  1. they have different design teams for differerent aspects of the game..i see it as a huge benifit, seeing as there is currently no pvp space combat, and it came out as #1 in thier poll so i guess alot of people are interested in this feature :D

Where do you think all this money would come from? You know how expensive it is to have devs for a full on space game and the main game? You don't just plop in 1 designer and 2 programmers for something like that. You really should first learn about how things work in the back end instead of just spouting out things you don't know anything about.

  2. They should have had full space game in at launch. Playing catch up now is something they wouldn't have to have done. How on earth they could have made a star wars game without space is something I'll never get my head around.

And it's funny how they've been so quiet about it, but now it's come out top in the polls, suddenly they're soooo excited.

No they shouldn't have. You obviously don't know what it takes to make a game, especially one like ToR. Creating a completely separate space simulator type game where it will be open and not on rails, takes a long time.

  3. The man-power isn't shorter by necessity, just by choice. It's well documented that the move to F2P increased, rather than decreased, their profit margin. They're making a lot of money: the issue is where (and on what) they invest it.

This is why I think the OP has an excellent point with this thread. If we can discuss things like the content of cartel packs with the developers, we can discuss what we want from the game itself, and what they're willing to give us.

(And what we're willing to give them back in return. The cold calculus of profit.)

It is actually shorter by necessity because of money. They can't afford to keep extra devs AND add a whole new team for the CM. The whole reason going f2p was because they needed more money and subs weren't enough due to cancellations. You don't have to spend that extra money for CM developers then you have that extra money to add in-game developers. Adding extra developers allows you to do a lot more things like maybe keep up with class stories. You already have to keep up with content in general via Operations, events, pvp stuff, balancing classes, etc. Simply not tons of time left for other things which requires man power.

  4. Thank you for confirming that you don't know how many LOTRO, Aion, or Tera subscribers there are. You don't know if SWOTR has more or not.

In 2003, MMOs didn't have millions of subscribers, and 300k was a successful MMO. It was a different market back then.

The bad part about dailies is that it's a big chunk of what they consider PVE content & waste development on them post-launch. "If I don't want to do them, I don't have to" applies to storylines I don't like, PVP, crafting, etc.

You obviously didn't read and comprehend my entire post and only saw a link. It's okay though. There are people who have issues with that so ain't no thang. ToR has more then Tera and all those games I mentioned. google.com is your friend.

  5. You guys are all pvpers lol people like me who just play to have fun in a SW sim are not going to have to worry about being killed cause we are not gonna play on a pvp server. I have always said that pvp and pve should be completly seperate games. And I honestly wouldnt mind at all if pvp is unbalanced. Why should it be? Dosent make sense from a lore stand point. Plus the real world isn't balanced so why should the virtual world be? Class balance ruins fun and is the downfall imo of a great many MMO's.

Please don't say all because I am not a pvp. I play for the end game raiding. I only pvp here and there in random WZs just for a change of pace, but I am no pvp player. Multi-classing should be kept for pvp focused games and even sandbox games being those don't have much of an end game.

  6. Do you find it fun to be killed repeatedly by someone you cannot possibly win against? Because that's what happens when those who just 'play for fun' run into games that don't even attempt any balance.

Yep! And for those thinking SWG, that was a game of HUGE imbalance. CMs used to dominate. Throw a poison spam leg shot or whatever. Easy kill for you. The person would die in seconds. Then there were creature handlers who could tame rancors with ease and just release them on people to dominate. TKA then once just unloaded on people.

  7. One of the many things about Star Wars Galaxies that should have carried over to this game but didn't.

Ummmm why would ToR carry over anything from SWG? These are completely different games. Different developers. Different everything. Nothing from SWG should have been carried over from SWG. Sandbox game vs Theme park. Also SWG couldn't even crack 300k subs at peak. So to reiterate, SWG and ToR are completely different games. There is a reason many mainstream mmo's don't have multi-classing either.

  8. There's a flaw with your thinking. That being the devs have already stated the CM team and the content team are two distinctly separate teams, and the CM team in no way affects the timeline on what the content team can do.

Yes 2 different teams which require pay still. If there was no CM and still a sub based game, then they wouldn't be paying a team to do fluff stuff and could pay more game developers for content and things of that nature. So the man power is shorter now due to this.

  9. When have u waited 3 hours? At 6am in the morning? Never have to wait more than 30 minutes (on a rp-server). With 4vs4 coming up u will queue up a lot faster.

That is a good point too, but I will say I have waited well over an hour until I left the queue but I have also only waited 30-45 mins too. This was awhile ago though. The queue times seemed to be all over the board though. From 15-20 mins to 2+ hours. I have experienced this throughout the day and night on Saturdays and mon-thurs from around 6pm-9pm.

  10. Show me the numbers. I don't think you have any real idea of how populated the other games you listed are.

With that being said, it took 6 years after the "disaster patch" to finally bury Galaxies.

Actually I do but obviously you don't understand how google works. ToR already commented recently in their rising of numbers and money compared to a year ago. I know google is hard, but you can do it!

And yep ToR has a lot more active players then those games I mentioned. But I know you are clueless and just had to say, "how do you know. show me numbers" type reply.

