  1. I tried this and there seem to be a difference in the 'disk installed' launch and the 'trial' install launcher.

The "disk installed" launcher didn't have the "Enter bnet email address OR trial account name" on the login screen, just the enter email address, where the 'trial installer' did have both options, Although the "trial install" still downloads the entire 21GB game.

(my disk install is from release day)

That's fine. You need to update the launcher as well. In order to update, you might need to log in with your account. Once updated, the clients will be identical.

  2. If one knows in advance not to spend ones money on anything it's probably fine, but that's kind of my complaint. Why do devs think that annoying their customers or boring them with pointless long slow trips is the right way to encourage them to stay.

Because a once successful game charged you 100 gold to mount up at level 40 ( instead of 25 ) which was a huge chore to obtain and you had no idea it was even possible if you were a newbie because nothing indicated that at level 40 you could go to a separate trainer to obtain training and then further to another merchant to buy that mount.

That game went on to subscribe something like 200 million players.

The point I'm trying to make here is that you are drawing a line arbitrarily. What makes you think 35k credits are too much? My first character in the game had approximately 65k credits without slicing at 25, which I think is reasonable. A fresh newbie might not know to sell all grey items and useless trash items to make sure they have enough money, but it wouldn't take them that long to recover and they'd learn for their next character... a standard rite of passage in any MMO for brand new players.

  3. OK, went to the vendor and this is what they had, or ones with very similar stats:

It's not moddable, you're better off keeping the one you get on Tython and upgrading it with planetary comms.

Yeah, your reasoning is sound, but practically speaking it doesn't work out around that low level. That's good advice though, generally you keep the moddable weapon you like best and just change out the mods on each planet using Commendations. Thanks for pointing that out!

  4. The way i read this is that your trying to get the datacron from the droid factory which is now in a h4 area. You need to have done this before to know the easiest way to get it solo. My advice is just to ask for help. Plus, the datacron in there is aim. Useless for assassin so a bit pointless to delete a character over not getting it

He's talking about a Datacron he has to get for a class quest, I believe.

  5. Don't count on it being too powerful. Legacy kit for a weapon gives a green quality lightsaber, but Jedi get an orange quality for their first weapon while still on Tython. (Sentinels get a second one when choosing their AC.)

Wait, what? The lightsabers you can get from the legacy vendor is considerably better than the one you get from Tython ( any legacy weapon is better than your starter planet weapon. ) The legacy weapon is closer to a purple non-mod weapon than a green quality weapon.

  6. I had to enter my payment information, but I wasn't charged until the first 30 days wrere up.

The same is true here for both of my accounts.

I think the people who think they paid for time before they could get their 30 days are confused. They think they paid for time because they had to enter information and select a subscription plan, and a confirmation email was sent. I bet if they checked their credit statement they'd see that the game didn't charge until the 30 days were up.

I could be wrong, but I have a feeling I'm right.

  7. If it was requested, I would not be opposed to showing my legacy but I was just merely pointing out that there a different reasons for people to hide legacy *shrug*

Yes, there are, and the poster we're referring to has shown his reason for requesting it be shown. There's no real reason to hide it unless you don't want people to know who you are, across the server. That's what I was getting at.

  8. I'd say it's not common. I don't usually use the spacebar and have never gotten kicked for it. Sorry you had a bad experience.

However, if you're on a PvP server, then it might be. I tend to encounter much douchier people on PvP servers.

I'm on The Bastion, let me tell ya.

Spacebar to skip scenes? Not really an issue for me.

You don't use spacebar to jump constantly? Get the hell out.

    P.S. I am joking.

  9. My girlfriend has been leveling a character on my account until she gets a computer that can run the game. Is there any way to transfer her character to her new account, or will she just have to start over? (Ex: in WoW, you could branch an account off of yours and transfer your characters between accounts)

I don't think you can and it probably isn't a feature in the near future.

I started a trial account for my girlfriend to play on until she was able to get an account... I recommend the same plan, mate.

  10. He feels as if just because he has 1 little problem this game is messed up and BW needs to fix this stuff, which will in counclusion mess up alot of peoples gameplay

How will it possibly mess up anyone's gameplay? People have been complaining about these issues in every MMO to date and none of them will ever do anything because there isn't anything that can possibly be done.

