  1. It's a variation of force sweep, on alderaan one of the bosses that the sith inquisitor has to kill does this same exact move. He does his jump and plunges his saber into the ground then for 4 seconds or so the ground is pulsing and you continue to take damage.
  2. First off like many of you here SWTOR is the first MMO I have ever played. In the beginning on Tython I thought to myself hey this is easy, I picked my advanced class and the game progressed and I developed new skills it started to get more complicated. I wasn't investing my skill points wisely, I didn't pay attention to my equipment or the equipment of my companion, and I lacked awareness. But just because this is the first MMO played by many of us including myself that doesn't make it a valid excuse. It's up to the player to learn and read the information available in game through the codex, from other players, and on the forums. Now I don't want anyone reading this to think I'm trying bash or give new players a hard time, that's not why I'm writing this. I'm doing this so that hopefully other new players will have a better understanding. Also I'm not trying bring up a dead post, two years after this was posted on the forums, people are still coming here and talking about how difficult this fight is when, it really isn't. Now in my opinion again I state my opinion the problem is people forget about upgrading their equipment and the equipment of their companions, not understanding the skill tree they are investing points into, not knowing what all of their abilities do, a lack of situational awareness, and rushing through therefore being under leveled. Equipment pretty simple keep it updated, you earn commendations for completing quests save them and buy upgrades for your gear and your companions gear. Shop on the Galactic Trade Network (GTN) for new equipment. It's not a good idea to use gear that is 3, 4, 5 levels below your level. You won't do as much damage, your health will be lower due to the lack of endurance (remember that 1 point of endurance increases your health by 10 points roughly), and you will take more damage if you have a lower armor rating. Also each class has their main stat which increases both forms of damage for a Jedi Knight that would be melee damage and Force Damage. A Jedi Knights main stat is STRENGTH , meaning use equipment that has strength (armor, mods, hilts, implants, ear pieces, & stims use either strength endurance, possibly the command stim it increases your presence which increases your companions health and damage). A Jedi Knight doesn't need armor with cunning, aim, or will power these attributes are the for the other classes. Just because you can equip a piece of armor doesn't mean you should equip that piece of armor (medium armor with cunning=smuggler, heavy armor with aim=trooper). Also if you are a DPS guardian you should equip a strength focus because it will increase your force bonus power more then a shield generator will. If you are tank spec'd make sure you have a shield generator equipped because if you don't you loose all the shielding benefits of your tank stance. Your companions have a main stat just like the character you created so make sure that the equipment they are using is really meant for them. Kira for example, her main stat would be will power, she's pretty easy in the gear department because only light armor has will power. So just make sure you give her a will power focus for her off hand and use will power armoring pieces, mods, and hilts. Again all of those items listed can be purchased from the commendation vendors or through the Galactic Trade Network (GTN). If you are ever unsure as to what a companions main stat is press the "L" key and open up your codex, find the character and there you go. Now the skill tree, as I stated earlier with this being my first MMO I was putting my skill points all over the place which I thought would be helpful. It had the reverse effect, by level 25 I unlocked the entire bottom row of all the skill trees for the Guardian missing out on some abilities I would have gained by investing all or most skill points in one tree. Some of the abilities are activated, others are passive and some enhance abilities you have. For example in the Vigilance tree for Guardians there is an ability linked to the Shien form called unremitting which grants a 20% damage reduction and immunity to interrupts and controlling effects for 4 seconds. But this ability is only granted if you are using the Shien form. So make sure that the skills you're investing are for the stance you're in. Now you do get a few extra skill points that allow you invest in some of the other areas just make sure that you're paying attention to where there going. Check torhead's skill calculator or other similar sites or look at the builds other people have posted on the forums. Each of the trees have key abilities only useable or beneficial in the correct lightsaber form. Pay attention to what you investing in, open up the skill tree and read each of the abilities so you know what they do it's as simple as pressing "K" and holding your mouse over the skill and reading the description box that pops up. You can do the same with your activated combat abilities, press "P" to open up the abilities menu and select the tab that says Jedi Knight see shared abilities or select the tab that has Guardian or Sentinel to see class specific abilities. Read them, then read them again, and again. That way you'll know what they do and have a better understanding of how to use them. Now situational awareness, knowing what your enemy is doing, what your companion(s) are doing, what you should be doing in a given situation, your surroundings, and knowing when to use certain abilities. This in a way ties into rushing through content because if you're rushing through things there is a good chance that you're not paying attention to what you are supposed to be doing because you're focused on finishing quickly and that tends to lead to mistakes happening. Even if you only do group missions a few times it will help you with your awareness because you are forced pay attention to whats going on around you, what the group is doing, your positioning in a fight, and what other npc's are doing. Doing group content will also help you knowing when to use your interrupts, CC (crowd control), and other abilities. It also allows you to see how other players play their character. You could kind of think of it as hands on learning. But the tactics you learn while doing group quests will carry over and make you a better player as you are questing on your own. Group quests are also a good way to get new equipment, extra $, exp, and commendations. Even if you don't want to do Flash Points group up for the planetary heroics, it may take you a little longer to the planet you are on and some may say "I'm f2p I can't do flash points" or "as a f2p player I don't gain exp as fast". That would make it more important to do as much content as you possibly can so you are leveled appropriately and f2p can complete Flash Points they are just limited to a certain number per week. I know that there are other guides and that's not what this was meant to be, just some helpful advice. All of the things I mention anybody can do and it's not difficult, the more you learn about the class you are playing the more competent you will become and you won't be posting on the forums about not being able to Valis.
