  1. posting something like this a week in advance is poor marketing strategy. Ideally, they would want to post this an hour before. Certainly no more than 2-3 hours.

Unless of course the goal was to incentivize people to become subscribers in hope of some awesome rewards.

In which case they would definitely want to give people time to do so.

  2. Having to play another class or skillset is not really a solution, is it? If a certain class was broken beyond redemption, you wouldn't tell me to just roll another char, would you? ;) You'd want that class to be fixed.

No, but that's not really an accurate comparison. The class isn't broken.

It'd be more like if you leveled a Jedi Consular, but then found out that you hated the particle effects for Disturbance; to which I absolutely WOULD reply, then play something else. YOU not liking the sfx or gfx for a particular ability/proc doesn't mean they should change it. I'm certain there are a great many ability sounds that people don't like, but they're not going to waste the effort to go through and let us cherry pick whether we hear each individual one, and they're not going to give ONE group of people the option to disable a sound they don't like and not another group. None of us are special little snowflakes.

I'm sorry that your enjoyment of a character has been ruined or lessened, but it is what it is.

  3. Agreed on us needing a male force using romancable companion.

Though for those just wanting a male force using apprentice, I fail to see how Xalek doesn't count. :p I fail to see how BT2 is scrawny :p And I find it funny that no one mentions BT4 except for in saying "No don't want that at all" That's just not PC :p

Probably because you don't even get him till the Class stories are essentially over(~level 45ish), and his personal quest so short if you blink you miss it, having little if anything at all to do with any kind of training or apprenticeship.

BT2 is not scrawny, but given that video games generally deal in the idealized form* it is "small." Also, almost all male companions (let alone romanceable male companions) are already BT2. Variety.

*More so the case for depictions of women. Notice that even the heaviest female model is still relatively shapely compared to the male.

  4. thats the point though. this isnt pokemon and the motto isnt "gotta catch em all" the method of recruiting someone differs, albeit differently, from companion to companion. if you dont feel like putting forth the effort, then simply dont. i applaud them on having at least one companion ask you to do an unfavorable thing, be it pve or pvp. in fact i wish they took a bolder stance and made more of them this way.

what i hope they sincerly do not do is cave to people complaining about it. nobody wants to put forth any sort of effort, or perform an activity that is undesirable to them, because they simply dont "like it" i dont particularly care for pve, and as such qyzen is still sitting at 0. i dont think its bad design or poor quality, i just choose not to recruit that companion.

i apologize if i come off as harsh. it just bugs me when devs of mmos cave in to a vocal section of the population.

That would be fine and dandy, IMO, if that was all that it was. There are tons of companions I have no desire to recruit, and so wouldn't even bother with. Except that they're using recruitment mission completion as a gate for recruiting OTHER companions. So if for instance you wanted to get Lokin back on your Agent, you MUST complete Qyzen's quest.

My one concern is that going forward, in order to get new recruitment alerts, you'll have to finish recruiting all the others, which does not appeal to me at all. I hope they don't do that.

To an extent this is already the case. You MUST complete Yuun's mission to unlock further recruitment missions, you MUST complete Qyzen's mission to move on to Lokin.

Indications are that this is how the system will continue to function moving forward.

  5. Gotta agree with Jaesa, Nadia, Kaliyo and Quinn. Man, Quinn and Kaliyo wouldn't even be on my ship if I had the choice.

Notice how this list is HEAVILY skewed towards Male Character+Female companion.

Actually, the only romance I've ever done -intentionally. No seriously Risha, go away. I flirted with you ONE TIME and only because my options were [Flirt], [Flirt], and [be a d***]- is Theron Shan.

  6. This is like saying "having sales isn't fair to people who paid full price".

Sad fact of the matter is there are a LOT of people who do get upset when there's a sale on things they already paid full price for. The more recently that was, the worse it tends to be.

Anyone who's ever worked retail can attest to this.

  7. When he is your active comp, preview gear on yourself, then click the companion tab/arrow on the preview screen, then have a peek!

Do note, however, that he reuses the same face as another notable NPC, and I believe there's some lore/codex entry somewhere that states that his actual face has been greatly affected by dark side corruption. Apparently just showing it to some officer who displeased him drove said officer to kill themselves.

So while you CAN see the face that his model uses, that's not likely to be what he's actually SUPPOSED to look like.

