  1. Don't think so. Anakin and Palpatine were already friends before he had the nightmares. If you remember/watched the end of the first prequel, Palpatine had sensed Anakin's potential and was interested in him before he had even started training. Its quite possible that Palpatine, being an evil genious and all, would have found connections to Anakin even without Padme.
  2. Not talking about the EU, its been said that Lucas version of balance is no dark side at all. All that light and dark needing each other is how some people who don't control the SW universe think it should be. Not saying I disagree with you on how it "should" be, its just thats not what the writers wrote.
  3. You seem kinda wrong on alot of points. Not sure I go for the whole "will of the force" type of stuff as an excuse. Even if i did that sounds like rubbish, cause the force is supose to be all good and stuff. The dark side is described as an aberation, a cancer on the universe NOT a true aspect of the force itself. Why would the force (being good) want Anakin to fall only to be redeemed? Especialy since all the bad stuff never would have happened if he hadn't fell in the first place. Obi-wan wasn't anymore at fault though, than the council though. He obviously did his best. The council knew the risks involved with training him in the beggining, but seem to have forgotten towards the end. Ignoring his desire for power (to be on the council) and instead placing him in even more precarious position to spy on Palpatine. Also, there were plenty of force users around besides Luke, Vader, and Sidious. The emporer had some working for him. Plenty elsewhere in the galaxy. Most were never trained as Jedi in the first place though. Remember that (while I dislike it, it seems to be what the writers meant) the idea of balance refered to in the prophecy is NO dark side users, not an equal number. Its supose to only be balanced if the dark side is virtually non-existant. This goes back to idea that the dark side is an aberation that isn't supose to exist.
  4. Idk, Vader was pretty confused at that point. Especialy when Obi's body disapeared. Also remember that being Sith, Vader surely took much of his strength from hating Obi-Wan. I know i sure would have hated the former master who left me just about limbless and stranded on a burning rock. Having such a source of hate vanish *might* have weakened him. Also, if he had continued to fight Luke might not have left with Han and the others while Obi was still alive. Imo its kinda a toss up, but letting vader kill him might have helped more than fighting.
  5. They are tought to control *weak* emotions. They are tought to avoid attachments so they never feel *strong* emotions in the first place. Many, taken for training as children, never know their mothers, or fathers, or any other family. The temple makes sure they never get to close to other students or teachers. These jedi don't know what its like to love someone more than themselves. Or have someone you love die. Or how to feel if the loved one is in danger. Or the anger you feel when you see someone destroy something or someone you care about. Or jealousy. Their training only teaches them to avoid situations leading to those emotions, not control them. Spending their life avoiding those situations means they are ill-prepared to handle them -if- they occur.
  6. Wether or not he seemed calm, that is probably the worst example of emotional failure ever. From all appearances he walked away because he couldn't bring himself to kill Vader. He still saw him as Anakin, his former padawan, his "brother" as he calls him in the movie. After he was "reconstructed" Vader continued to hunt down Jedi, and pretty much finished off any chance of the old jedi order coming back. All because Obi-Wan couldn't bring himself to destroy a Sith he was attached to. While some might think he thought Vader was no longer a threat... He knew he had failed, as he reported his failure to Yoda. Imo of course - I still say the Jedi policy of shunning emotions and attachments is flawed. Its a system set up to fail. When you spend all your life suppressing or ignoring how you realy feel and avoiding attachments, then you are ill equiped to handle such feelings if something extremely emotional does occur. Would have been much better had they accepted the way things are and tought the jedi how to cope (reach peace) even with them. And teach them not to let those emotions guide them. Taking potential jedi as children, sheltering them away from the world, and having them avoid attachments just gets them less practice at life.
