  1. Now it occurs to me that I tried to fit the armoring pieces of the 50 level gear into a set of Cartel armor I had purchased, not Orange gear. I wonder if that's why it didn't work? Oh, and by the way, the auto-edit function obviously didn't appreciate the descriptive acronym I used for the level 50 Sorc gear. Just think of hooded characters dressed in white robes that have pointy tops and then you can imagine the acronym. The eleventh letter of the alphabet, written three times. That's what it looks like.
  2. If I remember correctly, it cost around 100,000 credits to yank out all the gear. It was a costly mistake for me to be sure. Had I known what I know now, I could have just tried each piece one at a time until it "fit", but instead I got frustrated and put it all back in the original gear. By the way, whoever designed that crazy looking Sorc gear must have gotten a good laugh out of all of us who had to wear it. As a matter of fact, since I just got back into the game, my Sorc still has it. It reminds me of a *** outfit.
  3. That may very well be where I went wrong. I was not aware of the chest piece to chest piece requirement. I pulled all mine out at one time and then tried placing it in armor I liked. It never occurred to me it had to be placed in the same armor piece, as that is unlike anything else in the game where armoring goes into whatever piece you decide to put it into. To be on the safe side and avoid losing too much, a guy could experiment by pulling out the armoring from one piece and replacing it in another, one at a time. This way, if it didn't work, he wouldn't lose the entire cost of removing all the pieces at once.
  4. Thanks for your reply. I think that clears things up on the questions I had asked. Regards Dubiousdude
  5. Prior to these latest rounds of updates with the new level 55 features, I tried removing my armoring, mods, etc ., from my gear and placing them in orange gear and it would not allow it. It cost me a small fortune to remove the armoring and all, then I could not use it elsewhere. Don't get me wrong, I trust you guys have actually done this, but I am more than a bit reluctant to try it again since the new updates. Have the new updates made this possible or has it always been doable? It certainly didn't work when I tried it. I hated the look of the gear provided at level 50 for my Sith Sorc, and that's the gear I was denied the use of the armoring, etc, on an orange set I liked.
  6. Hello I got away from the SWTOR game some six months or more ago and recently returned...to find that many things have changed and my existing characters/toons have had their talent trees reset so that all the points must be chosen again. I have three level 50 toons and am wondering: 1. Have my PVP and PVE armor stats changed? 2. Will I acquire a "pack" of new armor at level 55 for PVP and PVE similar to the way it was when level 50 was tops? 3. Is there a place to go to read up on the new changes rather than asking these type of questions here? Thanks for your time and hope I haven't been a pest.
  7. Maybe my bias comes from having played light side Pubs, but there is no way I can imagine playing a light side Sith. Just the condecending voice and seemingly phony words of my light side Jedi Consular have forever turned me from playing that role again, either with a Pub or a Sith. Dark side rules!
  8. I have five toons in my legacy so far. To this point, the Cybertech crafting skill seems to be the most useful as all character types need the armoring pieces. For this reason, two of my five toons are Cybertechs. HAving said that, the most frustrating crafting skill so far has been the Artifice skill. For some reason, maybe just random, dumb luck, it often takes dozens of greens reengineered to learn the blue schematics. Purples have come a little easier than blues, but my observation is purely anecdotal as I don't have the actual numbers. I have also noticed that it seems to be more profitable just selling the materials. In the case of puple hilts, I often have trouble just breaking even as far as value of materials VS the selling price of a purple hilt. This says nothing of the cost or time I incurred to learn the schematics. On the other hand, purple hilts are not available much of the time on GTN. Probably because it's not worth it to the crafter to craft and sell them. It's a catch 22 in a way if you want the purple hilts. Please note: I am speaking of hilts< lvl 50. I have no experience yet with lvl 50 hilts. One last frustration: has anyone else noticed that the alleged high crit level of certain team members don't seem to produce any more crit than a non-crit crew member? I have.
  9. Okay - i just got an email with the attachment for the Tionese commendations. It lagged behind the level 50 accomplishment by a few hours. Would I be making a mistake to choose tank gear at this point? I want to learn to tank, but don't have the know-how at this time. Looks like my two choices of gear are either for a tank or for damage; one being lopsided with edurance and the other lopsided with strength. I also noticed that the Tionese gear provided has higher specs than my current gear with the exception of absorb, defense, and shield. Is that where I need to add augments?
  10. I assume the Tionese commendations come at the end of the last class mission? I hit level 50 today, but still need to complete the last class mission. Nothing was rewarded when I hit level 50 as far as I can tell. I am part of a guild, but haven't learned much about using it as a resource yet. Wish I knew people who played the game, but I don't. My guild does use chat software and I bought a set of headphones/mic, but have yet to use them at this point. Your advice to participate with the guild is well taken. Thank you.
  11. I am closing in on level 50, at level 49 right now with a Sith Juggernaut. Hopefully, the decisions I have made thus far will not cause catostrophic problems later. For one, I have very little PvP experience this far, only around level 7 or 8. I have heard that as soon as you hit level 50, I'll get a set of recruit armor. Is this true? Do I have to buy it or is it provided as a reward? Will the recruit armor be used only in PvP, or will it work for both PvP as well as PvE? To get past the level 50 mission, Baras's Lair, I have bought the best purple armoring I could get for level 49. Even then, have not got past it yet. Very close, but no cigar. Will the purple armoring be used at all in PvP later on, or is it strictly for PvE? As you know, there's quite an investment in it and just wondered if it all goes to waste later on. I know there is level 50 armoring, so I assume I will want to upgrade later anyway. I have also heard I need to be at level 40 valor to receive the recruit gear. Is that true?
