  2. I agree.

     

    Saw someone tooling around on Fleet showing it off, thinking he was Joe Cool. Just about everyone commented that it was the dumbest looking thing they'd ever seen. It looks like a pod racer on crack.

     

    I don't get it. Most of the endgame armor (both pve and pvp) in this game looks ridiculous, and most of the mounts resemble some kind of Borg lawn mower. Seems like the designers have never actually seen a Star Wars movie.

     

     

    You know what they say about opinions right...

     

    Personally, I think it's cool. I don't even think the armor is that bad. That is my opinion.

  3. There is a kiosk type thing that sends you to the Black Hole as soon as you hit 50. (On the fleet.)

     

    I hit 50 well before I finished chapter 3 so I assume at least those are available.

     

    Can't speak to the others as I pretty much detest dailies.

    It is important to remember that reality is in the perception of the beholder.

     

    For instance, you see yourself as the person who delivers the truth and seem to revel in, and I quote, "bursting everyone out of their euphoric haze," while in reality, other people might see you as the guy who just enjoys taking a dump in the punch bowl.

     

    One of those guys gets invited to parties, the other...not-so-much.

  5. Let's be honest, here - most people like to advance their characters so that others, whether they be random people in the gameworld, guildmates, or real-life friends, can stand in awe of them. People like to compare achievements with each other, whether or not those achievements are physical or not.

     

    I've always said that the MMO genre is inherently not fun, from a gameplay perspective (and even if it is, that fun wears off soon). They are, at their core, about community. About playing with others, about comparing yourself to those around you - you cannot get that experience in a single-player game.

     

    If you are playing the game without a community, it is very easy to lose sight of the "point" of it all, since there simply isn't at that point. The trend in the genre to make these games more akin to single-player games (GW2 being a major offender) simply has me flabbergasted, as it is ultimately self-destructive.

    I'd also add that community is the one unique thing an MMO can do. There used to be a time when, if a product had something unique that couldn't be delivered via any other means, it was a no brainer. Accentuate the pretty parts and all that.

  6. Why am I incessantly running my bounty hunter bodyguard around, day in and day out, trying to gear him up with war hero gear. The grind to me is beginning to not make sense. I am spending countless hours in warzones,which I do enjoy, grinding away at commendations, and for what? I don't really see a light at the end of the tunnel. All I see is more pvp. Nothing to grind towards. You work so hard to get to the top, or at least close to it, just to..... Wait for it.....PVP In the same warzones. It's sad but when fully geared nothing really changes... Oh yeah, I got some better stats. I understand that there is a fun factor. I guess I am just losing the point of it all. Maybe I could use a reminder, or maybe this is just the reality of MMO's in general regardless of which one. Honestly I just bought guild wars 2 the other day and have begun to second guess even that one. while the mechanics may be different, especially from a pvp standpoint, I fear that too will be a wolf in sheep's clothing. Maybe I'm just getting a little bit old for this genre. I don't seem to be enjoying the time sink anymore.I Thoughts?

     

    I don't get it. My thought is, you don't really know what you want. Either you enjoy the time sink or you don't. You can't really have both.

  7. I suggest to go read my previous post. I don't get your reactions. Why would I lie? Why should I lie? This wouldn't make no sense at all for me to lie, I have absolutely nothing to gain with that. This is an estimated relative average loading time based on my personal experience. Again, MY average, not yours. If you PvP and/or if you keep travelling back and forth to planets, of course your average will be much higher than mine! You'd increase your relative occurence of PvP + Planets loading times, therefore increasing your relative average loading time!

     

    If you wish, I could do some more tests again. I could keep track of every loading time in one of my typical SWTOR sessions and I would show the numbers in the forum. I don't mind at all doing that. Again, in one of MY SWTOR sessions. I never said that for other players, their average couldn't be higher. I never said that my average was typical for most SWTOR players. Of course not!!! I only said that my average was 7 seconds (I should have said "was around 7 seconds"). Then, I did bring more precision in my next posts.

     

    P.S. It'd be very interesting if we could combine every relative average loading times of all the SWTOR players. I bet we would end up with a bell curve. In that bell curve, I'd probably be in the extreme left side (inside the 5%). At least, in the 10%. The players in the extreme right side (after 95%) would probably be players with a relative average loading times of 90-120s. It'd be so cool if M. Zoeller would show us some official loading times stats and graphics. :)

     

    No offense mate but could you just post some proof of this stuff so we can redirect this thread back to some feedback Bioware NEEDS to see.

     

    It would be nice to put this "My junk loads faster than your junk" business to bed so just provide screenshots or video to prove what you say and that way everybody can be satisfied, you can be vindicated and we can talk about what really matters...

