  1. So... in your opinion, people should just continue sending their money to eaware no matter what they do? Should eaware be completely unaccountable for the decisions they make and if not, what recourse is there to make eaware aware of our disapproval if petitions, forums and unsubscribing is futile? Just because you've bent over and had the pineapple inserted, doesn't mean we are going to.
  2. Summary of the Easter weekend posts for this topic: "You suck" "No, you suck" "You're a ****" "No, you're a ****" "EAWARE response to this thread *link*" "LOL" "Sign this petition!" "It won't work" I'm guessing too much chocolate had something to do with this but congratulations on derailing any meaningful discussion about the proposed mergers. It's pretty obvious why the developers don't respond to our concerns for months on end if they have to wade through drivel of this magnitude. I respectfully request that people go back over their posts and delete any flaming or counter flaming, youtube links, repeat posts saying the exact same thing and anything else of no relation to the topic at hand. Thanks
  3. Fair enough and good advice. Thank you. I suggest recording the number of this post and pointing people to it who complain solely about the latency issue, especially if they aren't having issues with abilities missing mid rotation. It'll save you having to rewrite or truncate responses that might get misinterpreted. Better yet, use those youtube skills of yours for a demo vid. Who knows you might have an impact on those sitting on the fence about going or staying. Bye for now.
  4. I'm not entirely sure whether your points regarding latency are about my posts but to clarify, I'm not saying WoW or EVE weren't affected by lag. I'm saying the games handled higher latencies waaaaaaaaaaaay better than SWTOR. Snivy, I'd still like to see an explanation why my criticism's of playing SWTOR at 300+ms latency are funny too. If I'm doing something wrong, I'd like to know.
  5. *I've trimmed your quote so this doesn't turn into too big a wall of text* Regarding EVE - I'm quite aware of how the combat system works. I played it for six years - tried every facet of the game available at the time except the spying metagame and moved on. Hence my previous point about the very nature of combat making latency far more tolerable. Is it a good game to compare to SWTOR directly... probably not. The point I was trying to make with EVE is that the type of game does determine tolerance levels for latency. I disagree about your WoW point - Wow's engine was better in 2006 when I started playing. I agree that eaware is new to the genre and deserved some slack. However, you'd think that after one and a half years, they might have prioritised fixing their combat system a bit higher. There's also claims that the inherent flaws of the hero engine mean that SWTOR's system will always be sub-par to WoW. I hope that's not the case. Personally, I don't think eaware will ever fix the combat system even if they can. Their behaviour resembles start-up companies on government subsidy or some other form of temporary protection. Eaware has already grown accustomed to the remaining players subsidising their poor decisions no matter what they do or how badly they screw up. For me, it's time to cut the umbilical cord. Regarding gaming culture - I'm aware of the phenomenon. That said EVE and WoW have both succeeded in the Western and Asian environments. I think it is unrealistic to attribute the failure of a game purely on gaming culture when a niche market in Asia can mean millions of subscribers. As for Australia (Oceania) - yep, we're a minnow. My counter question to that is: How do we grow Oceanic / SEA interest in gaming if we can't secure equivalent levels of service in our own region? It has to start at a grassroots level and that requires infrastructure at a National and Company level. The NBN may have an impact in the near future but until Companies start thinking long-term about how to grow a relatively untapped market like Oceania / SEA, we'll continue to get shafted with second-rate arrangements which damages regional sentiment for gaming as a whole.
  6. Regarding 1) A fix in your eyes but there's no arguing that they are going to do something. Regarding 2) Why is this funny? I've already explained in some detail how a 300ms latency affects my ability to play the game. Are you saying that I'm lying? Also, let's assume you have a twin over in America who plays the game as well as you do. Suddenly, that 1/4 second is no longer a handicap (it's not leveling the playing field), it's a disadvantage - you lose every time you go up against your twin. As such, your twin is regarded by the entire server as being better than you. Would you be happy with that outcome given your hunger for PvP (and I suspect, your hunger to win)? You also appear to be making the assumption that lag affects SWTOR like it affects competing MMOs. In my experience this is not the case. In EVE, the very nature of how combat took place meant that you could fight effectively at much higher latencies. In WoW the game engine was far more robust and well developed - you could stack abilities and they would execute in the order selected in the event of a lag spike. In my experience, SWTOR doesn't do this. In SWTOR abilities that are stacked together during noticeable lag simply don't activate. Combine this with the plethora of bugs and glitches in WZs and it becomes far more difficult to fight effectively. Your final point about Aussies adapting to the lag holds some truth. There are some very good Aussie PvPers out there - no doubt. My question is, how much more successful would they be (or have been) without the lag? Would we see more Aussie / Kiwi / SEA e-sports / pro-gaming teams? Would there be more people playing at a competitive level if they knew they weren't handicapped by latency? Oh and please don't point to SWTOR's Australian servers as justification that lag isn't a factor in attracting / retaining competitive gamers. People have left SWTOR for dozens of reasons during it's short life. The game is flawed in many ways. It just so happens that the prospect of higher latency is the tipping point for another group of players unsubscribing and, unfortunately, your opinion / experience on playing with lag isn't going to dissuade them - especially when your response is to laugh at them and dismiss the point entirely.
