  1. From: http://www.swtor.com/community/devtracker.php There are some other things I wanted to keep all of you apprised of as well. Aside from the Golden Scalene Armor being embargoed from the Cartel Market, so are a few other items. They are: Dire Taskmaster's Robe Dire Overlord's Vestments Dire Warmaster's Body Armor Dire Eliminator's Chestguard Guard Captain's Chestplate CZ-27k Stealth Ops Suit CZ-18x Avalanche Chestplate Honored Master's Vestments Honored Champion's Robe Honored Sabarist's Harness Honored Adept's Shroud MA-52 Med-tech Chestplate Emergency Responder's Overcoat MA-53 Overwatch Chestplate Jawagram "I Love You" Jawagram "It's A Surprise"
  2. Something occurred to me that might help with complaints regarding lack of new content at the exclusive vendors (i.e. Collectors Edition) in the game. It seems reasonable to say that the number of active CE and pre-order players, as a % of ALL current and future players, is probably small - and getting smaller. It has a set base, which can never increase. This, in turn, means that the group - in terms of new content at the exclusive vendors, has been neglected, as the possibility to profit from new FTP players is obviously very large from a corporate perspective. To make this exclusive group more attractive to EA, and therefore more attractive for EA to please, why not open the group - and the exclusive vendors/content - to subscribers who meet a required amount of cartel market spending ($). If somebody spends $50 a month on cartel items, as well as a subscription, they are probably EA's version of the ideal customer. To freeze this player out from content which they would probably pay for, depending on quality, doesn't seem fair/reasonable or particularly sensible from a corporate perspective. Keeping them out because they didn't buy the game on, or by, a certain day, doesn't seem to make much sense either, but maybe that's just me... People in this category are the games most 'loyal' customers, and, by definition, the game's biggest spenders, making exclusive content for them a more reasonable proposition. Allowing players the possibility of joining this group, with exclusive gear or rewards, because of their spending, might also somewhat reduce the disappointment which comes from getting nothing from countless cartel packs. It could be a good idea from a couple of angles: 1) The group will start to grow, becoming larger - but still exclusive - giving it the size and spending power to be worth making new content for (the game's biggest spenders). 2) Current CE and pre-order customers benefit, despite having new members join their group, because they are much more likely to get regular content updates. 3) People who are disappointed with returns (versus $ spend), from the Cartel Market can be rewarded for their efforts, making them generally happier with the game, and increasing the likelihood they will spend again in the future. Apologies for the length of the post... kjlx
  3. Yes i got these the other day, and despite the fact the description says character, it is definitely account wide. I got the droid, mailbox, and GTN terminal, and now have those on the ships of all chars from my legacy...
  4. I just enjoy playing the shadow class and would like to play more to its strengths. I'm sure this is a very standard set-up, but I have already reached level 50 in a no nonsense dps class, and find it nice to change my playstyle. Unfortunately I am too greedy if I know there is bonus xp on offer, and will attempt to get as much of it as I can... Just saying basically that bonuses and incentives generally encourage a particular type of behavior, and personally, I would find it nice to have objectives which encouraged me to play to my class strengths, and not those of another.
  5. I've been playing a Jedi Shadow and it doesn't seem quite right that - to meet most bonus objectives - I need to ignore stealth, and basically just butcher entire populations of (mostly) avoidable enemies. This is especially true if one is playing light side. Why would a light side Jedi choose to be responsible for so much (very) avoidable death anyway? As a class with stealth, It would be nice if my shadow could have stealth based objectives, rather than the (mainly) kill based ones which are so common. I am not asking for current objectives to be removed. I was just wondering on the possibility of having more than one way of reaching quest bonus objectives, to compliment the current 'massacre' based method.
  6. Just to follow what I was writing on my Alienware R2, after getting home it appears that by default my computer was running SWTOR using the integrated graphics, and not the Nvidia card. I've changed the settings so assume that I should see a big performance improvement now - hopefully. I assume it was because I was recently messing with the default settings when I was trying to get Baldur's Gate EE to run... I want to thank the OP, as otherwise I wouldn't have known there was a problem! EDIT: Ok WOW. i just put all settings on max and it works great. Looks very nice. To think I probably logged well over 100 hours of gameplay with all settings 'off' or very low... Thanks again for the thread OP!
  7. I have an R2. Spec's below: 3rd Generation Intel Core i7-3610qm 2.3GHz CPU 8GB RAM 64GB Ssd + 1TB HDD 2GB Graphics Memory NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M using NVIDIA Optimus technology 1 TB HDD 8 GB RAM 1600 x 900 Screen Resolution 8 Cell Battery Is it possible that my connection to the server could cause the low fps/juddering i get when on? Otherwise, what else could it be?
