For my SI I kind of focused on the fact that she used to be a slave (and subject to quite a bit of abuse) and did not willingly join the Sith. Arrogant, cynical and ruthless but does not hurt people for fun. As in: "I am willing to blow up a planet to further my goals, unless the objective can be accomplished by less radical means. Destroying planets is expensive, time consuming and is frowned upon in a polite society." Interestingly enough she ended up being LS even though I expected mild to medium DS.

@OP: My guess would be that the game's target audience have not experienced things that would make one wish to die. Ergo, sparing someone's life would seem like a universally good choice to them and the game simply reflects that.

I would recommend exactly the opposite as it makes for an interesting story.

It is kind of silly that there was no way to simply get Zash a new body. Just use one of those champion Jedi (which you kill on daily basis) and a Rakata mind prison (which are dime a dozen on Belsavis) to facilitate the transfer.
