Anyone else feel limited by only having 3 crew skills for your entire party? Any thought to allowing each companion to carry there own 3 crew skills?

Is there a way when you are talking to vendors or in your inventory with one of your companions selected to know if the armor or weapon is better than the one current equipped? Right now it seems to compare everything to my character.