SWG fyi, never broke 300k subs at peak either. http://users.telenet.be/mmodata/Charts/Subs-2.png Game was going to be buried even if there was no ToR.

  11. The class storylines are a huge part of the game. It does take a lot of time and money to continue them. If this game stayed sub only and kept at least 500k+ subs, then I would bet there would be a continuation of class stories. But there just isn't that income or time now that the CM is the focus and then the other content that keeps needing to be done. They can say they feel people want the grouping more etc. but imo I think it is just an excuse because they can't just say, "Well we don't have the time or money to continue to do class stories so we had to take another route."

I am sure if they did an in-game poll, more people would want class stories to continue vs how Makeb was.

Maybe on a major expansion they will but who knows.

This goes for probably why no new classes will be introduced. They will need to completely do a whole new storyline for them lvl 1-50. Not saying they won't ever add one, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

  12. Cross Server queues are a good idea. Allows faster queue times and more people to adventure with.

Hopefully we shall see it soon. And BW can simply add an option to 'Not Queue Cross Realm' to the Group Finder for those people that want to stay isolated on their home server.

    Then everyone is happy.

Are you a programmer? (not asking this in a rude manor either) It isn't as simple as just adding a check box that says don't queue cross realm and BAM it does that. If they are going to go cross realm it will be all or nothing. There won't be an option for that. It is a waste of time. If you don't want to cross realm then start asking for a group in chat. Also if there was something like that, your queue time will probably be even longer because it takes the next person in line and people from your server might not mind cross realming. I would be surprised if you even got in a group most of the time unless you play for hours at a time.

But for the topic at hand, I think it may benefit more having this due to the queue times. If people are waiting 4 hours or even 2, that is ridiculous. It sucks to see things resort to this but it is how it is now. You need to adjust to the times. The days of doing only things with your own server are dwindling down fast. But I rather have a 30 min queue vs a 2-4 hour queue.

  13. I can't believe people still talk about and think this game is going to shut down. This has more of an active player base then the majority of the main stream mmo's out there now. So if this game is going to shut down soon then Tera, Warhammer, AoC, Rift, LotR, Aion, TSW, etc. will all shut down at the end of this year.

As for the OP, that is how mmo's work. They offer you dailies, 1 hr for cool companion that is OPTIONAL is not a lot of time nor that hard of work to get. The 1mil credit pet is your choice also. I wouldn't really call just spending money content though. If there was a quest chain like HK then sure.

Overall, the game is f2p. You can't expect all this new and big content all the time. We will get things here and there and then the bigger stuff will be a new operation etc. We can thank ourselves as a mmo community for games going f2p since people don't want to pay a $15 sub fee yet I am sure a lot of those same people spend more then $15 a month now just on the CM.

But anyways the game is not moving backwards or really forwards imo. It is going in the normal direction most do and it is doing fine.

  14. I think that if Bioware buffed Sorc dps and gave them better defensive cool downs, they would also inevitably nerf their ability to heal while in DPS spec. Would people find that an acceptable trade off?

That is the whole point. When you spec dps, you are focusing on dps not healing. A dps sorc shouldn't have to look after healing others in the raid or themselves. I don't think sorc should be glass cannons like a mage though. Sorc are pure dps classes. They can either heal or dps. But dps wise they should be a lot more competitive in numbers but not topping charts.

  15. There are a couple quotes from people that really made me lmao and shows they have no clue what end game pve is.

"As far as healing in the middle of a boss fight, what options does a pure dps have once they have gone through their cool downs? Death or pray the healer gets them back in the fight. Sorc can heal themselves (to full if they really wanted to) to prevent their death keeping them in the fight longer. While your DPS may suffer when you have to heal yourself, it goes down even more when you are dead."

"How much more DPS would you lose if you were dead over spending the 1-2 GCDs to heal yourself?

I see nothing wrong with the dev responses. People are just blowing things out of proportion again in an attempt to manipulate people into agreeing with them."

First off, when I was raiding here in all difficulty levels up to the one before the digital expansion (whatever one that was when D3 came out too) that as a sorc I never had to heal myself and my dps I had no issues finishing in the top 2.

Secondly, in WoW for example, if a healer couldn't keep up the raid then they likely would not be welcome to raid with that guild again. Not saying wipes can't happen, I am talking about to where a dps person, hybrid or not, had to self heal through every fight (not counting health stones and things like that) instead of focusing on dps, then that is a problem.

Those who think this is how it is supposed to be and self heal when you are specced dps shows they have never done end game pve. If actual healers can't keep the raid alive to where you need your dps'er to self heal instead of do dmg, then there is a huge problem. Like I said before, playing a dps sorc and clearing all the hard modes/nightmare modes up till that one I mentioned and never had a problem where we needed to self heal.

I don't know how the raiding is anymore as I stopped raiding on ToR, but I am glad I don't after hearing some of this stuff. Don't get me wrong, I still love the game and still sub because I just play ToR to mess around some and level alts to see the other stories because this is the only game I actually enjoy making alts on, but for raiding I stuck to WoW and glad I did after this.

