  1. I've always said, and this is one thing SWG got very right in the end, that no matter how much content, story, crafting, and other micro content as I consider it as a game, what keeps a player on at max level is the -macro- content. Now, some say that this is endgame content. Yes and no, it is important to have micro endgame content yes, dungeons, heroics, whatever they can think of. But the -overall- most important thing in any great online game experience is the -metagame-. That is, an Empire and a Republic that are aciively facing eachother, and missions for each side, whether PVE or PVP, that actually -matter- and effect the galaxy. This is way way more important than a few quests. And I'm reminded of the Magic game user that plays the game not for it's content but for the gameplay in itself. I am not saying we get rid of the voiceover's and microcontent because that is an important door to the game. But I do believe a truly -great- game is a game that focuses on the metagame and the war as separate entities. I know it's early in the game's developement, but I believe in the future this will be a very important direction to take to determine whether the game itself dies or get''s bigger. Admiral Awockire
  2. Wow one thing I'd like to say..... bringing up the biodiversity hmmmmmms... biodiversity is good in this game.... and so, once again like always... this could lead to a true animal pet system with combat pets someday. The more we have the better! Admiral Awockire of the Rebellion (3000 years early)
  3. Firstly, I'm playing this game as Jedi Knight and enjoying it a lot. The story portion of the entire game is great, as is the entire companion system, always looking for better gear for them on the various planets. The detailed acting and voiceovers are also very good, and it could be argued that this kind of thing could only happen in a smaller story type game like this. While voice-over acting and truly epic battles are an important part of an MMO and do set this game apart, it also creates some problems, of which most are fixable over time. I'll be honest my philosophy on game developement is something close to Raph Koster's, in which classes and people have to rely on eachother to help complete goals. That was the first part of SWG that was good. Morphing into the NGE, the voiceovers on the first part was good. Comparing with this game, this is like a much longer, better acted version of that. That being said, there are parts of this game model that worry me in a way. Mostly, because -all- of the content needs to be acted out and that means big budgeted high cost developement over great lengths of time, in the long run this could hurt SwTor if the need for playerbased goals and content does not keep pace with the players need for that content. So then, what I would like to advocate for on this front is a mix of both play styles; most of it being small story based gameplay, and some bigger more open ended gameplay. While I know this game will never be completely open ended, it could mask as it for some of the most important parts of that. That being the war. I believe that there should be developed a metagame, including both PVE and PVP, that focuses on the war between the Empire and the Republic. After all, 300 years after KoToR things are really heating up on that front. The metagame is an important function to any game because it gives reasons to log in and do endgame content past any level cap. Some might call a metagame the same thing as a endgame, but it is farther reaching that simply something to do after leveling is completed. Instead, having a metagame with the war would ideally involve the planets, blockades, economics, and other game systems. Now, I am not saying this needs to turn into an open ended MMO and lose the vision and focus of the well acted deep driven story. However, a secondary system that compliments through metagame the beautifully done story might help the overall game experience, and add more to the game than currently is in it. I look forward to all of your comments, and have been a huge SW fan forever. I came from SWG where I played nearly all 9 years until the announcment it was closing so I really want this game to succeed. Admiral Awockire
  4. Hi all. I'm originally from well.... a different SW MMO you probably know the one. And there one of my favorite game systems was creature handler / Beastmaster. I realize on this game it's might be too early to discuss such things, but given the companion system and how cool that is, I think it might be fun to have a companion system where they would show interaction with the person and pet. This game seems to support acting very well, so it might work. Also i haven't seen any threads on this. But now that I'm subscribing and all I'd like to be an advocate for such a system to be put in place. I know some might say that the companion system really -is- a pet system, and yes I can see that view. However what I mean is well the like of rancors (Tons of resouces, pay, whichever), and it doesn't have to be a rancor to start those are just the most known SW pets so I used them as an example. I also notice that the game is very biodiverse on the planets so could easily support such a game system, and might even make some of the players coming from that other game more comfortable. I look forward to all of your comments. I can understand the view some have that it's all about Jedi or the other classes... and then there's the whole question about open vs closed world. Still, I'd like to know what some people would think and if support could be drummed up. The 2 options, and there might be more, for such a system are either taming, which is probably easier to code, or created bioengineered critters. I like the latter, but there is room for both depending on how the developers feel. I've always felt to me the whole pet creation was a big plus in any SW game, and look forward to all of your comments. Admiral Awockire
