  1. @OP - definitely the exception to the rule. In my travels across various servers, I've found /gsf to be dominated by helpful folks, typically only interested in sharing tips and assisting their fellow pilots. Yes, you will inevitably find a few negative nancies, but imo their voices are drowned out by the positivity. Relatively speaking, if we're using a 1-10 scale where 1 is hugs and rainbows, and 10 is a toxic cesspool of hate, then /gsf is usually a 3, /pvp is a 10. And fleet chat is an 11.

GSF players by rule are in fact helpful however, /GSF chat has been toxic across many servers for quite some time. I have been saying that telling new people to /cjoin GSF is not really good advice anymore. And of course I am then informed by the established GSF clique and everything is just fine and there are no problems. When I am trying to help people on The Harbinger I have them go to our old GSF channel that the [Locust Swarm] does not know about.

This strikes me as brutally awful advice. I gather you've got some issues with the "GSF establishment" - but to misdirect new pilots on the basis of that personal bias just seems petty and mean. /gsf is not moderated by any clique. Nearly every veteran pilot is in there. That is where new folks should go to gather an array of useful advice and opinions. Not some little-known channel populated by (what I can only assume) is a miniscule subset of GSFers representing (again, assuming) one particular perspective.

Well said by the pilot flying the clarion with proton torpedoes

    I lol'ed

  2. this is my view of gsf. it really is garbage when the same 5 guys get all the kills and damage. i think there running some kind of hack honestly . lets give this example and tell me if im wrong. a person on imp side come out in a scout and constantley 1 shot kills the entire republic team, then turns around heals up and come back and continues to 1 shot and entire team.. no can hit him because he has some magical evasion i have never seen before. at the end of the match 10-40 kills. tell me if thats fun having to deal with. pvp is the same. both are not fun at all and miserable when you cant do anything but die the whole match.

I have seen people shooting though walls,

    1 second missile locks,

    1 shot kills

magical engine and gun energy drain from 16000m

guys rubberbanding with convient lag spikes where you cant hit them but they can hit you.

and people flying around with infinite shields and hull health.

people who you cant hit no matter what you use and how close.

the best comment i heard is upgrade your ship- well get this the ship is maxed already

Are you on JC? I've seen someone with a remarkably similar handle (I think just missing the 'h'). If not, ignore me, but if so - look me up in game (names in sig). I'd be happy to fly with you and see if I can catch some of this questionable activity live. If I see it, I can either try to explain it, or back up your accusations. But my perspective is the same as Siraka's: pretty much everything that looks like a hack can be explained by in-game mechanics, and/or lag. Lag can lead to some pretty weird stuff, including a couple of the things you mentioned.

  3. I spent the afternoon pub side today. Pretty smooth sailing, though people were grumbling that the imps had been steamrolling them earlier in the day. It was fun to play a couple of games with (and against) Eudoxia & Traesha. Like old times.

Shout-out to Kallose, who dropped a 30/2/0 line on me this afternoon, in (I think) a largely stock Quarrel. I will not take you lightly again, sir. Welcome to JC.

  4. It was me! You dirty pubs.

    ...

    ...

    :hope_01:

...and a wild Saevius appears. It would be hilarious if this offender was you, but somehow I think not.

I finally dragged a pub to 70, so I've been spending a lot more time on that side recently, collecting my Galactic Crapboxes. This does seem like the generally more downtrodden faction these days, but it's not so bad. I wouldn't say we have anything resembling a serious faction imbalance on JC. Both sides are occasionally guilty of the merciless 3-cap/spawn camping that everyone laments.

One quick shout-out to Nyyah, who is considerably better than I ever gave him (?) credit for. I've been in a number of matches over the past week where Nyyah was literally the only thing keeping the imps in the game, or represented the difference between a close match and a blowout. There aren't a lot of players who are capable of that kind of impact.

  5. Just to clarify, I bring up Strike fighters vs bombers is a strategy that mostly works.

I do that because a lot of times when a gs-thread pops up, people defend the gs and say if it didn't exist, then bombers would be overpowered which from my pov isn't true.

Strikes may need a boost but they can allready be a pain for bombers.

I don't doubt your experience Traesha, but I haven't seen a lot of strikes taking out bombers unless said bombers are particularly inept. The good ones (like you) will LoS around a sat, and only the help of teammates will afford a strike the time & window it needs to lock a protorp.

I'd be down for a no-GS night. One of the few theme nights I've never participated in. I already shudder at the inevitable bomber-stacking but I'd give it a shot. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

  6. Ugh, that's awful. I'rys was warning folks about a serial self-destructer a couple of nights ago; I guess it was the same guy. At least, I hope it was. Last thing we need is more than one of these tools.

I know "naming and shaming" is generally discouraged around here, but man, that kind of behavior (coupled with the comments in /ops) is completely indefensible.

  7. Truly great stuff. Breakdown# 3 was such an excellent match to dissect: there was a ton of quality material in there between the way the game developed, the sub-optimal team comp, the off-node attack, and a lot more. Viewers are even treated to a cameo (kameo?) by the King himself.

