  1. for·tu·itous adjective \fȯr-ˈtü-ə-təs, -ˈtyü-, fər-\ Definition of FORTUITOUS 1 : occurring by chance There's nothing about the name that implies a better chance. In fact, the name suggests the exact opposite. A "fortuitous" pack is, BY DEFINITION, a completely RANDOM one. P.S. I was hesitant to post this since I already did a "goodbye" post yesterday, but I do still have a day left on my sub and I couldn't resist; people confusing "fortuitous" and "fortunate" is a pet peeve of mine, along with the misuse of "literally."
  2. So this was my first experience with MMOs and it was a lot of fun. I was lured in by the Free-to-Play option and liked it enough to spend a bit of money and become a preferred player. Eventually, I was playing enough and enjoying it enough that I felt it was worth becoming a subscriber. After two months of subscribing and 7 months of playing, I'm ready to move on to another game (still haven't played Dishonored and I can't wait for Arkham Origins), though I'll probably hop back on every once-in-awhile. Before I leave though, I just wanted to thank everyone for a great experience, both in-game and on the forums (which became almost a mini-game of its own after awhile ). Andryah, I disagree with you a lot, but I'm genuinely glad you get as much enjoyment out of this game as you so clearly do--I admire your ability to enjoy the game for what it is. LordArtemis, I hope you continue to be a balanced voice of reason on these forums. Alec, I'm sorry to hear about hood-toggles, but I know you'll continue to fight the good fight--may the force be with you! Um... what else... I'd love to give you (yes, YOU!) my stuff, but it's already gone, so don't bother asking for it... death to the Cartel Market... anddd.... I think that's about it! Good hunting!
  3. Seriously, I'm really frustrated with people's responses to some recent issues. Criticism is only constructive if it's consistent. You don't get to both ask for more info about future plans AND call Bioware "liars" if those plans have to change. It's completely irrational to simultaneously demand that they wait to release things until they're bug-free AND get mad that they pushed a release back a couple days to get it right. You can be mad about ONE of them. That is reasonable and a matter of personal taste. But being mad about BOTH of them is just irrational. (For my part, I want the former in both of those cases and am perfectly willingly to accept the latter as potential consequences.)
  4. Seriously?! Eric gives a prompt, helpful response to the topic that this thread is actually about, and people immediately go complain about something else?! C'mon guys! Constructive criticism is one thing, but this is just unabashed trolling. We aren't going to see positive changes if every time the devs give us something people have asked for, in this case effective and specific communication, players fail to react positively.
  5. But it's not something for nothing. It's something for $15 a month.
  6. Excellent analogy! Now imagine you went to the store and gave them your coupon and asked for a box of M&M cookies and they told you, "sorry, we don't have any now and we're not sure when we will." And you said "But there's a stack of boxes right there!" and they said, "Oh, those? Yes, those are the M&M cookies that you have the coupon for, but the ones in that stack are only available for purchase. You can't use the coupon on those, even though it IS the product that your coupon is good for." You'd prolly be like "Huh???" Also, "W t f" gets censored?? Not the words, the abbreviation... who knew?
  7. fixed it for you Also, I was actually suggesting not that they give one of those pets to the CE Vendor too, but rather that they give one to the CE Vendor instead. While they're busy coming up with a bunch of new pets for the retail chains, they could have come up with one for people who bought the CE. And for the record, I am NOT a CE owner.
  8. Actually, I thought if you got vote-kicked you were then subsequently locked out of flashpoints for 12 minutes or something... so you're not just throwing them back in the groupfinder. assuming that's correct, of course. it may not be.
  9. One of those fancy new pets, to the CE vendor should have gone, hmm?
  10. Thanks for the reply, but why on earth is there no timeline for fixing this?! It should be as easy as typing in a new number for the level requirement! It seems a lot more likely that this was done as another way to force people to buy RoTHC...
  11. So it sounds like this is something that subscribers HAVE to spend extra money on? What happened to being able to save up cartel coins for things? This is disturbing news indeed! I guess it shouldn't surprise me that EAWare is conspiring with Walmart though. Both companies have ABYSMAL reputations. Check how this fun article on how Walmart LITERALLY bulldozed mexican cultural heritage sites, physically destroying priceless artifacts over a thousand years old! http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/18/business/walmart-bribes-teotihuacan.html?pagewanted=all
  12. This was definitely a huge disappointment for me. The way they were promoting it, I naturally assumed that they were planning to expand the trees "upward" instead of outward, and replete with new capstone skills. I even thought players might be given a fourth skill tree! That was my mistake, I guess--they never said anything explicitly to that effect and if I'd known Bioware then as I do now, I'd have realized they were over-hyping the expansion as usual, including the new skill trees. A couple "10% extra critical damage on Attack Q" abilities were quite the letdown. Also, expanding "outward" just makes for more skills that I don't want, but that I have to take in order to have enough points to be able to select from the next tier of the tree. Also, I think it is downright disgusting how they used the skill tree as another way to FORCE players to buy the expansion. As another poster pointed out, many of the new skills are for abilities that you can ONLY get if you buy the expansion.
