  1. I really like your point but I think the principle still applies. Honestly, I regret naming the thread what I named it. It was more of an attempt to garner readership. I was trying to show that perhaps people are too quick to assume that there is nothing wrong with them and the problems that they are facing are purely due to the game. It is the immediate and passionate conclusion that the game is the problem that I find interesting and relevant to Illusory Superiority. I think somebody in your position who has two WH geared toons would fall into the higher percentiles of skill level. Because of this, you probably have a more accurate understanding of your skill level and should be able to speak into balance issues with more authority.
  2. I should have made this last point. I completely agree that imbalance does exist but not to the extent that people think. Thank you for saying this.
  3. Ha. The entire point of the post was an admission that I am most likely not smarter or better than the average player. I was simply pointing out what could be the psychological foundation for the class outrage that seems to plague every MMO. I agree, I think they are getting pretty darn close as well.
  4. Illusory superiority is a psychological phenomenon that causes people to overestimate their ability in a particular task or life skill. Everyone does it. Two scientists, Dunning and Kruger, conducted a study where they had groups of people perform a variety of tasks and then rate themselves on their competency. Every group declared that they were better than average - even the lowest performing groups. In fact, it was the lowest performing groups that rated themselves the highest. They found that the worse you are at a certain task, the better you probably think you are. This principle has been proven to be true in education, work, athletics and more. 87% of Stanford MBA students rated themselves as better than average. Obviously, this is impossible. The long and short: everyone thinks they are better at things than they actually are. Clearly, MMO's don't escape this phenomenon. In fact, they probably exacerbate it - especially PVP environments where a person is put into direct competition with another "worse" player. The thinking goes like this: 1. I just lost to this operative/BH/Mara/Sent in a WZ 2. I am a better than average player so it must not be me 3. NERF! The thinking should go: 1. I just lost to this operative/BH/Mara/Sent 2. I am most likely an average player 3. How can I better counter that class next time Basically... L2P
  5. It's not the gun, it's the shooter. Any class is deadly in the right hands. With that said, I am more than happy with my Pyro-tech in PVP.