  8. I fully support romanceable male force users for all!

I'd like mine Human, Cyborg with minimalist implants, Sith PB (Face 3 only), Cathar (Face 1, Pattern 6 preferred) or even Togruta (but only NPC Togruta. player male Togruta montrals/lekku are fugly:mad:). I'll even be the odd man out and say Nikto (that speak basic) are cool too. (Wish I could have taken Jory as my first BH companion, though I like Mako well enough.)

Body type 3 Please. I like em big n strong. :p

    SGR-able

Snarky, sarcastic, funny and/or playful. Not interested in some boring Light Jedi droning on at me about how my flirting with him is against the Code or something.

Likewise, no crazy murder eyes/inevitable betrayal. Sorry Dark Sith, I've got no interest in wondering if my bedmate's plotting to kill me in the morning.

I'd prefer a caster (Sage/Sorcerer/Something) honestly. Literally ALL of the force using companions we have are melee for tank/dps. How about a little variety?

Imp, Pub or otherwise, doesn't matter really.

  9. <<given the Empire's rather rampant pro-human/anti-alien attitude>>

Obviously Sith purebloods are NOT considered "aliens" by the Empire.:D

Well, no. Sith and Humans share the upper echelons of Imperial society. I was really more commenting on how backwards the racial representations of the two factions seemed compared as a whole against each other.

The notoriously Anti-alien state has 3 aliens out of 4, where the far more Pro-alien state has absolutely none.

Perhaps the wording of my first comment was poorly chosen, drawing attention more towards the Empire's lack human representation where I meant more to emphasize the Republic's lack of non-humans.

  10. The isotope-5 droid at the end of Imperial Makeb, definitely. He used to pull you all the way to the back of the room and then stick a slow on you, right before shooting that Laser of Death. I swear, this would happen every 20 seconds. I went back and did the quest recently again on another character and I don't think I got pulled to the back of the room even once. Maybe they took that out or made it much more infrequent? Anyway, my poor little healing operative in 126 rated gear died so many times on that droid. I finally beat him after a 25 minute long fight where I ran around slicing him up with my tiny paper cuts and healing myself like mad until he eventually died.

    Ah yes, the Isotope-5 droids.

I never had an issue with the last droid Imp side (the one with the Hutt riding inside), It was always the one in the volcano base (with the gangways and the consoles you had to click to activate turrets and such) that gave me trouble. I don't remember the Imp side final droid having the insta-death ray, only republic side. I ALWAYS die at least once to the final Rep side droid. Admittedly it's been a long time since I bothered to finish Makeb, rather than ding 55 and move on to SOR.

I had a really hard time with the Emperor on my JK until I figured out which spell he was one shotting me with (which I will sadly confess took me a few deaths). :o

  11. I suppose for my main 8 I'm played against type, as none of my 8 exactly match the type portrayed in the description of the class given by the codex in the KOTFE beginning <each gets their own description - "the republic trooper, the Jedi Knight, etc.> I am making 1 assumption about the characters portrayed - that the characters that look human are not cyborg, as I see no obvious implants. Anyway picture vs my char:

    For the empire:

SI picture = female twillik, I play male sith pureblood

SW picture = male sith pureblood, I play female Zabrak

IA picture = male chiss, I play female chiss <only race that we match!>

BH picture = female rattataki, I play female cyborg.

    and for republic:

JK picture = female human, I play female Miralin

JC picture = male human, I play male Zabrak

SM picture = male human, I play male Twillik

RT picture = female human, I play female cyborg.

Although I do have other alts, these are the ones I play with some regularity.

Rather off-topic, but it strikes me as ironic that none of the 4 Imperial class pictures are Human, and ALL 4 Republic class pictures are Human, given the Empire's rather rampant pro-human/anti-alien attitude vs the Republic's far more inclusive one.

  12. Anyway, would like option to give Theron different boots. So + for this anyway, I'll just skip the bikini myself

I want to put him in the B-100 cybernetic boots, cause as much as he got beat up just in SOR, there's no way he went 5 years without something horrible and disfiguring happening and those boots are just about the only Cybernetic gear piece that I actually like the look of.. :p

    EDIT:

Their outfits are probably fixed due to the fact they feature in cutscenes heavily.