Run hydrospanner next time. Just for lulz.

  8. Shoutout to Graendhal for sticking with it in queue, and welcome back.

    ~ Eudoxia

Seconded. Bunch of interesting matches last night. Many of them felt a lot closer than the scoreboard suggested. Kinda felt like old times - loads of veterans, aside from the aforementioned Graendahl. Just off the top of my head: I'rys, BK, Dell, Oscar, Choque, Funkle, Hayward, Jutyai, Isalina, Gatorade, Artrigo, Tenebrious, Nameless, a new Kee alt...the list goes on.

Shout-out to Extolled, who's on his way up the learning curve and sticking with it in the face of some tough matchups.

Incidentally, Hayward mentioned the next GSF GC bonus day will be 12/27. If the last one was any indication, the queue will be popping like mad.

EDIT: so, either Mr. Hayward was incorrect or I somehow misinterpreted what he said. GSF bonus is today. It's a xmas eve miracle! Or Festivus miracle, if you prefer. Prepare for the Airing of Grievances, but save your Feats of Strength for the skies.

  9. An Interdiction Drive event! Slow-tacular, motion-free GSF!

I... feel bad for even having suggested this in jest. Please, nobody ever do that. Ever.

    - Despon

Join me next week for Sluggish New Year's! This will be a sedate affair; instead of welcoming 2017 with a bang, let's crawl our way there like tortoises. All interdiction-drive equipped ships are welcome. Bring your interdiction drones! Or your concussion missiles and ion rails with T5 slow upgrades! Enjoy the protracted slow-dance dogfights as we plod at a bovine pace around the map. Stack the slows: we'll impede one another until everyone's at a dead stop! Show up at your leisure. I'll probably be late, myself.

Obviously, not serious. I think the well is far from dry, though the further we stray from pedestrian ships/components, the less likely we'll see much participation. I mean, I'd be down for an all-Gladiator event (visually, this would blur the line between hilarious and horrific) but I'm pretty sure that would be tough to arrange. I do recall talk of an all-bomber event, which never materialized, probably because it sounds about as entertaining as eating glass.

Since the events have gotten as granular as components (RFLs & pods), there are literally dozens of remaining possibilities. For example, "Sabo Probe Sunday" or "Frequency Capacitor Friday".

  10. I had some fun matches. Thanks for organizing. Those endless dogfights in Kuat Mesas were a refreshing change from the usual sniper wars and bomber balls. Using RFLs really changes the flying style.

Here is a video of the 40-34 match:

Wow, all this time...I had no idea that was you. Still wondering who "Rapid-fire Lasers" was.

Yes, good matches last night. An entertaining change of pace. I stuck with RFLs through 9 matches, eventually coming to the realization that I can only be borderline effective with those things if I'm using sabo probes. Almost all of my kills were on sabotaged targets (and many of those were on non-participants, i.e. gunships & bombers). Laser Hose Sting (RFL/BO/freq cap) was fun but I'm not sure I ever actually killed anything with it.

Anyway, thanks to Eudoxia for organizing this.

  11. I agree that this is annoying. Now that we can send out 8 companions at lvl 66, I've gotten into the habit of constantly sending 6 out on all relevant gathering missions (2 x rich, 2 x bountiful, 2 x abundant)...then I still have a couple left to craft (if necessary), or run other mission skills. So it's not too taxing. Expensive, yes, but I end up with enough materials to do what I need.
  12. If you have the old schematics(purples) from 3.0 or back, then you can do well with implants.

Interesting. Bio is the one crew skill I don't really dabble in anymore, but I do have all of those old 3.0 (and earlier) implant schems. This isn't a niche I would have thought profitable (I'm not sure who's buying those), but I'll take a look. Thanks for the idea.

  13. It's been great to see all the GSF action since 5.0 dropped. This week, there were frequently 2 games going at once. Brings a tear to my eye.

    A few random shout-outs:

    - Taiyama - you seem to frequently suffer at the fickle hands of the matchmaker, yet always gut it out in impressive fashion

    - Klaxtor (and your army of alts) - welcome back, good sir

    - Anakhatis (pure luck if I spelled that right) - forget Harb, JC's where the action's at

    - Akrimark - the "new guy" ;)

And some rambling: it's nice seeing some familiar names I haven't run into in a while...for example, just from last night: Qhol-dun, Scaramannga, Hylo, Ceon, Linatabor. I guess this is part of the 5.0 influx. I think it's terrific that 5.0 gives GSF some legitimate value as a good source of CXP. The downside is that anyone relying on GSF for CXP probably isn't interested in alting around much. I still have yet to ding 70 myself*, but once I do I imagine I'm likely to bench a few of my guys for a while...and I don't even really PvE much anyway. Those that do have almost no incentive to swap toons, what with the staggering CXP grind. I foresee a lot of mastered ships facing GSF noobs. I guess I gotta hope matchmaker manages to put together some decent games, since it now has a slightly larger player pool to pull from.

