  1. I can understand why Anakin was into Padme, but I admit the reverse is a little odd. In Anakin's case, Padme was probably the hottest human chick to show up in Watto's shop in Tattooine. My only theory with Padme is that maybe Anakin helped her break away from her responsibilities of being a Senator and being so focused on her career to finding time to enjoy life for herself. Typical chick flick w/ the "working girl".
  2. 1) Yes - a force sensitive is a force sensitive regardless of race 2) From Ilum in the Adegan caves, blue and green are standard. Yellow, orange somehow came through. Mace Windu is the only person to have purple so I have no idea how that came about. The Sith synthesize their own crystals and they turn out red. 3) Chewie lived on with Han/Leia and their future kids. But he then died on a dying moon or something. Didn't read that particular book. 4) Well the original intention was to finish the saga with 1,2,3. There were rumors of 7,8,9 but after the reception of 1,2,3 and Lucas "retiring", I'd say that's a no 5) None. <insert punchline> 6) There was one book but it was terrible. Zorba the Hutt - Jabba's dad, sought revenge on Leia for his death. Obviously he failed. 7) There's a lot of info out there on the others in the expanded universe. But the star cast is the star cast.
  3. Well here's another reason I think people hate prequels and it doesn't have anything to do with acting or writing or whatever. I'm sure those are major reasons but here's my theory... The original trilogy was all we had during that time. There was nothing else to compare it with Star Wars-wise. And because George Lucas (for whatever reason because I honestly don't know) chose to organize the episodes in the order of 4,5,6 followed by 1,2,3, our perspectives get affected. When the original trilogy debuted, the groundwork for the Star Wars EU was laid out. We knew that Luke Skywalker's father Vader was at one point Anakin Skywalker. We knew that at some point Anakin fell to the dark side. We knew that Obiwan trained Anakin and failed. We knew at some point Anakin not only failed but got seriously f'd up so he had to don on this cybernetic equipment. We knew there was once a Jedi order. We knew that at some point Anakin had kids with a woman, and that it was best to hide those kids from him in the end. And so on... We knew a whole bunch of tidbits, but that was it. The entire story of how the original trilogy started was left to our imaginations. So we filled in the gaps on our own. The story that George told didn't match what we had in mind. We really didn't see Vader's origins being like this...or his wife's....or Obiwan's....etc. And that pisses us off... Like I said it's not the entire reason we feel how we do about the prequels, but I think it definitely contributes.
  4. Well it depends on the context. If you're talking the prequel era of the EU, then I like it. And I assume that within this context of a Star Wars discussion forum, books would be accepted. But you're definitely right in general. If I'm talking to the average SW fan out there, I most likely would refer to movies specifically. I guess I'm saying that I like the time period but I agree with the movies.
  5. I think it's unfair to judge purely off the movies. As movies, the acting was quite bad (not the actors' faults), but the lore was excellent. I've read the prequel books and it's honestly my favorite SW time period. The books are great but obviously the movies can't reflect that as well.
  6. Well I think the EU (and I hope it goes this way) will eventually evolve to host brand new characters that are completely unrelated to our Star Wars heros. The Star Wars universe is so well crafted that I think we can have star characters stand on their own and not be linked by the major figures. But my opinion is that the EU lost its way not because of the progression after ROJ, but the changing of the prequel lore because of the constant new content being loaded in there. The Clone Wars series has changed up quite a bit of the lore from that time with certain characters and factions and planets. I can't label specific examples off the top of my head right now, but I know they're there. Still, this is a great universe and part of the reason I couldn't wait for this game was because it was finally a chance to be "living" in this universe via a great MMO.
  7. They said they'll include neutral gear soon. Be patient.
  8. First of all you should title your thread Vanilla WoW > SWTOR. Not really comparing individual points. Just bashing a game you're choosing to keep paying for. But to address these points. Night/Day? Weather? Yes SWTOR lacks these but are they THAT important?????? Those parts of the MMO NEVER affected your gameplay. I never understood why people cry so much about them. In simulation racing games I totally get it because it does Night/Day and weather effects do affect the driving. But MMOs??? There is music in this game quite a bit and the bulk is John Williams score. I'll admit it would be nice to have the option to have it loop endlessly. (Music didn't play all the time in WoW unless you enabled the option) There are yellow beasts who won't attack you in SWTOR. They're like bigger critters in a way. There are mob patrols in SWTOR so I think you're completely off base with that. There are lots of crafting materials and you can run out in the world and farm the nodes. Once again I think you're off base here. Dungeons were a cordoned off zone with a fuzzy portal out front. Didn't really have to look for enemies in that. But I'll give you the fact that yes....they were actually in the lands as opposed to a fleet. There are quite a few load times in this game. Combat is fine for me but could be better. World isn't sloppy. Wildlife isn't sloppy (I don't get what qualifies as sloppy for this) This game has voice acting with dialogue and personal class stories that let you make choices throughout your journey.....forget to mention that little fact? There are some points I agree with but overall this is a quality MMO if you give it a fair chance.
  9. The leveling is too slow when the planet is boring and too fast when the planet is fun. I will never be happy with the current situation but will be extremeley pissed if BW changes it because the change will never be in my favor.. But I'll still continue paying because people here can't escape my whining unlike the friends I used to have....
