  1. Story Title The Ties that Bind Link http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=418936 Author's name Proudofthefish Class Jedi Knight
  2. *snort* Anyway, I agree that it depends on how you want to play your character. Now if your question is: Does the flirt option open or effect more story lines (which is an interesting thought)? I don't have an answer as my JK is eventually going to be involved with her childhood friend my IA. Even if it is only in fanfiction and I haven't gotten any flirt options yet anyway.
  3. I'd say that as a fan who has seen only the movies and read a few wiki articles on the EU I would agree with the poster above you. Would you mind posting some examples about what you mean? I'm curious.
  4. Rather new here and trying to read up on lore mostly so I can get character motivations straight in my head. Here is where I think some of this issue is confusing. Sith is both a race and an organization. There should be no assumption that sith (race) are automatically evil. Sith the organization because of their focus on the dark side would be considered evil. As for strength wouldn't that depend more on force sensitivity than DS/LS after all Anikan was both a powerful Jedi and a Powerful Sith. As an aside it would be cool if a traditionally DS class gained and lost access to abilities as their alignment shifted. Or even if they had to go out of their way to find a trainer for their new abilities. It would also be cool if they could give in to their original side and use an ability they normally could not, though it would have a long cd to make it a seldom used ability. And vice versa if you played a traditionally LS class DS.
  5. This is subject to change when I know more of the individual story lines. I am still trying to get to Legacy on my main, but I had time to kill last week and I have been thinking of this for a while now. Hang on to your hats... Most of my characters grew up together on a TBD planet (suggestions welcome) in an orphanage. My Miraluka JK and JC are biological sisters who were removed from the home by a Jedi at about the age of 9 shortly before the planet fell to the Empire. The Smuggler. IA, BH, and Trooper are also from the orphanage and they formed their own family as children although some are blood related as well. For all of them (eventually) family is stronger than faction which will make for some interesting fanfic possibilities MY JK and JC had parents who were pretty adventurous for Miraluka and that is how they end up on a faraway planet. When their parents died they were left at the orphanage. My JK was best friends in childhood with the IA, but when she was taken away and then the planet fell he became bitter towards the Order and by extension the Republic. While he was a good little Empire follower for a while he has started to spare innocents if he can. He thinks the Empire is better than the corrupt Republic and he loathes the Jedi. I can’t be certain until I play the story but I am assuming he will be grey or LS. He eventually runs into my JK again and they end up together. MY JC is a few years younger and somewhat less impulsive than her sister. She is very diplomatic. She was closest to the Smuggler as a child. My Smuggler was abandoned on the orphanage steps as an infant and has a soft spot for children and Damsels in Distress. He is extremely loyal to the JC and my other charcters as they are his family but not the Republic. He prefers the freedom of the smuggler way of life and hopes to convince the JC that not all attachment is bad. They are solidly LS. My BH is twin to my IA and is not as vindictive, but feels the Republic abandoned them to the Empire. He’ll take any job against the Reps at a price but draws the line at those involving children and slaves. He is a follower especially of his brother and he doesn’t think too hard about right and wrong. Not sure what his alignment will be but probably close to neutral. My Trooper is the daughter of a veteran and a local woman who died in child birth. She was given to the orphanage because a Trooper could not raise a child and fight at the same time. She and the smuggler spent their whole lives at the Orphanage and she is also good friends with my JK. She is the confidante of everyone in the group no matter what their allegiance. She is solidly LS. My SI and SW are Purebloods out to cleanse their races name and they value honor and integrity. ( I thought of this before I ran into Lord Pavern’s story line) They enjoy the chase more than the kill. Not sure how their alinement will work. I am new to this so suggestions welcome!
  6. The sand demon and it's offspring, I can totally deal with spiders in real life but not in games or movies, Var Suthra's mismanagement of WMD's. Also having to ctr+alt+del to get the loading bar every time I play the game and sometimes in between planets.
  7. I finally saw some of the healing, but a question about mechanics: I have overload saber and I know it stacks up to three. Should I wait until I have 3 of OLS and then use Cauterize? Does Cauterize trigger the healing or is the effect immediate once a burning attack starts. Is Armour rating a quick way to tell if something is better? I just find that the information is a lot to comprehend even with the side by side comparisons. I have some orange pieces, but with out mods I was finding better things at drops. I only recently remembered about commendations. I looked up the definition of Kiting and am still confused. Is it better to strafe because it will be harder for the boss to get a bead on me? Or does it have no defensive value? Heh good to know I do know about interrupts but can his black bubble thing be interrupted? I think Watchman will help but he seemed to be absorbing some of my stronger attacks so we will see. I'm going to try and get at least to 29. Part of my problem is that while the game looks cool I find it very visually overwhelming . I have to watch AND try and keep track of cool downs. i think I am at a bit of a disadvantage This was awesome and I appreciate your thoroughness. Thanks!