  3. There are two different FP's that stand out in my mind, one was Maelstrom prison (on my DPS Commando which luckily myself and the 2 other team members were over geared and at the upper end of the lvl recommendation), the other time was Mandalorian Raiders (on my decently geared dps guardian but right at the recommended lvl). Both of these where Pre F2P launch as well. So the Maelstrom prison we have a shadow tank, commando healer, dps scoundrel, and my dps commando. From the start it was pretty easy to see that the Tank was pretty new at tanking as they never used taunt or any of their defensive abilities, wouldn't attempt to maintain agro, even on the target they where attacking, Both the healer and I were constantly holding the agro. During the 1st *boss fight where you have to beat the guy on the hill that has the two green cats (i forget what they're called) we start out with the scoundrel and my self cc'ing the cats so we can focus on the imp guy. The shadow runs in and uses overload to break them out of cc and scatter them about. The commando healer uses his cc and the shadow then uses project to break the cc again. Two of the cats immediately go after the healer so I used mortar volley to take the agro off of him and on myself all the while the tank has used up all of their force power and is now just using the standard attack on the imp guy. Long battle but luckily no one died. After that fight I checked the equipment they had on and they where in all blue and green gear that was 5-6 lvl bellow what they where and I mean all of their gear even their lightsaber. During this time the person playing the scoundrel asks if this is anybody's 1st time on this FP the healer says yes it's their 1st and the shadow doesn't say anything. So the scoundrel gives a brief explanation of things and we move on. We get to the next boss where again it's another imp guy and the one cat in compound and it's more of the same thing I ended up pulling agro and tanking the fight, but before the fight is over the shadow runs and pulls one of the groups of troopers and droids. They ultimately end up getting killed bc they're all alone as the rest of the group is finishing up with the boss. Rez the shadow and the healer asks if they have ever tanked before and still they don't say anything. Throughout the FP they kept running off on their own and starting fights with random groups and not communicating with the group. We all ended up wiping at the Kolto tank boss bc again they pulled some mobs from outside the area. We ultimately finished the FP but my DPS Commando ended up tanking the FP as well as DPS'ing. That one was interesting. The second was the Mandalorian Raiders we had a healer that wouldn't heal, attack, CC, or anything else. This time we had a shadow(dps), vanguard(tank), guardian(me dps), and sage(healer) We also had kind of a goofy tank. At the start we asked if anybody was new to the FP and everybody said they had completed it before. Things started to go downhill from the start when it was obvious that the sage healer wasn't healing anybody and the tank kept getting killed. We asked again if this was anyone's 1st time and politely asked if the healer could well heal this time they just didn't say anything. We got to the fight where you fight the 4 imp counterparts and the sage starts the fight by running down the ramp, before we can even get any CC off. After they run down they run back up to the top we end up wiping pretty fast. We all rez up and get back to the area, this time we tell everybody to stop and wait bc we need to CC 2 of the ppl, we tell the sage whirlwind the guy marked with the gun symbol, and the shadow is going to cc the other. The shadow throws down their cc and the sage just stands there. We keep asking for them to CC, they still aren't talking and I'm starting to think ok so maybe they don't know what CC means so I ask them to use their whirlwind skill on the target that has the gun symbol floating above them. What do they do? They CC the target that's already cc'd which starts combat. We get 2 of the targets down this time but end up wiping bc they still won't heal anybody. We vote kick and luckily we got another healer with in 2 min. Now the reason I say that the tank was kind of goofy is bc well they had a habit of standing in the middle of AOE attacks and telling ppl to do things that didn't really make sense, the shadow would routinely put down their mez and the tank would run up hit the mez'd target, I'm guessing they didn't have the best gear bc they where constantly getting killed even when the healer was healing only them, but at the fight with the 4 imp counterparts after they died the last guy we had to kill was the bh who if I'm remembering correctly had a AOE attack well when he would use his AOE I would move out of the area, he kept telling me stay in one place so that the healer could heal me. We ended up finishing the FP without much more going on. Sorry for being rather long winded.
  4. As an MBP owner myself I haven't noticed any issues at all. I have a "late 2011" model. i7 2.4ghz, 8gb dd3, 1gb dd3 and 6770hd graphics card, 750 GB HD(350 for windows 400 for OSX). Yes you will need to install windows 7 or 8 as far as I know from OS X Lion and up they won't work with XP or down. Using Bootcamp to install windows isn't all that difficult I used a zip drive to load all the drivers for windows on. One thing I noticed people doing when I was re-searching how to use Bootcamp, watching videos on youtube and different places was that when they where choosing the partition for the windows side of the HD they where giving it a very low amount of storage. I run SWTOR on high with out any lag or frame rate issues. If both of MBP's have the Intel4000 integrated graphics card then I would choose the Retina display. But if one them has a second one as well as the integrated one, well then I would choose the comp with the better graphics card.