  7. Of the two people Anakin was attached to enough to want to save, neither died what could be called naturaly. His mother was murdered by Sand People. His wife, well, not even the medical droid could explain why she died... just that she didn't want to live anymore. As for the Force extending life, its happend several times throughout SW lore. An example that stands out was the Sith Leader (of the race, before they mixed with jedi - not the sith now) that lead his people for hundreds of years and fought against the Infinite (Rakata) Empire. As for side affects, who knows. Don't seem like their would be any. Still remember from the movie just before Yoda died and Luke is all "You can't die." and Yoda responds "I'm strong in the force, but not that strong." Kinda implies that someone stronger in the force would be able to live longer.
  8. Its not like their aren't real world countries where some people have no faith in their government, but still love their country. I always figured it was the regular human imperials who kept things running semi-smoothly. The Darth powerhouses are around incase of war, invasion, whatever. But they'd think anything else would be beneath them. The Lords and other lesser Sith run around for the Darths playing some messed up version of Clue with each other. All the while, the rest of the empire is just trying to do their job. Anyway, it would be neat and challenging to have more variety in the empire-based classes that have to work around the sith, rather than as one of them.
  9. Never got the whole "no attachments" thing myself. Its a system set up to fail. First off its stilly to think that you won't know anyone long or close enough to form a 'dangerous attachment' too. And having fewer attachments means those you have are even more precious or powerful. Also, living your whole life denied of attachments and supressing your emotions means you are less capable of dealing with an emotional issue if one comes along. So again... Its a system set up to fail. Seems like it'd be much better teaching people a 'good' and 'safe' way to deal with their emotions rather than ignoring them.
  10. Based on the original teachings? Of the Sith or their Dark Jedi Masters? The Sith were a race, ruled over by Dark Jedi outcasts. They inter-bred until they were one entity. Their original techings were intended to be evil. Wether or not a force sensitive being can use emotions or not is a different question. The Sith though, were evil before they were ever known as Sith. The teachings they made, therefore, would have been designed to promote that evilness.
  11. Yes. Sith are evil. I am refering to the organization though, not just anyone that uses the Dark Side of the Force. There may be exceptions to the Sith=Evil rule, but they'd be few and far between. Most "good" force users wouldn't even survive the trials without giving up their "goodness". The watered down version the players go through doesn't detail it all. (I am still LOLing at earning 100 light side points for pardoning an attempted murderer so she can kill people for my team instead.) Its possible that a Sith could turn good later, but unlikely. Some odd event would be needed to shift them away from their beliefs. Not to mention that their fellow Sith would slaughter them if it became known. The Sith as a whole view "good" people as weak and would never allow one to remain in the ranks. Also remember that many Force Sensitive people can often sense emotions in others. This would greatly increase the difficulty of hiding it for all but the most skilled. More than likely they'd have to leave the Sith and the Empire entirely or give up their "goodness" trying to hide it. As to wether or not everyone that uses the Dark Side of the force is evil... who knows. As mentioned a few jedi characters use a dark-side skill or two. And their are plenty of non-jedi & non-sith force using organizations. I find it hard to believe that in a fictional galaxy worth of force-sensitvies that their wouldn't be a few individuals that use the Dark Side for good causes. They would be the exception though, not the rule. Also, as to people swearing by whatever Lucas has said in the past. I think you'll find that anything can be ret-conned or changed if something comes along worth changing it.
  12. Getting darkside points for trying to reveal some evil senator's plans to betray the republic is mindboggling. Personaly I think this quest was put in just to show how confusing the political situation is there, but it failed. Its painfuly obvious that the senator is the "bad guy". The person who stops you doesn't even argue on that point. Merely that I am interfering with the political process and some gibberish about not letting him have his own view or soemthing. When all my character was doing is letting everyone else know what his hidden view/plan/whatever was. If the negative points were because of the method of doing it, then you should get just as many darkside points for lying to and decieving the person you are supose to be working for. A MUCH better way to express the confusion and corruption is if the documents had turned out holding some other sort of sensitive information, and you wound up destroying a senators career that was loyal to the republic. In the long run. I don't think that one light/dark choice will make that much difference though.