I think I also read that they are non-standard models, so the gear designed for players & older companions wouldn't fit them anyway.

See, I don't really buy in to that, because companions have always featured rather heavily in cutscenes (some more so than others) and with the exception of those with non-standard models (Khem, Blizz, droids) we've always be able to modify their appearance with gear.

  13. In terms of swtor solo-mode, I would also vote for Avatar of Sel-Makor. Its not the same now though.

In terms of all mmos ever, I guess it would be pre-nerf Hamidon in city of heroes :p

TBH sounds like the issue is that youre primarily a healer? A well geared dps with a healing companion should pull this off decently easy.

I've tried it spec'd as both Lightning and Corruption... but my Scorpio is rank 30, so if 15-22 is optimal then that might be part of the problem.

I could also simply suck at it. :p

Also YAY City of Heroes! That's the origin of my handle. @Oathbound was my global in City of *

  14. It was the Avatar of Sel-Makor, wasn't it? :)

I remember him. Repeatedly cast hard-hitting abilities like Death Field, Thundering Blast, and could use Power of the Force like Revan. Guy was a pain for me as well.

Yeah that's the name that pops into my head, I just wasn't certain I was remembering it correctly... It been a few years.

  15. Way back in the day, There was a boss on Voss, somehow related to the Sel-makor storyline that kept handing me my ***. This was back on my first character (Sorcerer) so I really wasn't very good at the game yet anyhow.

Somewhat more recently, the final JK story mission on Belsavis. (You have a bunch of Republic npcs helping you fight a bunch of Imp mobs.) It would start out just fine, then Doc's healing would pull all the agro and the mobs would just focus him down, then turn on me. Finally i just hid around a corner and let the NPCs kill each other.

Most recently, the H2+ Star Fortress Exarch. I've been trying to solo it just to see if I can. I've gotten all the way to the last fight but I just can't beat him. (Using my Sorcerer and a rank30 SCORPIO.) If I try a split Heal/DPS or DPS/Heal then I (or SCORPIO) just can't maintain enough HPS to stay alive, but going Heal/Heal I simply can't put out enough damage to kill him.

I think the lowest I got him was like 70%... which took a good 20 minutes with heal/heal.

  16. If a pureblood were to conceive a child with a human, is there a chance it could look exactly like a human, or would it be different in any way?

Would it have red hair, skin, or other pureblood features? Or would it look completely like a pureblood?

I suppose that would depend on just how Sith your Sith is.

Sith Purebloods are by no means pure blooded. They're all a mix of Original Sith and Human. "Pureblood" is a rather meaningless distinction given to those with a "higher than average" amount of Original Sith blood, and possessed of classic Sith features.

We don't know exactly what degree of Original Sith blood a person needs in order to display Sith features, so really it's entirely up to you whether you'd want your character/child/whatever to look Sith or Human.

  17. HK-55, Theron, Rokus.

I haven't really bothered to collect all the new companions yet cause I've just been running my characters through chapters1-9 before I work on the alliance system much.

I like Rokus cause I think Gormak are kinda cool looking. Also he sets aside generations of hatred, and personal loss at your own hands to support a greater cause. That's a very powerful and meaningful thing to do.

  18. Nope. The Voss have force visions like Jedi or Sith - they're using the same Force, after all.

"Always in motion, is the future."

What the Voss do is use interpreters, which gives them a very convenient excuse: If a 'vision' fails to come to pass, then it's blamed on bad interpretation.

Not to mention how vague those interpretations can be.

"An outsider will end the Gormak Threat."

What does that mean? An outsider will destroy the Gormak? An outsider will forge peace with the Gormak? An outside will advance the Voss to a place where the Gormak are no challenge to them?

    Nope:

Turns out the Gormak were Voss all along, and as such while they still pose a threat, they are no longer "Gormak."

  19. Honestly this is nothing new.

Sure most of the time you're offered a third option but not always, and there's no guarantee that the two options available make any sense for your character.

    Example:

Republic Tatooine story arc. (The thing that Czerka found, iirc).

Your options are 1) Destroy the Rakata tech [Light side] OR 2) let the guy who's been trying to KILL YOU the entire time you've been on the planet take it and be on his merry way [dark side].

***? No really. W. T. F. is that Dark side option.

Where's the option to kill that ******* and keep the tech for myself?

