[whats the point of orbital stations?]

I've only had occasion to visit one once, and based on that, my best guess is that it prevents Empire players from landing in Republic starter zones, and vice versa, since you have to interact with an NPC to get from the station to the planet.

 

Unless I'm remembering the experience completely wrong.

After I regained myself from the epileptic fit I suffered from OP's text, I must agree it is a pretty crafty idea.

I for one, never said this game was unlike WoW. My major problem with it is that is too lineair..

I think WoW is very deceptive in it's open worldness, you still only really quest or group up with those in your area and with LFG tools and such nobody really ventures into the world anyway as they can do everything they need to from the main cities (everything but collect herbs etc).