Unfortunately, as we all know, that's a pipe dream. Matchmaker is a lie. In a perfect world, vets would police themselves, and not, say, run out six mastered bombers versus a squad of 2/3-shippers. Skill trumps gear in GSF, and vets will always dismantle noobs in any ship...but I suggest we at least make an attempt to minimize the pain. Pitting new pilots, in Novadives with RFLs, versus a couple of CP bombers - that, right there, is a recipe for epic frustration. Personally I've put some dumb ships on my bar, including a particularly stupid T1 scout with sabo probes and a T3 with no missile break. Not saying all vets should do that. I make a point of trying not to tell people how to have fun. All I ask is: please, just, you know...don't scare all the new folks away.

    * due to the insidious XP bug, I'm getting about 1000 XP per match, and only 200k XP from the last three chapters of KOTFE combined

  14. So since nothing seems to be RE'ing for armormech, i guess i should just use synth armor on my toons. Is that correct?

Re: the bolded - no, that isn't accurate. OP is stating that he can't RE certain augments. But that doesn't mean nothing can be RE'd. I don't do a lot with my armormech but I had no problem REing the blue 45 augs for the purples, and I sell quite a few of the latter.

tl;dr - depends entirely on what you intend to craft. if you want 45 absorb/shield/versatile augs then keep an armormech handy.

  15. I saw some people complaining about this today on Jedi Cov. Yes, I can confirm it is doing this.

    ~ Eudoxia

Yes, I get that it's happening. I'm trying to figure out if it's happening to everyone. If it is, then I want to know at what point the XP limitation begins to kick in.

  16. Especially since the drop rate for level ten purple mats seems to be nil. My level 50 comps have gotten one crit return in 200 missions now.

Pretty sure that's just bad luck, small sample size and all. I imagine no one's run enough slicing missions yet to say with any certainty whether or not the crit rate is screwy. FWIW, seems like the grade 10 purples have been dropping for me more or less as frequently as the grade 9's were.

Re: the OP - well, I guess I'll never have to bother running lockbox missions again.

  17. In lvling, you seem to reach a max amount of good xp before it drops down to around 1k for any further runs on GSF.

News to me. I haven't heard this, nor experienced it myself (though I've only played enough thus far to level one guy from 65 to 66).

Maybe it's a bug? I was flying with a guy last night who was only getting around 1k XP per match, but I think it had something to do with wearing the DvL XP armor. I'll ask him what the deal was there.

EDIT: I'm a dummy, I didn't realize OP was actually flying with me last night too (and thus witnessed the screwiness firsthand). Has anyone else hit an "XP wall"? I'm wondering if it's an isolated bug or if it impacts everyone.

  18. Thanks for putting this together Rose, it was fun. I logged on late, and only got the chance to roll out the Decimus a couple of times (the other matches were SERIOUS BIZNISS and I felt like I had to go meta in those) but it was still a pleasant change of pace. I spent one match actively pursuing Sledgehammers in my Bloodmark, trying to pop tensor in the vicinity of their drones and/or using my own interdiction drive. Purely in the interests of science. Sadly, it was not a successful endeavor. But like I said, overall fun stuff. I'll have to swing by Harb more often.

And good lord, you had a whole load of neat stuff to give away. Grats to the winners.

  19. Here are some of my other alts, so don't waste your guess on these: Ozwar, Xcal-srw/srw'i, Cyberian, Mortis, Bulette...

Ah crap, those were going to be my first guesses. Hidden in plain sight, or whatever.

Those are the servers I fly on 95% of the time these days, so I wager it's a name I'd recognize. Same name on all 3, right? Not a whole lot to go on here...barring a hail mary, I think we're going to need a clue.

  20. TBH it's "kronie" .... and speaking latin just sounds lame and the kronie's are not about that...

and tbh, the king is on a level so much higher than most of us that none of us can possibly suggest what he will "perhaps" do.

Apologies, thank you for the correction. "Kronie" it is. I will never make that error again.

And I'm truly sorry if I sounded lame. But I used no Latin in my post. If you're referring to gravitas, yes, that's actually English. TBH. From the Latin "gravis" I believe. Paging Eudoxia.

We have both learned something from one another today. I thank you for a truly illuminating exchange. TBH.

  21. I recall Siraka beating you. So 5/1 lifetime 1v1.

I am not a Krony nor do I carry the requisite gravitas to speak for the great Krix, but I imagine his response would be that the Siraka altercation was not an "official" 1v1 scout dogfight. Because, you know, Siraka wasn't actually in a scout. Semantics, I suppose.

Perhaps Krix would admit he's 0-1 in scout v strike dogfights.

    TBH.

  22. Sounds good, I'll be there.

If you do this event with anything other than BO/RFL/FC/SAB you are doing it wrong and missing out on one of the guilty pleasures of GSF.

    P.S. Bypass for your Copilot

The Laser Hose build is truly hilarious. Maybe Oscar will weigh in...he's been using it almost exclusively of late. I'll probably pull out a version of that for this event.