Obviously the game couldn't let you have it, but that's simple enough to solve. Just have it get "damaged" during the fight with whatshisface.

This is the only Light Side choice my dark JK ever made, because the dark side option is just astoundingly, mind numbingly stupid.

  20. So Thana Vesh is a completely incompetent shrew and tries to kill you and people ask to have her as a companion. Koth disagrees with you and people want to throw him out of the airlock.

He is very naive and ignorant of what the emperor has done. As it's been said, if you lived in a country where the ruler has been good to your people, and some foreigner comes along and tells you he's done horrible things you would have a hard time believing them. I have a feeling Koth will learn his lesson as the story develops in future chapters, and he'll see Valkorion's true nature (at least I hope he will).

You seem to assume that the people who want Thana as a companion are the same people who want to kill Koth.

I hated Thana and was pleased as punch to end her. As the story stands now, I also dislike Koth (and Lana) and will be just as happy to put a blaster bolt through his (and her) face.

The thing that angers players with Koth is that he belittles your people's lives and you can't get a 3. [shock him] option.

UGH. Yes. He a little **** and YOU CAN'T EVEN DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. If I could just [shock] him, I'd honestly like him a lot more. It's the same problem I have with Pierce during his story. If you don't agree with his actions, he gives you attitude and you can't put him in his damned place.

  21. o.O Scourge is soooo ugly. To hear people think the Sith an SI could romance is ugly, but hear Scourge is hot, baffles me :p But then, I don't think any Purebloods are attractive :p

I think Scourge is alright looking.

He uses Pureblood face #5, which I normally don't like, but Scourge had jewelry on his little tendrils which makes them look a heck of a lot less weird, imo. (An option not available to player Sith PBs.)

The only Sith Pureblood face I actually like is face #3 on body type #3 with hair #17... which is why ALL of my Purebloods look like they came out of the same cloning factory. :o

On topic, I fully support Romanceable male force users. Particularly those romanceable by either/both genders.

Right now all my characters romance Theron Shan, cause my only other option is Koth, who -on top of cheerleading a mass murderer- is just not all that attractive IMO.

  22. I'll be on of those people who never get 4X or Pierce except on their corresponding classes. I'm bad at PvP and I simply don't enjoy it and I absolutely refuse to be "one of those people" who just afk a warzone off in the corner somewhere. That just spoils more people's fun than my own when they're left to carry my weight.

If there is future content that REQUIRES these companion's alerts be done, then there really needs to be a way to complete without reward.

Frankly I'd complete Pierce without reward anyhow, I hate him.

  23. I would just point out that apparently the Scion's visions weren't enough to prevent the slaughter of hundreds/thousands of them at the hands of the Zakuul Knights.

Either they didn't see that coming, or they allowed it to happen just so that they could demand retribution and/or whine b**** and complain about it afterwards.

Edit: Nor apparently, where their visions enough to prevent Arcann/You with Arcann's help from "killing" Valkorion.

  24. I'm hoping Bioware gives us a chance to kill him off. He's annoying.

Huh, interesting how different your opinion is to my own. Personally, I dislike Koth and want to boot him out/kill him at my earliest chance. He comes across as extremely self centered -- his previous desertion and the way he whines at you unless things go exactly the way he wants them to go are a big red flag to me. I'm 100% sure the guy would have no qualms about betraying my character as soon as he feels like his personal agenda isn't going to be furthered as much as he'd hoped. Another warning sign is the fact that he's completely indifferent to valkorion's crimes in the rest of the galaxy -- he just wants the cushy life he had when valkorion was emperor.

I'll throw my hat in on this side of the debate.

When I took my light side Sorcerer through, Koth was decent enough, even if we very much disagreed in our opinions of Valkorian.

On my more dark leaning, easy-way-out Gunslinger though, Koth comes across as very whiny and somewhat hypocritical. Here he is chastising me for not saving a few thousand people, who I wasn't even responsible for putting in danger in the first place, while still chearleading a global scale mass murderer.

I get that he's only ever seen the "good" Valkorian, and that it can be hard to accept being told about his "bad" acts, having not seen them for himself... but he doesn't even seem to give any weight or consideration for what his allies, who he supposedly trusts, are telling him. "He's always been good to Zakuul." As if that's the only thing that matters.

He seems willfully ignorant of Valkorian-as-Vitiate.
