  1. Brought this up in the fall 2018 roadmap live stream and Eric mentioned making a post here with ideas and community input as the team works on creating guild and qol improvements this fall. To preface this post I would like to mention that this idea has been brought up a few times over the years, so you could almost consider this a bump to an old idea. A quick Google search had a few posts ranging from early 2012 to 2015. A sample can be found here if you are looking for more discussion on the issue. http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=598489 http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=267321 http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=824722 With that out of the way as we add guild descriptions, more ranks, and other qol improvements to guilds I think this would be a great opportunity to introduce the ability to have a guild tax on credits looted from mobs. What this might look like: From the perspective of a guild leader: The leader could have the option to set a percentage tax in the guild options menu. It could be a simple slider that can be adjusted between 0% and 15%. This value would be reflected in the guild description and easy for any and all members or recruits to see. This can relieve some of the pressure from providing summons credits, repair funds, or event cash (guild giveaways etc.). I anticipate if this feature were added most GMs would set this at some percentage and forget about it. From the perspective of the active guild member: Let me first establish by what I mean when I say active guild member. These are the people who are on doing conquest every day, already helps donate to the guild bank, maybe contributes crafted items and materials etc. These players would probably land somewhere on the scale of happy that everyone else gets to contribute some work to the guild experience or they might never notice this system in place because it would be a small compared to what they already do. It would be unlikely (imo) that many of these players would view this as a negative feature. From the perspective of the regular guild member: These players know they're in a guild, tag along with any sort of guild events, but are really just there for the experience that the active guild members described above provide. A proposed tax of say 10% on credit drops would probably go completely unnoticed to them. Even if their favorite activity in the game was farming heroics and looting mobs, each group would go from say 1500 credits to 1350. It's such a small number that it would add up to a whopping 10 grand or so after their day of heroics. Just enough to pay for the next time they need to summon their group of friends to the next world boss. However, maybe we have an attentive player who now feels they are being robbed of their credits and are unhappy with being forced to contribute to the guild. More on this later but for now I will leave you with the thought of new types of guilds created and promoted with the promise of 0% tax for these players who want to farm their mobs to the max. From the perspective of the guild members who don't even know they're in a guild: You may or may not have met these types of players but to me, they stand the most to lose. They were invited to a guild somewhere along the way and their story ends there. They go through their class missions and enjoy the more than likely f2p life for a few months before moving on. You could argue that a guild tax basically just takes free money from these players and they would not benefit from this system. The probably won't be summoning, using repair bills, or participating in guild funded activities. For these players, I suppose it would just be important to make it obvious in the new guild descriptions that "hey btw you're being charged 10% on mob loots for showing off our guild tag". I'm not really sure what else to say about these players but it is something to consider. To me this is what a guild tax might look like to different players. Now to address some possible concerns. First of all, what will be taxed? This could be a point for the community and the development team to discuss but to myself, there are three different tiers of taxation that could make sense. 1. Only credits looted from mobs. This to me would have a very minimal impact on individual players but as a guild could still show positive results. 2. Tax on credits earned from completing missions. This is where the discussion on where to draw the line really starts. If you get 10k credits for every mission near max level, and you contribute 1k of your earnings and only keep 9k, the total amount you are donating has now increased quite a bit. Especially for our heroic grinders out there. It would be great to hear thoughts on this. 3. GTN tax. I can hear the collective "absolutely not" from our gtn billionaires out there. I think this would be too far and would have some interesting consequences on the market as a whole but I figured I should drop it in here as an extreme case, or if anything just a point to encourage discussion. Now that I've hopefully sparked some discussion on what is taxed, lets look at more individual concerns. -"I do a bunch of heroics and I'm going to be funding xyz player who doesn't do anything to contribute" I encourage people to think of what benefits they get from being a member of a guild / from the guild bank. If you don't benefit much maybe the guild isn't right for your play style? This sounds kind of bad in text I admit but I'll try to give an example. If you enjoy the game doing heroics and being social an don't really use guild funds at all you might now feel ripped off because you're funding someone who only logs into raid and uses all the repair funds you contribute. To me, it may be a possibility for players to look for guilds that better fit their playstyle (maybe don't have a tax or you all raid and use repair funds etc.). I don't have a ton of thoughts on this matter myself but felt it was important to address this possibility in fairness to these players and hopefully others in the community have some better thoughts on this. -"Why bother with a guild tax. The entire idea of being in a guild is to contribute and work as a group we should all be doing this already!" Some people would feel that this feature is a waste and or simply creates opportunities to take advantage of players. Based on personal experience, not everyone goes out of their way to contribute to guild efforts and a few core players largely fund everything. This is fine and has worked ok so far but I think the benefits outway any negatives. Again, just a point to bring up for discussion by the community. That about does it for things off the top of my head, I would love to hear thoughts from the community on the matter.