  7. Well I did write that both sides were guilty of the same sin. As I understand it "/signed" is nerdspeak for "I agree with you", which infers that it's not the same person posting "/signed" over and over and over so your counter point doesn't hold much water there Snivy and I'm pretty sure you know that. Also, your point about spending time arguing with people out of boredom is in line with my point about self gratification. I see nothing of additional substance in your response. You've already established that you didn't like the low population environment in previous posts and that you're happy with the proposed solution (many times). So... why bother with your response to my post? Do you really find the game that boring that you'd prefer to waste your time repeating yourself on these forums about a potential outcome that you find satisfactory? Does that mean you aren't happy with the game? Also, you have the option to be playing on the higher population US servers right now. You could be sating that thirst for PVP on a high population server right now... and yet you are wasting your time and energy here. Why?
  8. What reality? The APAC servers are still working. The only thing that is certain is that we know eaware's intended course of action. Some people are trying to change that course of action. You, Jack and a few others don't like this. Great - you've put your opinion up. It's been noted and a lot of people seem to disagree with you. Deal with it. Repeating the same lines and ad hominem attacks every time another person steps up and disagrees with you doesn't make your point of view any more valid nor does it alter the ratio of people agreeing or disagreeing with you. It just makes you appear bigoted. Hence the troll calls. You appear to have nothing else of substance to offer the argument yet you continue to attack alternate points of view. If you aren't doing it to further the discussion, then it is fair to assume you are doing it for your own gratification. That said, there are people guilty of the same sin on the opposing side. However, they post once or twice and then leave or go on to another point of the discussion. If you're happy with the change - good. If you're not happy with the change but still want to play - good. If you're not happy with the changes and want to organise petitions / in-game protests because it might change eaware's mind (or just helps you deal with the proposed change) - good. At the end of the day, every player will make up their own mind regarding the APAC merge. For me, I'll be leaving the game if things stay as they are. If I wanted to play on US servers, I would have rolled on one. For me, I find that the US latencies (300+ ms) make the game much harder to play. I find that if I chain a series of abilities in anything over 150+ ms, abilities don't activate at all, particularly instant cast abilities than can be used after a proc (eg. PPA railshot). Now, I don't know if this is purely a latency issue or some in-game bug that eaware hasn't gotten around to fixing BUT I do know that it is far more prevalent at higher latencies. I'm not an expert in computer game coding or computer hardware so I can't point to the exact problem with any degree of reliability or authority. However, I shouldn't need a Degree in Software Engineering to play an MMO either.
  9. Unsubbed. Thanks for the good times. Dalborra has been the best MMO community I've been in by far. Special thanks to Darkness Reigns, Pax Fatalis, Kozzy, Cynthia, SPK, Defiance, Zevren, Lailahx, Arikal, Fatsoe, Mosh, Visored, Woofi, Tough'Mudder and so many more that I spent time with in PvE and / or PvPed with / against. I learned a lot from you guys. It's been fun. Drederick / Bling / Sisterjill / Nat'e / N'orm / Neddie and some others... Oh and I've already given my stuff away. Sorry
  10. Sorry Eric, I'm not buying your justification at all. It was overwhelmingly clear that the APAC community wanted to merge into one APAC server. I guess I wouldn't be this bitter about this decision if you had just dumped it on us but you asked for our input and pursued one of the least popular options. I wouldn't be surprised if this is a cost savings exercise as some have suggested. I would have thought EA would want to avoid more negative sentiment considering the debacle that was the Sim City 2013 release but hey; you've collectively managed to consistently astound the gaming community with your hubris and lack of accountability for the crap you peddle. I truly hope that the gaming community starts voting with their wallets and leaves you high and dry. I'm so glad I never bought into the cartel coin market and didn't pre-order the xpac - you didn't get one cent more from me than was absolutely necessary to play. To Bioware. Get out if you can. This association with EA has done nothing but sully your reputation as a quality games developer. I too will not be purchasing another EA title in the foreseeable future, if ever again, and will be doing my best to persuade friends and relatives to do the same. Goodbye.
  11. Of course Eaware is thinking about doing the one thing that will make me unsub... I can handle the content delays, the new bugs on working content every patch and lack of innovation (despite the community handing the devs good ideas on a silver platter) but forcing me back to a ping where I haven't got a chance of being competitive is one step too far. If this goes through I'm done with SWTOR, which is a shame. I was looking forward to the possibility of the entire APAC community merging. This is undeniable proof that Eaware is not listening to the community. It is clear on the plethora of topics raised about APAC population that the OVERWHELMING desire of the APAC player-base is to have the APAC servers merged. What a massive disappointment this game turned out to be.
  12. I'd prefer to see the free tranfers from US to Oceanic servers being offered before a server merge. As a few people have already mentioned, there are people out there who don't like being in log-in queues and there are Oceanic players on US servers that would return if the transfer option was made available. I can only speak for my experience on Dalborra but I don't find the population size to be that limiting as it stands. PUG Ops groups form fairly quickly (15 minutes) during peak times and the PvP queues are tolerable most of the time. I would be prepared to wait and see how many US-based players come over. If there was still a lot of complaints after the free transfer window closed then an Oceanic server merge would be the next best thing; which is what the majority of posters seem to be advocating anyway. I, too, am not prepared to go back to US latencies (300+ms for me). The game doesn't play well past the 150 ms mark in my opinion.