His complaint ends here, and the only thing that's at stake is his own subscription, which has absolutely no effect on anyone else. It's impossible for him to be selfish when only his own is affected.

  11. Your being very selfish dude, just because 1 thing happens to you doesnt mean they have to fix it and mess it up for everyone... you said that you can see why this game is bad is because "Your name" Really man? Are you surois?.... No the reasons people leave is way beyond more complicated then that. The reasons you bring are resovled in minutes for others. But your making a whole case about it, stop being selfish. If you quit a game because your name... you shouldnt even play the game.

Keeping in mind I don't support his position, I don't understand how you came to the conclusion that he's selfish. That makes no sense.

  12. Another thing altogether, but names like pancäkê can be a problem in that they may limit the ways you may get invited to groups.

Raid group is being formed. Raid leader asks the other group members if they have friends/guildies who could join. One of them has one and he asks the raid leader to invite pancäkê.

    Raid leader starts to type:

    /invite [character name]

Oh, but the raid leader does not know how to type ä or ê on his keyboard.

So you don't get an invite.

Even if they did find a way around it, that is still extra unnecessary inconvenience for them all.

Don't use umlauts in your name.

Beautiful reasoning, of course. Most people get around this by having the person with the modified characters whisper the leader... however it's an inconvenience in general and really only makes the person using the characters look like a newbie.

  13. i know this wont apply for your first character but if you unlock legacy, and then level up an alt your alt can get a speeder unlocked at level 10, if you have legacy level 5 i believe

These details are correct. Additionally, you need only legacy 5 for all of the speeder unlocks.

  14. What was it you did? I am in the same boat. Thanks

Until we know, you could always try one of the following:

    - Verify all of your account information is accurate

    - Make sure all of your required security questions are answered

    - Make sure you put the CD key you received in your email or from Origin into the field in your account, and then subscribe ( choose a plan as well as add credit card information, or use a game time card )

    - Possibly change your password to force the accounts system to update

  15. In my knowlodge, there's no client difference between trial and original one. And there's only one way to learn that if your is a trial account, or not, {I mean in my opinion}, testify it to 16. It doesn't take too long.

There isn't a difference between the two clients.

To test your trial accounts, BlackHamit, you could always just try to do something the trials aren't allowed to do, like whisper people or send mail. :p

OP: If you are still around, what was the solution, if you don't mind us asking? Would help future searchers who find this thread on google. :)

  16. You raise a good point. It is solely on how you type and communicate, not you're name! Also, despite the fact that "pancake" is interesting, it is most definitely not original.

Original in that it's the original pancake. It's not pancäkê. If someone tries a name and finds it's taken, how does it make sense to change the name to a variant? That just makes you look unoriginal and lame. Pick a new name that you can hold claim to.

  17. I think the whole of this isn't targeting names like "Pancake" or "Clownpants" or "Brita Water the Pure" because those are original names, kinda interesting and a little funny.

On a PvE/PvP server I would absolutely have no problem with those names... the most common tactic for naming on those servers is single words or short phrases.

I do however have a problem with people that attempt a name, don't get it and just put accented characters or x's in their name or whatever. I think it's lazy, unoriginal and reflects really poorly on the person playing.

Remember: In an online environment, your wit and ability to enter text is solely how you are being judged. We can't see you, hear you, and we know nothing about you. What you enter into that name box and into the chat is what we are using to judge you. If you aren't capable of originality and you type poorly, what makes us think you will do any better pressing the buttons necessary to be good at the game?

  18. Strafing is a necessary component for PvP, especially for kiting.

It's an advantage, and every advantage should be taken if you want to PvP well.

Definitely replace the "turn" keys on A and D with strafe left and right respectively. Having those keys turn the screen is redundant.

  19. Really? To all of this...

I'm hitting 33 shortly and I find I'm WAY ahead of the level, just doing planet quests and class quests. I usually end up skipping an entire area on each planet simply because I've outleveled the planet.

I don't really know how you are getting so far behind. :o

  20. Hi,

Both myself and my son are having problems with the Galactic Network. Where I can see 40+ pages of an item, with exactly the same settings, he gets no results at all.

However, some items he can see - it's almost like it is bugged but have no idea.

Can anyone shed any light on this please?

    Cheers,

    Tet

I can't say much, but I've seen other posters with this issue, so you're not alone. If you post in customer service they can provide some support, but I really don't know why that's happening!