  8. I have an Alienware MX14 and I set the laptop itself to maximum performance settings (laptop power settings). To be honest if i want the game to run smoothly, with no jarring and decent fps I have to run SWTOR on mostly low or very low graphical settings, with no AA, bloom etc. I think i have character models and one other option set at high. While the game is running, the laptop fan goes like crazy pretty much the entire time. This was a little surprising to me (having to keep the settings so low), as when playing other games I am not forced to keep them this low... I can play on higher settings, and it runs ok at times, but not consistently.
  9. Well that makes sense - leaving aside issues around the total cost of repairs. People seem to be posting that they are not seeing high costs on some armor. It's possible they are mistaken I suppose. I will have to find out myself, but I am assuming that the high costs are only on moddable gear, so it looks like I will be relying on green or blue drops etc. All the way up to 50 there are actually viable options with those types. I'd prefer to use orange peices, but if the costs are that different, maybe I'll just have to ignore the look and go purely for the best numbered green/blue. That way I can use my planet commendations for something other than mod pieces for once. I have a 400 Synth, maybe I will crank out a few green or blues myself and see what the demand looks like...
  10. I must say the increase in repair costs seems to run against sensible corporate policy by EA/Bioware. As I am leveling, why should I spend real $$ money on Cartel Market armor, for instance, which could cost me a fortune in-game to repair, when I can just equip the best green that dropped, and pay virtually nothing to maintain it? This is assuming that CM armor is as expensive as the other types to fix I suppose. So has anybody found a fair (allowable) loophole? Is the cost of repairing one type of moddable armor a lot lower than the other types? Has anyone tested this? This could be the best way to address the issue, ironically, because if there is a loophole, I am betting EA will try to shut it down. Maybe, then, they might consider making the system a little fairer for those who are upset by the recent change. If anyone has modded armor and isn't paying much to repair it, I'd be interested to know what the armor type is. My best guess at trying to avoid the costs, would be to equip the best green or blue you can find - assuming its stats match up - and change it out when you find better.
  11. That's an excellent link, thank you. I forgot to mention in my previous post that a possible solution to the issue of giving fair reward for completing difficult content could be: 1) With one set of post 50 comm's, just making sure that the number of comm's provided scales fairly to quest difficulty. I don't think somebody who can't do ops, for instance, should be penalised by never being able to purchase xx gear. But if it took that player 3-4 months, versus 1 week for a player doing hard mode quests (or whatever), that could work. So, I don't know, 1 comm for a Black Hole daily, and 100-150 comms for a high end ops mission. This way, at least, players who are constrained by various issues (empty server, time/work constraints) can still achieve the absolute best level of gear etc., but must work hard for a very long time. The system would be clean, incentives still exist, and everyone can easily understand exactly where they stand. 2) Extremely rare unique item drops, which are exclusive to difficult quests only, and are not purchasable at comm vendors - or anywhere else. It's awesome that people have put time and effort into helping other players with guides like the one from above. It would also be nice if the system was easy enough to understand that they weren't necessary!
  12. I totally understand that it's confusing because I was late to TOR. That's not a problem, and I want to respect the culture of the game. To me, cities which evolved naturally, e.g. London, New York, etc. can be far more interesting than those which were planned (such as Canberra (shudder)), and this craziness itself can add a certain authenticity to the subject (the game in this instance). Nevertheless, when you look at it with fresh eyes, the end game product appears to be lacking. The system is cluttered, complicated, somewhat irritating, and incentive sapping. You have to do a very large amount of reading just to figure out what is going on and what you should do, and even then it is easy to misunderstand - which is hardly ideal. This situation is absolutely not bad enough to make me unsubscribe, but it is enough to make me stop playing my first L50 character and move onto another. I also understand the comment about invalidating hard work and incentivising the easy path. I'm not trying to redesign the game, but could achievements, new character titles, VIP areas, etc. help with that? Don't know really, just thinking...