  2. Interesting, your gear didn't happen to be repaired or you didn't have a skill tree reset or anything of the like? Just trying to think if little things that cost credits in the game that a patch may reset (such as gear durability). Idk but I see how it can bother you.
  3. Would be more than overjoyed to get open world pvp going again! People need to stop being scared of nothing, it's not like dying due to another player cost you anything, not even repair bill, and it can be lots of fun for sure!
  4. In regards to a recant post(s) by Tetshui found here http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?p=8757557#post8757557 Good evening, Allow me to introduce myself. I have been playing and moving around servers for quite some time now and I often find myself frequenting the forums seeking out events and other news. I keep some of my favorite toons on the BC server quite frankly because of the people there. You can find me within and helping to lead The Vengeful Empire. A somewhat newer guild by all means that I'm attracted to for its amazing community. And why does all this matter? Well, preferring not to server transfer every time I want to get into a raid (on a BC toon, Vengeful being so new is not ready for guild raids), I often take to the general chat in search of pugs or better yet guilds needing an extra member or two (I prefer finding the guild groups because I feel that they know how to work together better and the group as a whole would have an easier time at succeeding). I myself have found my way into more than a few Krayt hard mode runs, as they (appear to be from my time here, a few years at that, certainly after 4.0) are one of the few BC groups who are comfortable with pugging HM members and not worrying about not defeating a boss. The first few times I have joined them, (I suppose they are a newer guild or maybe one that moved because I don't remember the Krayt name or running with them before 4.0) I was surprised at their hospitality. I never had any issues running with them, especially on a social or common decency front. After my first run with them (kp I believe) I left with some gear and a smile. Since that time I have seen their name pop up here and there and I've run a few other ops with them. There were times when I would be browsing the gtn or crafting for my guild and not seeking out ops, yet I would find myself joining in to fill a spot with them, knowing that I wouldn't have to deal with the risk of pug ops. Those risk being not being able to clear content, master looter issues (While Krayt often runs with master looter, I have never ever had any sort of issue and loot has always been distributed evenly and fairly, even to people outside their guild or realm of friends like myself) etc. I should note, that on their runs when they need more people, the group is usually only 4-6 krayt members at most, the rest being pugged. The runs have always been fair, respectful, and fun for everyone in the group. So why am I here writing this post on a somewhat trivial matter when I am ready to turn off my computer and head in for the night? As I previously mentioned, I often browse the forums when there's not much going on or when I am just looking for something to do. I was doing just that when I saw this post. Seeing the name of one of the things I like about BC and seeing it attacked I was rather surprised. So I read through your post and considered what you were saying and tried to ignore the feeling that one of my elementary aged sons was trying to get the other in trouble for taking a bigger slice of cake or finishing the cereal (Honestly, if you want to bash someone and get personal revenge over peccadilloes the server or forums doesn't care about, tattling is not the way to do it). As I'm reading through your post I'm thinking, wow, that defiantly doesn't sound right and sounds like part of the story is missing. If what you say is true, then there would certainly have had to have been an issue to cause such a response? Whatever the cause was behind such actions, I tend to lend on the Krayt side for the kindness they have always shown their pugged members in the past. I also find it rather rash and warranted of someone to take three people, use those three people to represent some 400 people, and smear it on the forums like a toddler smears their spaghetti. So to you I ask, have you considered why? Have you examined your own behavior as much as theirs? Is it fair to use three members to represent a guild? And so on. Your post simply has too little of whats important and too much of what's not. IF you're going to attack someone (or 500 someones) you need to approach it in a logical way that people can follow. Because right now, people like me are left to either chose your side (who so far has not presented themselves in an outstanding way) or I can chose the other side for their positive reputation and my experiences with them. With no evidence or reason presented, the side I choose is clear, krayt. Returning to the question started in the above paragraph, I sat down and chose to write this, chose to defend people who I would not even call friends, chose to take time out of my day to parent the internet and its internet babies, for a simple reason. Because the game does not need unwarranted, unsupported attacking of its community. As members of BC, or even swtor as a whole, why attack someone and force blame onto them when clearly the issue goes far beyond their action? If someone is thinking about joining the BC server and sees some overreacting half told story they will be turned away and go somewhere where they don't need to fear ending up with you in their raid. Furthermore, I write this because someone needs to defend and to say, to put it out there, the suspicion and possibility that the creator of this thread (created with the sole intent of enacting revenge and causing strife) may be wrong. Or at least not entirely right. The "guild" (or would it be more fair to call "few people") in question has had an excellent past and reputation and to so prematurely take to ranting is simply not right. And so I sacrifice a few minutes of my sleep to say a few words (maybe not of wisdom but words are words) on why the community, the server, the op, and the members of Krayt need to consider what they are reading, why they are reading it, and what (if anything) they should think about it. Thank you for your time.