  8. Hi all, First I am brand new to MMO's in general although I have looked around this board a found it helpful. I don't consider myself a very good player. Some of that is out of my control but that is neither here nor there. I am a level 28 Sentential and I keep dying all the time on story bosses which is frustrating partly because I want to finish act one and unlock legacy and start experiencing other story lines. Knowing what I know know I probably should have rolled a guardian, but I have no interest in rerolling. I have some thoughts but would love suggestions for what I see as my specific difficulties. I usually try to stay a level or 2 ahead of mobs but right now it doesn't seem to be helping. I just respeced from combat to watchman to try and get the self healing but I am not quite clear on how that works. Is it linked to cauterize? I know I need to keep gear up. I was mostly using drops for this until I got to Valis and died many many times. Is there a time when just picking up from drops becomes an obsolete method? Along those lines is there an easy way to tell if I need to upgrade my gear? For example if you are a level 28 your Armor rating should be above 50 or something? Finally I am stuck at Lord Pavern ( and feel like I shouldn't be there's not nearly as many complaints about him as there was Valis) and one thing I noticed when I watched a video of the combat was the player constantly moving side to side. Does this actually have strategic value--like making you hard to hit or does it just look cool? I know these might be simple questions but not having had any exposure to MMO's I've had a very steep learning curve. Thanks for any help in advance.
  9. A/N This story may contain spoilers through the Boss fight with Valis. It began as my attempt to reconcile my cannon with the cut scenes as I ended up using a different companion in the fight than they suggest. It ended up fleshing out my character more than I expected. Enjoy! The Ties That Bind Saralon may have had her own Padawan. She may have been a Jedi Knight and the Hero of Tython, she may have been more comfortable relying on the Force then most with the same training, but she still struggled to push down the fear. For a moment she focused inward, calming her breathing and tapping into the Force to block out the memories. Her eyes may be sightless, but her memories were strong of those she hadcalled brother and sister before the Jedi had found her at the orphanage. She was not supposed to have the attachment but the Miraluka’s understanding of the Force differed slightly from that of the Jedi Council. She had heard rumors of one of the boys she considered as close as a brother. Rumors that he was serving the Sith as an Imperial Agent. The Force blast caught her unaware, but it was enough to shake her out of the memories. She leapt back into the fight and threw her offhand saber towards Valis’ head in an attempt to turn his attention from Kira. The girl was not dead, Saralon could still feel her through the Force, but she was crumpled on the ground and not moving. Valis turned his attention towards her and she jumped up to kick him. As her foot made contact with his chest she heard a loud metallic thump from behind them and an indigent series of beeps which seemed to say: Jedi+Kira-T7=disaster. Vilas was distracted for only a fraction of a second but it was enough for her to use Force Stasis. As she held him in place it was almost as if the Force was battling itself—his dark side power versus her light. With the man Immobilized T7 was able to hold him with his electric blast. Finally with one last strike from each of her sabers his own disengaged and clattered to the ground, the sound echoing around the cavernous abandoned room. T-7 beeped triumphantly, but Saralon knelt tiredly by her unconscious Padawan. Drawing on the Force to heal her own wounds she heard a medical droid come clanking in to tend to the girl. She nodded her thanks and rose wearily. “Thanks for the help T7,” she spoke quietly, “but remember all victory that comes at the cost of human life can never be truly sweet, even if that life is a Sith. If we glory in the victory— even if it is for the greater good— without regard for or pausing to think of the life we have taken we begin down the path of the Dark Side. T7 let out a series of beeps that sounded like one of the petulant younglings back at the Temple when they have been reprimanded, and headed back to the ship. Saralon extended a hand Kira and helped her to her feet. Taping into the Force she covered her impatience for answers and held her silence as they boarded the ship. She believed as did most of her kind— that attachments were not dangerous if one examined them honestly, and if one did not get their identity from them. Miraluka got their identity from the Force. She remembered the Elder at the orphanage telling her before she left with the Jedi. To get it from anywhere else—a person, a group, or an achievement only left one open to disappointment and bitterness. It was a hard lesson to learn, but it was one she would attempt to pass on to her Padawan as it had been passed on to her.
  10. Thanks the time line info is helpful I just didn't want my characters story lines to be years apart if I start to get really creative and write some fic.
  11. Oh I like that idea. Thanks for the help guys. And the interesting point about the stories being a little too constricting. I'll post my backgrounds on the forum when I get them all worked out. One thing I was looking for was a timeline of the different stories. I can't really find summaries of course because people don't want to be spoiled (which I understand), but I was wondering do all the stories take place at roughly the same time?
  12. Obviously I need to do more research into the class backgrounds/origin stories. I only found out that SI were usually slaves because of earlier research today.
  13. Basically I just wnted to make sure they sounded plausible. So thanks.
  14. Hello there, I am relatively new to the SW Expanded Universe and I was trying to work out a background for my character and how they would know each other and be all different races. I really got into this game for it's story possibilities so even though I am not at Legacy yet I am already thinking of backgrounds. My first character is a female Miraluka JK. And I wanted my second character to be a human male IA. I wanted them to know each other from childhood and I was thinking they could have been at an orphanage together until she was discovered by the Jedi. However I like my backgrounds to be pretty reasonable and so is there any lore supporting (or not supporting) orphanages that would be open to all races? I'm thinking it would probably be on a core world. Or I am open to other suggestions that achieve a similar end. Thanks in advance for the help.