  13. Also, for the love of the force, JUST BECAUSE IT SAYS SOMETHING IN AN EULA DOESN'T MAKE IT TRUE. You can't, for example, sign yourself into slavery. Even if you knowingly sign a contract that says that by signing it, you agree to enter into slavery, it doesn't matter because slavery is illegal. Companies use things like EULAs to make people THINK that they have forfeited their rights. But no company has the power to override the law. If the law prohibits false advertising, accepting the EULA does NOT preclude you from suing successfully. I'm not saying this IS necessarily false advertising (nor am I necessarily saying it isn't either), but if it WERE false advertising, the EULA would be completely irrelevant. Parking garages LOVE to do this sort of thing. They put a sign up that says "we are not responsible for any lost or stolen valuables stored in the car." Guess what, they ARE responsible. You can't absolve yourself of responsibility just by saying "I'm not responsible." If that were true, no one would ever be convicted of anything!
  14. IF YOU PAY $15 A MONTH, IT'S NOT FREE!!! If subscribers, and only subscribers, are getting something, then IT'S NOT FREE. They could start calling the operations "free" too, but that wouldn't make them free either.
  15. Heaven forbid you give people one free name change per server instead of one per character! That would be disastrous!! It is infuriating how diligent you guys are about preventing players from getting any extra benefits compared to how nonchalant you are about fixing problems that negatively affect players. When there was a bug that allowed people to get the priority transport: personal starship perk for fewer cartel coins (not even free, just fewer cartel coins), you guys fixed it almost immediately, and actually went to the trouble of revoking the perk for people who had already purchased it. When there's a bug such as [take your pick; there are loads. I'll go with players not getting credit for achievements, cause that's a pretty easy one to fix and it should be handled by the same team that handles perks, since they're both legacy related.] you guys take your sweet time. You guys are putting an unprecedented amount of time and attention into making sure that there is absolutely no way for anyone to get more than one free, bind-on-pickup, one-time use consumable character rename. You had no problem, for example, filling the cartel market with items that were incorrectly labeled as account-wide, but made certain that there weren't any account-wide items that were inadvertently labeled as single-character unlocks. Maybe there's a reasonable explanation for all of this. If there is, I'd sure love to hear it. Y'know, in the spirit of communication.
  16. Possibly the single most annoying behavior in all of PvP. When you stand there "capping" a 1-person objective (UNLIKE the nodes in novare coast) that someone else is already capping, you are effectively stunning yourself--seriously, for all intents and purposes, you might as well be stunned.
  17. That assertion ironically lacks evidence... (and, as another poster pointed out, it is also egregiously misattributed.)
  18. /amen Eric, I appreciate the effort--and I will also say that, going back through the dev tracker, there were a lot more posts that made me go "wow, great job!" than I expected--but it doesn't really help to justify the lack of communication regarding future updates by saying that it's still better than what we used to do!' As I mentioned in an earlier post, I'm sure there must be a legitimate reason why you can't tell us, but it would really help if you told us what that reason is!! At the risk of being hypocritical, because I always leave assignments until the last minute, it almost feels like you guys wait to start the updates until the night before they're due (so to speak )--I mean, why else would you not have an excellent idea of what will be in the update? aren't people working on specific aspects of it right now? Heck, forget 2.4; isn't someone working on 2.3? It seems like you should be able just go drop by one of your colleague's cubicles and ask him/her "hey, what are you working on?" and have him/her say "hey eric, buddy, I'm working on a cool new ability for each of the advanced class. I don't know the exact details yet, but I'm thinking I want it to be a defensive ability for dps classes and a damage dealing ability for healing classes. Don't know about tanks yet." Then you could come to us and say something like "hey everyone, for 2.3, we're working on giving classes each a new ability. we don't know for sure what it'll be yet, but right now it's looking like a defensive ability for dps classes, a damage dealing ability for healers, and no word yet on tanks." And we'd say, "awesome eric! can't wait to see what new abilities we get!" But you obviously can't do that, or you would. What I don't understand is why you can't do that. I mean, clearly there must be something I'm missing here.... TLDR: Eric, I appreciate the effort--and I will also say that, going back through the dev tracker, there were a lot more posts that made me go "wow, great job!" than I expected--but it doesn't really help to justify the lack of communication regarding future updates by saying that it's 'still better than what we used to do!' 19. Yes, that does help!! thank you! THESE are EXACTLY the types of posts were asking for more of! Seriously, that's all a lot of us want--just some friendly acknowledgement that you've read our posts. It's that easy. And these types of posts make it apparent to me that you're listening to concerns about communication; it's great that you're making a concerted effort to improve and I really appreciate it.
  20. How is that not exploitable?! You could fail to fire against an enemy, who might then get so confused by your apparent failure to do anything except sit there stupidly that he or she just spontaneously surrenders!
  21. skip to 00:23 and watch until 1:22. If you still don't get it, you're prolly not going to.