  10. Yes Star Wars was a factor for my purchase but I'm sick of the negative tone some people give to that concept. Star Wars is a great reason to buy this game alongside its story and voice acting. People who proclaim that the Star Wars IP is the only reason this game is doing well are sad. I love Star Wars but it's not like some developer can expect me to pay for a game with an empty white space and a Republic logo on the wall... I found the Force Unleashed series to be somewhat fun but not worth a purchase. Same thing goes for countless other Star War games in the past. I used to love Legos as a kid and they have Lego Star Wars out there but I wouldn't buy that. The fact this is the first MMO to ever have fully voice acted dialogue with personal class stories that give you choices to make is an incredible achievement. The fact that it's Star Wars makes it even more amazing.
  11. I also think, because of how this game is with its voice acting and choices, being with someone else is like having a person trying to talk to you while you're reading a book or watching a movie.
  12. There are a lot of viable races they could include. I like all the races thus far but I honestly didn't get the point of the Cyborg. I never heard of Cyborgs in Star Wars. I've heard of people within the lore using implants and cybernetic enhancements, but not enough to qualify as a race. Plus considering the fact that everyone in this game uses Implants and such, aren't we all cyborgs in a way? But anyway... Races: Wookies, Rodians, Trandoshans, Quarians, Sullustans, Noghri are amongst some I'd recommend. (Especially since some of those are already in the game as NPCs) Classes can be a bit tricky considering the story emphasis with SWTOR. I easily thought Pilot would be one if they really beefed up space combat and created a story of its own with it. But I don't see how a Pilot could really cooperate with others in PvP/PvE outside of space... Hmm.. Well my favorite class from old-school SWG was the Teras Kasi Master because I LOVE martial arts. So Teras Kasi Artist would be my idea (or if Teras Kasi is too new for Old Republic then they can find a martial art of that time period) I don't know what faction this would fall into. Maybe it could start neutral with the player choosing the faction at level 10? (A la Mists of Pandera) They could genuinely care for the faction they choose or be in it just for the money. The story could involve a rival student who can't handle the glory you've gained and demolishes your hometown with mercenary forces. Then you choose the faction you'd think would best help you achieve your revenge. (Or maybe you don't choose revenge, idk) This just pure bs but you get the point. Advanced classes could involved all 3 roles. It would make good use of the vibroblades and electrostaffs in this game. Perhaps your AC could revolve around your choice of those weapons or unarmed. I think overall this is a solid idea because it was also stomp on the new class WoW will be coming out with....
  13. Well I'd say some people out there like the idea of managing/maintaining a character within a persistent universe. Or play a game that never really ends. I'll be honest, I kind of play solo. I don't refuse groups all the time but I will quite a bit. I hate spamming chat to find a group. Also there are plenty of times I finish my quests and am about to log when all of a sudden people arrive. Like I said, I'm not against playing with others, though i do notice that I tend to be on my own most of the time.
  14. Well nostalgia is also a major factor. Our tastes have matured/evolved over the years. What we had fun with years ago just won't cut it today. Plus we only remember the good parts, not the inconveniences, and there were glaring ones back then. We have also grown up. I was a college student surrounded by fellow MMO gamers back in the early days of WoW and I have great memories of it. Today I work full-time + masters and hopefully I can hang out with others once a week if not a month. I realized that I wouldn't have the patience to grind through what the old MMOs required me to do. I want a solid, ever-lasting experience and that's what today's MMOs reflect. There's also the fact that WoW brought the MMO genre to the mainstream audience, whether you like it or not. You're no longer considered a "nerd" for playing an MMO like WoW because nearly everyone out there has done it at some point. With more and more people entering this genre, the content has been more simplified and straightforward. If MMOs were SOOO amazing back then, they would not be that different today. The fact is, they've changed to what they've become now for a reason... And we still keep buying them, even though we know deep down taht we're never going to relive our glory days...
  15. Yes. Could use more features here and there but the core gameplay experience with its story/VO is very enjoyable.
  16. I guess it is frustrating when you fail a test and try to tell your parents that the class failed in general, only for them to find out the 95% class average.....
  17. ...your DVR freezes up for a second before continuing and you immediately get on your cable provider's forums and rage about the failed launch of their service while occasionally alt tabbing to find marketwatch quotes that support your doomsday perspective.
  18. I really feel bad for ArenaNet when these posers come over and ruin that game's environment by belittling every feature and accomplishment and magnifying the tiniest bugs/glitches to the point of overwhelming everything. They are seriously a plague.
  19. Facts are facts. The numbers are there. Deal with it. Why do you guys hate the fact that people love this game???? I thought being in the minorty meant you were special and unique. All I'm seeing here is people hating on the game and trying to conjure up ways to deny numbers presented. What you should be asking, is "Why am I part of those numbers when I hate this game?" Like you take Twilight for instance. I've never seen that movie. But it blew up into this whole franchise with millions of fans around the world. Do I feel threatened by that? Does it anger me so bad that I can't sleep at night? No. It's just not my cup of tea but I can accept the fact that people out there are into it...
  20. If you guys want freedom with difficulty, have you ever thought of pursuing the south korean or japanese MMOs out there? They don't have the structure our MMOs have. In fact this applies to gaming in general when you compare both countries. Our country is fond of easy-access, quick time event, story driven type games where we want an experience. Overseas it's more of a hard, addicting challenge you have to overcome. You can think of games they brought here like Ninja Gaiden, Dark Souls, etc.
  21. Games in general cost a lot these days. So this number didn't surprise me.