  13. So, I recently finished the story as a Sentinel, and had a really good time. I started as free to play, and enjoyed the game enough to become a subscriber. It is interesting to come from that angle, as you no longer see what was 'taken away' as many former subscribers seemed to feel strongly about, especially here, but rather you see how much is given. This is my first MMO, by the way, so whatever anyone says, credit to Bioware. I never intended, or wanted, to play an MMO, yet I find myself a subscriber here. So from me at least, respect to them.. __________ I must say, however, that this whole 'end game' commendation thing is confusing, and, to me - just plain messy. My guy has 400 Synthweaving so I crafted him, and some comps, Rakata belts and bracers, and, when it became available, I collected my Recruit gear. Following that, as commonly advised, I tried out dailies on Belsavis, Ilum, and the Black Hole (to date). I know, or at least assume, that these things grew (evolved), but I don't see the point in having all these different types of end game commendations. Black hole dailies don't give Black Hole Comms? Why call them Black Hole then? Black Hole ones, apparently, come from other - ironically - non Black Hole activities. Given my current setup, there is not a massive incentive to do any of the dailies which merely give 'daily' comms, as the step up in quality from my current gear is marginal. I am on an APAC server which does not have a large population, so things like Ops don't seem to happen much. I'm obviously missing something, but I don't get why all 'elder' game commendation rewards can't be combined, and used all together, at a single vendor, not the 20+ that are all over the place now - to purchase all elder game items/mods etc. Now I don't mind splitting between PvP and PvE items/comms, but the the current system breaks the game up, makes it much more confusing, and also reduces any incentive to play the repetitive end game content. Under those circumstances, adding incentives to play, rather than taking them away, would seem to be the most sensible strategy. __________ Has the system been designed this way to protect the time that people have put in to grinding BiS gear? If so, and I don't necessarily have a problem with that, I wonder what gear will come with Rise of the Hutt Cartel, and level 55. If it is better quality than the current BiS stuff, and gained cheaply, as would seem possible, how would that fit in with protecting the grind? kjlx
  14. I'm on Gav and to be honest what is more important to me is that 2 out of every 3 days at the moment, my gaming experience is either ruined or significantly negatively impacted by lag issues/ not being able to connect at all. I am paying to play the game, and while more players on my server might be nice, being able to get on the server is actually a huge pain for me at the moment. My connection is otherwise fine, I pay top dollar for good bandwidth and have no connection issues anywhere else on the net.
  15. Post of the day. Maybe I'm sleep deprived or something but that was too funny.
  16. Why not do the class quests to open up necessary quests/planets etc. and just RP that your character is experiencing visions caused by her strong link to her legacy buddy (the original who's story you don't want to repeat)? That's basically the line which was given to the player in KOTOR 1 (re Bastila and the Protagonist), and fits in with force related powers/stories/mythology of Star Wars. Doing it that way could help connect your legacy RP, if you bother thinking of it that way.
  17. Did a little bit of PvP on Gav last night and I was literally entering as soon as I hit the 'join queue' button. Recently - to me - the population there does seem to have picked up noticeably.
  18. Ok fair enough. I was thinking purely about chat related trolling. I didn't consider people randomly interjecting themselves visually in your RP. I assume this is not a solution which is valid here, but one way ironically might be if you were in an open world PvP situation, your entire RP group could attack any interlopers. If you had 20-30+ people all attacking at once, i'd think you would be able to protect yourself from that sort of behavior and continue in peace. Could add some realism to the RP?
  19. Ok maybe there is an obvious negative to this answer, and it may not be ideal even if not, but what about the possibility of an RP guild on Gav Daragon? You are immune from people trolling you, you can RP full time on the server if you want, and other 'shy' RP types might be more comfortable joining, knowing that they won't be trolled by non-RP'ers? Group size would not be limited, and people could come and go from your guild depending on situation or desire. Have you considered that as one alternative to the issue?
  20. I can sympathize with the sentiments of the OP. However, I have been on the Gav Daragon a decent number of hours over the last couple of months, and while it is an RP server, not once in that entire time have I ever seen ('overheard'), anybody RP'ing. The closest anyone gets to RP is to stand around jumping and dancing, while making random emotes. The vast majority of talk is just people asking LFG's for flashpoints. People are surprisingly well behaved though. I've only ever seen one person mouthing off, and they were shut down very quickly. EDIT: To be fair, though, given it is an RP server, I agree that people should RP in peace if they choose to do so.
  21. Ok that's great. I appreciate the responses. I think I was just reminded of Kotor (1 or 2?) where you could equip a saber in the wrong spot and really reduce your damage output. Just wanted to make sure.
  22. Ok thanks for the reply. Your response seemed pretty clear but just to clarify: If a weapon is mainhand only, it will not be possible to equip it in the offhand. If a weapon is offhand only, it will only be usable in the offhand. If a weapon has properties which allow it to be used in either hand, it should state so in the item description, and it can be equipped in whichever hand you want it. Is that right? Thanks.
  23. This question only just occurred to me, for some reason. I have been running a Sentinel for a while now, but so far have only been looking at a saber's stats, without paying any attention to offhand/mainhand status. I suppose my general assumption was that if the blade fits in a slot, then it's effective in that slot. So is it ok to equip 2 mainhand sabers as a Sentinel? Or am I gimping my damage output by not having a specialist offhand saber in my offhand? thx.