     

    Load times are incredibly long for way too many people. Please work on these Bioware.

  8. I believe this should be, and probably is, a priority.

     

    They've done a decent job of listening to feedback and trying to get things in as fast as they can. I know it's sometimes not fast enough for some of us and I have grown impatient from time to time too but surely they are aware of how crushingly long some of those load times are for some of us and have some folks working on it...

  9. No offense but this is just another wall of text explaining what you think MMO's should be.

     

    None of those reasons have anything to do with the "stagnation" of the industry. In fact, the number of people playing MMO's is pretty steady. Your thread title is misleading.

     

    The MMO industry is unique in the sense that if your game is a "hit" people will invest many hours of their lives playing it and nothing else. This means that for a game to be a huge success, it has to bring people in from other games and hook them into actively playing and staying.

     

    Many of your points are valid but they are opinions.

     

    1. Get rid of sharding, have one single world

    2. Get rid of trinity, everyone is DPS OR invent new fun roles

    3. Get rid of static factionalism. Everyone is same faction with the ability to form their own rival groups or have dynamic factions.

    4. Get rid of levels and grinds. Introduce fun in the journey and forget about the destination. Introduce vanity, quality-of-life and title rewards for the achievement oriented players.

    5. Do all the above and the MMOG industry becomes less stagnant, more vibrant

    1. Sharding is not the demon people make it out to be. It can be used to great effect to allow many more people onto fewer clusters of servers and can, when done properly, lead to a game feeling more populated and alive. I like the thought of an open world too. It's why I play Eve online. Eve caps out around 32-36 thousand users logged on simultaneously in one world, they are not, however , all in the same zone. When large numbers of players hit one zone, it struggles.

     

    2. This getting rid of the trinity thing never works and it never will. It doesn't work because there are, believe it or not, a lot of people who only enjoy playing healers or tanks. It doesn't work because it is nearly impossible to design encounters that don't devolve into ping ponging a mob between dps until it dies. That's pretty much how every encounter goes with no trinity. Kill it before it kills you. There are people who enjoy this but it has been tried and it never produces the "success" that your post implies MMO's should attain by being rid of the trinity.

     

    3. Again, good idea but falls apart in the implementation. Been tried, fell flat. I won't say that somebody out there won't do it again and with some success. I would like to see more of this too but again, this is a personal taste issue. Many people enjoy having a known enemy and in a game like SWTOR, it is a necessity as the entire premise is a war between two factions.

     

    4. Again, I agree and would like to see more attempts at something along these lines but I have little faith that any current developer can do it in the current MMO climate. Games in general lean on this very heavily as a way for people to feel like they have "progressed" or have "improved" their character. I'm not saying it's impossible to provide this same feeling without levels, just that nobody has been able to do it with any success. MMO's in particular, need you to have a reason to keep logging on and a level "cap" provides this, for the first few weeks anyway.

     

    5. Various developers have done or are doing those things. Some of these games have decent little niche markets and are considered successful by many. I think EVE is one of the most successful MMO's ever created but I'm not comparing it to WoW and I think that is part of the problem with the premise of your entire post. Just because no other game has achieved WoW's success doesn't really make the rest of the industry "stagnant" or mean it has failed.

     

    6. Investors are the reason the types of games you lament the lack of rarely get made. In fact, your entire post could have just been one word in response to the title. Investors.

     

    Again, no offense, your post was intelligent and reasonable. Just wanted to provide a few counter-points.

    OP complains about nobody to play with.

    OP transfers servers and complains about a 20 minute que and not being able to use the group finder.

     

    OP gets help from a poster who could have just as easily told him to stuff it and read the known issues thread because the quests in the quest log thing has been known about since 1.3 launched.

     

    OP calls people fanboys and creates a pizza analogy I am still trying to figure out...

     

    I'd offer some advice myself but I don't want to be attacked.

  12. So, while on fleet, I can click that and it'll take me to a bind point near where I was last questing? Who knew!! OR, would I need to go to my ship, *loading*, go to the galaxy map, click the planet, travel to the planet, *loading*, run through the spaceport/orbital station and THEN use the "little white circle"? And then if I want to quest while waiting for another queue to pop, I have to do all of that again! And then again, and again! I think I'll just stick to questing until they fix it.

     

    Yup, you're right. You do actually have to fly back to the planet you were originally on. That is pretty lame. I seem to recall them saying they were working on having it drop you back where you were when you qued back in the first days of testing.

  13. The fact that the tool doesn't put you back on the planet you were questing will make this tool useless for people leveling up. They'll either have to run back to the planet over and over again or sit on fleet. There's no way people will just stay queued up while questing. Until Bioware fixes this issue, I don't see this tool being useful for sub 50s at all.
