?

Because any moron can criticize ... or rather what they do is to whine and to rant.

But it takes a brain to provide constructive criticism. Such criticism requires you to think things through thoroughly to be able to provide the constructive ideas or solutions. Any "criticism" without fresh ideas or solutions is nothing but yet more rants and should be disregarded. (Here I of course exclude regular bug reports. They do not require solutions but instead they require detailed reports on when/where/what/how and a reproducer, if possible.)

    Great post, ChillingFear.

  3. As it has been for the last years, game updates have always occurred during Europe prime time playing time which equals lunch to early morning US time zones (east to west). This is unacceptable from a consumer perspective.

You guys know very well how many players you have in time zones of let us say 6 hours width. Why not rotate between those to make the pain factor equal to all customers. If east US has 33% players they should not face more than 67% of all updates. If Europe has 15% players we should face 85% of all updates. Etc.

As it is know, Europe faces 100% of all updates and many of them go bad, as of today 2018-12-11, when all or most of out evening is broken. I assume your most players play from about 5 or 6 PM even though there are exceptions. But hopefully those are evenly distributed across the time zones.

Then we have Asia, Australia, Hawaii, etc. And I guess Hawaii is almost never hurt by the current scheme, at least not during prime time.

Looking forward to better equality between time zones and respect for your paying customer base

  4. Two separate status updates:

    • Rollback - Looking fully successful. We were able to move everyone back to end of maintenance status, everyone will be able to proceed forward as intended!
    • Fixing the bug - Everything about the fix we applied worked, except, that for some reason HK-55 is being taken away still. We are going to continue working on the fix so that there is no impact to player's companions.
      • One other note is when you do the "skip to Ossus" option, you are going to see a bunch of notes in your chat, such as companions being granted. In a lot of cases this information is NOT actually happening, it is displaying incorrectly. You will be able to verify this in your contacts list.

    More updates to come!

    -eric

Did you have an ETA, sir?

  5. Personally I am in CET (Europe, Stockholm) time zone == GMT/UTC+1

Visiting this site it does not even tell which time zone the time stamps are presented in. But even if I knew I would have to calculate real time on sight. That is sub-optimal user friendliness. Most forums use to afford the users with options to select their preferred time zone, if summer time should be considered, how time stamps should be displayed, and so forth. This forum provides nothing in that area. Please improve.

  6. I'm merely thinking of this forum (English), by the time the Aussies want to start playing it'll likely be back up and they have enough problems as it is playing an online game, god bless them.

This forum is not US only but game-globally. No offence mate but Europe get the shaft way too often :(

  7. So which side of the US is going to be more peeved, East or West coast?

Having spent time in New Yoik I can tell they aren't going to be a happy bunch.

That said I have known Canadians to really lose their poop at times too.

Hey, wait now, you are talking about time zones from GMT+4 to GMT+7 which is 4 time zones, but Earth actually has 24 time zones. Is that not kind of a very narrow view you think?

  8. The data from the nests gives you the tauntaun mount. The pet from the vendor as well as the one you get from the quest are old news. The fawn pet is something different and quite uniquely coloured.

OK, sorry about the noise then.

  9. why does almost every one want the 450cc i just want the taun fawn XD

i'm trying since 2012 to get that little thing  still no luck

when the codes came up i was so happy until none worked ones again to slow :( maybe more luck next time:rolleyes:

So, why don't collect the data you need from the "nests" of Tauntaun babies? Or why do you not buy the pet off of the vendor? I have not played since 2012 but have got a ride from the "nests" already :D

  10. as a systems engineer by trade, i often encounter people who are impacted by a technical outage. I'd say that often, the following questions are usually asked.

    1. What exactly is the problem?

    2. When can i expect it to be fixed?

    3. What are you doing to fix it?

    4. How did this happen?

    5. What do i do now?

All of these questions are irrelevant when asked by the end user. Let me explain:

    1. What are you hoping to gain from this? Are you going to diagnose the problem better than the engineers who are implementing it? Are you going to some how figure out what they can't? This information is pointless in the hands of the powerless.

    2. This is a valid question for planning, but is setting the stage to be disappointed. Problems don't come in neatly packaged containers with cooldowns and minute-by-minute updates. If i decline to tell you a timeline, then you'll be upset. If i guess at a timeline and that time passes, you'll be upset. Committing to a timeline means that i now have to hold myself and any other technicians accountable for a timeline i may not have been prepared to meet. None of these situations are conducive to fixing problems.