  5. As I searched for ideas that would be fun for the nvidia contest, I thought to the rp stories that many of my guildies write. I then thought, why wright a story, when you can make a video? Check it out and lemme know what you think. I think I enjoyed this far more than I would have going the traditional rout and writing it out in a post.
  6. OK, thank you for the responses. Tonight when I have more time I'll review the task manager percentages in a warzone and I'll get that information out there. As you both are inclined to think it is more cpu related (as am I), how high would you think I would need to OC the cpu to achieve that 25 or so fps? I am an experienced computer user and know how to safely OC, however I'll need to purchase a water cooler if OCing further is what I need to do. Ill definitely re-double check that any and all unnecessary programs are closed. Thanks again, I'll come back tonight with more information regarding which programs are running and the % usages. Edit: I have tried running the game in "high" priority and by designating 1 .exe to two of my cores and the other .exe to the other two. I did not notice much of a difference and still fell to that 10fps. I'll try only setting swtor to 3 .exe and leaving the 4th for system tonight.
  7. To start, I would like to mention that I am only posting myself after months and months of searching countless forums from just as many websites. Now, with little progress made I am coming here to look for some specific support tailored to my hardware and what I can specifically do to possibly get some results. Additionally, I am not looking for "the game engine sucks gg go home," I am aware of the engine limitations as well as the fact that we are not getting a new one. This game can be run successfully and I am here to learn how I can achieve a more enjoyable player experience. With those two ideas in mind, here is my hardware before I outline my situation and my goals. Desktop Cpu: Amd fx4300 @ 4.0 ghz (quad core) -this is under a very minor and stable overclock. These processors can be taken to roughly 4.5 ghz, however I would prefer to switch over to water cooling before attempting a heavier OC. That being said, is 4.0 enough? Is it really necessary to OC further? Ideas welcomed GPU: EVGA Nvidia gtx 750ti ftw 2gb (under a moderately strong OC, I am aware that this is by all means a lower end card, however I have yet to have any issues with it, and don't believe it to be harming my fps. It currently has a base clock of 1100 something and a boost clock of 1300 or 1400, however the card never 'boosts' itself because it never needs to. Temps are very low, (30-low 40s) .That being said I could be completely wrong and maybe that is the cause to my problems, opinions are welcome. Ram: 8gb (at 1666 or whatever the mid range speed is, forget the exact number but shouldn't be important.) SSD: pny 360gb ssd, off the top of my head I don't remember the model number etc, if it is that important I can dig it up. I only run windows 10 64 bit and swtor off my SSD.) OS: Windows 10 64 bit home edition in game ping 42 ms I think that is all that should be relevant, if you need further information I will be happy to find and provide it. So where am I at now and what am I looking at? To start, my in game settings are as follows (close to med, lowering them further yields no fps increase) Full screen Windowed 1366x768 resolution (max supported by my monitor) Refresh rate 60 Bloom enabled Texture quality high Convo Depth of field On shaders high AA off character lvl of detail low texture anisotropy low Character atlasing low visible limit low shadows off shadow cascades (greyed out) Tree and Grass quality set to zero. My game play is completely enjoyable and aesthetically acceptable for everything excluding warzones and operations, composing of roughly 80% of my game experience. Running around fleet I will get 60+ fps, even in crowded areas with everyone spamming abilities I will average in the 40s at lowest. Flagships, SH, etc 85+ fps, login screen 103 fps. As you can see, no issues there. However, In pvp I will frequent 9-11 fps. This is an extreme difference and I would really like to stay above 25 fps! Operations are not any better, with roughly 15 fps in boss fights. Going to wrap it up there, in all honesty not sure what else to say. Does anyone have any suggestions? I get such great fps everywhere except for where I need it. Do I need to invest in a water cooler and OC my cpu to 4.6? Is my gpu which usually is not being used holding me back? I am desperate for help as I have invested time, money, and love into this game and want nothing more than to play it how it is supposed to be played. Thank you for your time, consideration and suggestions. If there is anything else I forgot to include (looking back it is quite possible that I left something out) please let me know, I am happy to work with you to figure something out. Thanks!