  12. Wow, very thorough and cogent reply. Thanks so much. Have never had anyone explain it so clearly before now.
  13. Using the site reference you provided, it states: Absorption (50%) = Shield (50%) > Defense (25%) >= Endurance > Strength >= Accuracy (110%) I don't understand the metrics. 50% of what, 25% of what, etc. ? Are the percentages intended to refer to the stat next to them. If so, how do I get 110% accuracy, as an example?
  14. Thanks - no doubt, I must do something to level up a bit more before further pursuit of the class missions. Next mission is level 40.
  15. Hello I am leveling a Sith Juggernaut right now, putting heavy emphasis on the immortal tree. The character is at level 35 and I just completed a level 39 class mission where the two boss Jedi Knights must be defeated at Hoth (can't recall the name of the quest). While the character seems to be working well for me right now, I am second guessing my exclusive use of Might Armoring and mods to this point. His health level seems rather low for a tank. Can anyone give me some pointers on which armoring and mods to use? I have looked up some guides online, but it's still not clear to me where or what stat points I should shoot for. Also, what other stats should I try to build? How much emphasis on defense, power, absorb, etc.? Thanks for any advice.
  16. Hi Everyone What a great thread. I am so glad to know there are other more seasoned players out there besides myself. I am 58, retired from a career in Public Utilities Operations Management; am a Father of six children with eight grandchildren. If you can believe it, am the only one in my family who plays these type of games. Everyone else is too "mature" for it. Old grand pappy is still an adventurous kid at heart. An old Marine at that, so this type of game makes me feel right at home and reliving out a past in a virtual environment. Tons of fun, but a daunting game to learn at my age. Being new to all this, would appreciate any advice and mentoring from any of you who are more experienced than I. Still trying to learn my way around the galaxy, you know? Regards, Dubiousdude
  17. At this point in the game I am at level 39 and having no trouble at all staying level just by completing the main mission quests. Being new to the game, just didn't know if missing some of the quests was something I will regret later on as a level 50 player. I read somewhere that social points play a big role later as level 50. Is that true? Maybe I'll start another character from scratch as part of the legacy deal. This way I can take advantage of what I've learned the first time around. Thanks for everyone's input and advice.
  18. I'm trying to be patient with learning this game as the flash points with a group tend to be so fast and chaotic, I don't hardly know what's going on. In spite of that, will take your advice and grind out the flash points in a waiting que. That's the only way I can group as being a rather older gentleman, people in my age group don't normally play games like these, so I have no friends that play. They're all doing shuffle board, dominos, canasta, sorting their socks or something like that
  19. I'm having trouble on my first try at leveling a character. When I go to a new world, I am finishing the missions sans the Heroic 4 missions. This is due to not being able (in a timely manner) to find a group to complete them with. When I level up, eventually the older Heroic 4 missions become gray. Should I go ahead and complete them anyway, or is it okay to abort or drop the mission? How do I gain Social Points? I read somewhere that the points can be gained just by conversing with a group. Is that true?
  20. Just for clarification, is there an official rotation for each class, or is it a subjective thing? As a Sentinel Watchman, I read somewhere the rotation should be: Charge-Leap, Overhead Saber, Zealous Strike, Cauterize, Master Strike, then Zen. It wasn't clear to me when I read it whether the writer was stating his opinion or preference, or if it was truly some official best rotation management practice. In practice, I have noticed that the buttons when used in that rotation order are generally available. The exception being Zen. For some reason, that particular button is not always lit up after the first four strikes. Another thing I read was the particular importance of using Force Stasis, a new talent for me at this stage. The complexity is what makes this game so interesting to me, though I am not at all certain of how all these things work together just yet. The centering, focus, and all that stuff.
  21. Wow, both of you have already given me an important tip. Was not aware I had to turn on the companion's skills. Will look at that right away, though I am sure there must be skills that are turned off, as I have turned none on. To answer the other questions, I am at the same skill level as Aldis, level 24. Have upgraded my weapons and armor with the highest grade components I could find thus far. Thanks!
  22. So, I am new to SWTOR and am a rather casual gamer. Have now reached level 24 after defeating the guy who looks like Darth Vader, then returned to my ship to learn of a new mission in which Valdis is the opponent. He whipped me royally three times so far. At this point, I recognize the need to take time to set up the keys on my keyboard to correspond to the sword blows and other actions. It's just taking too long to 'point and click' with the mouse. What's your opinion; should I set up the keys and continue to fight Valdis until I win, or should I set up the keys, go to a familiar world to practice on weaker enemies, then come back and fight Valdis? I just don't know if the game issues a penalty for leaving the scene once it's been committed. As I am sure you know, it can cost quite a bit to repair my weapons and buy more buffs each time I lose. I really have not come close to defeating him yet, but don't feel I possibly can with my current keyboard and mouse configuration. By the time I look for where to point and click, he's killed me.
  23. Never mind - I figured out how to find my server. Sorry about that.
  24. Thanks so much for your reply. Please forgive me for such a newbie question, but how do I learn what server I am playing on? One thing I have found a little tricky with this game is the difficulty in finding answers to what are probably common questions. Efficient tutorials built into the game could help a lot of the newbs such as myself. This is not meant to be a negative comment, just an observation. The complexity and detail in the game is superb. It's sure to keep my interest for a long time to come. Being and old retired phart, I have a lot of time to devote to the game.
  25. Hello everyone. I am new to gaming, but am enjoying the SWTOR experience very much, the learning curve notwithstanding. Recently, I was asked to join a guild and did so. However, after joining the guild, the game would no longer recognize my character as a paying member. Is this due to the fact that the guild was a non-paying member's guild? I figured out how to leave the guild and once I left, everything went back to normal as far as game recognition of my paid member status. I would like to be part of a guild for the learning experience as well as the opportunity to more readily take part in group mission endeavors. What is the best approach to finding a guild to join? Thanks in advance for your advice.
