  1. Use the gear preview function while browsing the GTN until you find one you like.
This, but you can also browse stuff that isn't on the GTN right now here. You can get an idea from the icons then look for screenshots afterwards. I think I use the orange version of the Traditional Nylite Sash... but I also think it is different (and better) for Imperials.
  2. With the holidays coming, you can probably buy something off the shelf and get a good deal. While I personally like Intel and nVidia, you can get more bang for the buck if you look at AMD and Radeon. Something like this:

Everyone's definition of a gaming PC is different. Important thing is stick to your budget, and don't be put off by people who will tell you can't game without spending a lot more money on a more powerful rig. Name brand, off the shelf units will have reviews in Amazon, tomshardware, etc. or notebookreview if you go that route. Newegg does ship to the UK, but I'm not sure if it will be cost effective for you. Retailer doesn't matter as much as rig. I know, common sense, right? So find one that suits you and then figure out who is selling it.

  3. I don't know about need, but I'd like to see a sandbox world filled with optional (not necessary and not linear) encounters and quests. Encourage more exploration and up the challenge level by not putting in the quest map markers for these side quests. Just for laughs set it out beyond the outer rim on a planet where day to day survival is more important than taking sides in the Empire/Republic conflict and misfits and castoffs from both factions can be found there.
  4. I can understand why lag and FPS slowdowns are so frustrating. Could very well be a Bioware problem and probably is. This is just an humble suggestion to those who want to escalate a complaint to BW. In game, check your lag number by hovering over the signal bars next to your minimap. Outside the game, you can open a cmd window and run Ping and Tracert commands to the SWTOR servers. You can find them at :

    • East Coast server: 159.153.92.28
    • West Coast server: 159.153.68.252
    • European server: 159.153.72.252

In fact they have a thread still going on this topic over here.

  5. Windows 8 sucks anyways.
Well, you make a very good argument. The again, after forcing myself to use it for a few days I'm beginning to appreciate that it's faster and leaner for everyday tasks. SWTOR runs so smoothly I wish they offered the option of an HD texture pack. I've got FPS to burn even at max settings.
  6. There isn't enough info here for someone to take a swag at the perfect fix. It's likely something you need (GPU, chipset, SATA controller...) is running off of drivers that aren't 100% compatible. I can only suggest you look at two things: go get the latest drivers, and 2, look at your event log for any errors that were logged at the exact time the game failed to launch. Paste the error ID and description into google and 9 times out of 10 you will find info from people who have had the same problem. You may also want to 'repair' your SWTOR installation.
  7. I feel bad for Bioware. They have some of the most irrational, self entitled customers on the planet. "What, you gave me a free month? OKTHNX, but I also want Cartel coins like I had paid for that month... and no, I don't want to buy them with some of the money you saved me!"

They must be scratching their heads wondering how to turn a profit and save the jobs of the remaining team when it all depends on making satisfied customers out of craven lunatics.

  8. SWTOR can run just as well or better under Windows 8. It is entirely depends upon whether you can get completely up to date drivers for your specific rig, or at the very least Win 7 drivers that work without issues. For that reason, it doesn't matter how many people tell you yes it works, or no it doesn't, because it's unlikely that any of them have your exact rig. Check forums and driver download pages for your equipment. It's whether others have successfully gone to Windows 8 with your make/model/configuration that really counts.
  9. How the hell can the game be worse for those who are free to play? It's something, however limited, for nothing. Don't want those limits? Cool. Then be a paying subscriber. Don't think it's worth it? OK. Go pay for something you like better. Seems the only things that could possibly make you happy are an unlimited free experience, or BW reinventing the entire game to be more to your liking. You are not really a serious customer, because you don't allow any realistic upside for the supplier. Since there is no way to take you seriously, BW simply won't. Have you sent in your rage-quit email yet?
  10. If $15 is to much, You might not want to look into a game as a time dump, but maybe find a new job or do something past living as a low life. Don't say I'm wrong, If its that big a deal, don't play. That easy.
I don’t know if you are trolling, or are just living up to the old adage, “On the internet, we are all toughguys.”

The OP has some serious misconceptions about what F2P means. Maybe I’m just crazy this way, but I think it’s more productive to explain it to him go for ad hominem attacks.

  11. A direct question - what is EA's roadmap for this game ?.

EA spoke up loud in clear in July: “Disappointing performance of Star Wars: The Old Republic was offset by powerful performance of Battlefield 3.” “Star Wars is the primary driver for adjusted guidance to a lower number.” “Our diversity allows us to make up for a miss on one franchise (SWTOR) with a hit on another (BF3).” One of the last things EA said to investors during that quarter’s investor call was to give a brief rundown of their F2P strategy. Next report for EA is end of Oct. and there will be nothing new to say other than they are banking on F2P to turn things around. The months of Nov., Dec., and Jan. SWTOR is probably fighting for its life. That’s the roadmap. [note: this is all public info. EA is a public company and I don’t have any insider info!]

BW may be subject to some criticism, but I for one would not want to see BW, the company responsible for the Baldur’s Gate, KOTOR, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age learn some hard-knocks lesson about the viability of ambitious PC games in the console age. So yeah, some may be disgruntled because they can’t play a pink Ewok while wearing Revan’s pajamas, but no one should really want SWTOR to fail, even if they hate it, even if they gave up playing it long ago. As a PC, RPG, SW, and MMO fan I see a lot on the line here. YMMV.