    3. Often, this is just like #1. Why is this a concern for the end user? Your curiosity is misplaced in the midst of a problem.

    4. Root cause analysis is something that we do as engineers all the time. This doesn't involve the end user unless the problem originated from the end user. Nevermind that answering this question is pure speculation, 9 times out of 10, an end user wouldn't understand it even if the answer was correct. What purpose does it serve to explain a technical root cause to a person who will never again care about it once they know? So that they can further critique the process from the outside without understanding it?

    5. The answer to this is similarly irrelevant. Asking it denotes two sub-problems. First, anything that an engineer tells you to do will be unacceptable, if it's not the thing that you want to do. And second, it isn't the engineer's job to tell you what to do with your life when you can't have what you want. Go outside, read a book, work on something else, etc. You knew this answer before it was asked.

I'm posting this here because i have seen these questions in varying flavors come from swtor players. Yes, you have the right to feel a type of way if you are a subscriber and you aren't playing the game when you should be. Yes, you have the right to post on here with your opinions. But when you back the developers into a corner with your incessant questions that delve into areas you have no business delving into, you're only gumming up the process.

Let them work, it'll be up soon. Relax.

    Just my two credits.

    .

    :D

  11. Nice story bro, still waiting for the links to examples I can actually check. Nothing personal, but it's the internet, I have no reason to believe such claims.

There are no links. Would you think the US enterprises would announce such things :D

On this one you simply has to trust me, why should I lie about these things?

Or not, that's your common sense that decides, not mine,

You have still to contradict me, the proof is not on my side.

  12. Why don't you read up on all those cases where customers successfully sued an MMO developer for some hours of downtime.

Oh and please, share them, cause I've never found any.

I have redeemed a few dollars simply by referring to the laws that governs sales in my country. No sues needed, the lawyers of MMO's understood the cost of denial.

Rather you read up up on consumer laws across the globe pal :)

  13. I'm not one for ranting and/or posting in forums, but it is extraordinarily refreshing to see someone who a) understands the issues and b) is not sobbing into their warm milk about how UNFAIR it all is. Mistakes happen, and when they do it causes inconvenience. That is life. So what if it has lost you a few dollars/pounds/euros? How much more would you have spent down at the pub if you had gone out tonight?

"Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast"

Heh, you are likely not in the software business, and neither is the one you are quoting. Of course we SW developers hate buggy releases, but we are much ashamed when they happens and we add more tests for the next release. That is one sour spot BioWare has not learned yet, to test ahead of release.

  14. If you read the fine print in your TOS/EULA you would see that they DO NOT guarantee 7/24/365 access for your subscription.

I'm sure they will compensate players with something for the lost time today, but your comments are absurd.

Read up on international laws about consumer rights before you bash on your co-players, please.

  15. Yay! Someone who actually understands the degree of difficulty here. :)

I have the same kind of job as Eric has and I know exactly how he feels. I often have to turn down customer claims but I also often have to play "the devils advocate" when I feel customers are right and my developers are lazy or whatever. It is a hard spot to be in so I feel with Eric. Still, customers bring in our salary so ..... ?

  16. I LAUGH AT YOU ALL, THIS IS JUST A GAME, I've been off for the past few days, was going to get some gaming in.... hasn't worked out too well, hehe. These guys are bustin their butts trying to get it back up with whoever they have available, cut them some slack and quit whining so much. The codes are BS, just get the game up is all I'd like to see. Good luck Dev. Team, and please relax player base.:)

Coming home from a tiresome workday and wanting to chill out a little, why should I accept a malfunctioning software I pay many dollars a month for?? Shame in you!

  17. I just wanted to thank you, Eric for updates and your efforts. Do not listen to all those insensitive ppl which can only complain..

I agree in the praise for Eric. But not when it come to customer satisfaction. We pay and then expects a functional result. Period. But Eric is a person and should not be blamed, BioWare (or EA) should.

  18. Alright, fair consensus seems to stop doing codes. I hear you on them being shareable like the Cantina code is optimal, but it isn't how they work currently. With that in mind I am going to hold off on it. Again, I apologize if people felt slighted, I only meant it is as a fun downtime killer! I will be more sensitive to that in the future.

Again, we are actively moving towards a possible fix now. We then need to test it to ensure it corrected the issues of this morning. I will pass on updates as I have them.

    -eric

This is not personal Eric, not at all.

But repeatedly being shafted because being a Europe player is not fun. Either you make those updates alternate around the clock fairly, or you start compensate subscribing players at least 1 day when these things happens.

My play day is over by now and bed awaits. What more can I say.