I am sure things will calm down in time. I haven't personally experienced this stuff but I had to comment on those who agree and tell others who are specced dps that they need to self heal and bringing up being == no dps. Of course dead == no dps, but the healer should be keeping them up then. Never was an issue before.

  16. From the middle towards the end of this thread I see a lot of talk about sub and f2p and then Blizzard's name being brought up etc.

It seems, at least I don't remember anyone saying, was a very important fact that just happened and that is Blizzard buying themselves out of Vivendi. That is huge and WILL play a big effect for the company. A positive effect. I have a feeling this was in the works which was the reason for Titan being completely re-done.

I do agree though it appears more games are going f2p though. Whether Blizzard makes WoW f2p in time or Titan we won't know yet. Titan won't be released for at least 6-7 years and by then things may change. Let's see what ESO does. I haven't heard what it will be yet.

As of now though, f2p is bringing people back to those games and the companies are making more money off it. LotR had said it helped them a lot as ToR has said they have made more money in f2p. But until the next mainstream mmo is released, we can't say for sure f2p will be the only way to go for now.

I prefer sub based but the only people to blame is the mmo community. People say they don't have time to justify the cost. So what does that become? Easy mode content, free hand outs, whiners still complaining about things and then this results to content done in a short period of time and the company simply can't keep pumping it out fast enough due to they need to make money also.

I just wish mmo's stayed sub based.

  17. 1) Would love if they turned that casino place into a working casino. I know it may never happen because it will ruin the in-game economy or just have it working for fun. From Pazaak to fun slots etc.

    2) Open world space combat of course. NOT like JTL though. Didn't like it and seemed slow. Something more fast paced and intense.

    3) A new operation that is long like a naxx or Ulduar type.

  18. Should they?

Or at least a part of the forum?

Yes i know that Bioware probably won't allow normal f2pers onto the forum, but what about preferred status, or at least the preferred status members who used to be subscribers? In other words if this was a reality, you can't just buy a back of $5 worth of cartel coins to enter the forums, but instead at least $15 for 30 days, and when that time runs out, you can still have some part of the forum to post on.

I'm not asking that former subscribers get all the access to the forums as current subscribers do, but i think it would be nice for a small part of the forum, where former subscribers can post. Said forum could also allow subscribers in, so there can still be communication between the 2 groups.

I know games like Rift allow you to post in their forums without a subscription as long as you have an account now. Not sure about Tera or the other f2p games (besides GW2 as I know you can there).

As for here I honestly don't care. Yes more complainers will come out of the walls to post how much they hate the game and how bad it is etc. (I love the game btw) but overall I personally could care less. I like it only being for subs but if it changes so be it.

Definitely not for f2p people though who never subbed.

  19. As many of you know Disney now owns LucasArts and LucasArts has the final say on this product and its lifespan. Seeing the game has not been an sucess and hosts a small minority of people do you think LucasArts will bring back the casuals and fix the game which will in turn make the game more easier for you Hardcore Elite.

Or will they just shut the game down and move on? I know vacant ghost towns of an MMO are what you all see as a sucess but they just forced the merge of servers and its still a ghost town compared to popular MMOs.

You really should think before you post because it shows how clueless you are. I am dying to hear how you know this game isn't a success. (Oh please learn to spell the word successful also since you seem to know so much about this company and game)

I didn't realize you worked for EA or Biaware in the finance department and know the income coming in of the game. Yeah this game must not be a success even though they made a bigger profit then last year.

  20. I have to agree that leveling in this game is by far the best, for me anyways. This was the first game where I actually wanted to make alts and I ended up maxing out 4 toons and a couple in their 30's/40's. Sure a couple planets I just want to rush through, but the stories in general be it class and planet, just made it a lot more enjoyable. In WoW I only had 1 alt which I made to play with this girl from work back in Vanilla. But never touched it again until last expansion and I just now got that alt to 90 heh.

Maybe because WoW is a lot bigger and maxes at 90, but overall I just don't and didn't enjoy it as much as I did in ToR.

ToR is a great game. I have fun in it and to me that is all that matters.

  21. Does anyone have a link to any and all information pertaining to this secret space project, not what someone said that someone else said but actual quotes from the horse

If I recall I thought I read something very Vague about the possibility but nothing that indicated that this was actually being worked on.

I haven't seen anything but the last thing I remember reading from them was it was on their board of things they want to add. I don't remember when that was though and not going to try and find the link but that was the only thing I remember reading from them.

  22. Now don't flame me or anything as I am just repeating what someone said a long while back, way before f2p, but at that time they said they were going to make the space combat like Free Space 2. I know it was from a forum person, but the way they said it did sound like it could have been the truth. Again, this way back then so with f2p that could have changed or they could have lied and trolled but it didn't seem like a troll which is why I am just repeating this.

I never played Free Space so I don't know if that is good or bad. Personally I feel that may have been an idea then but now it could be something completely different. Only time will tell if the SSSC will even happen.

  23. I don't think it will be laggy or too much if it was an instanced guild hall but a ship like a star destroyer type. Something of larger size.

I could see this happening but not for awhile because of f2p, Cartel Market first then they need to go back to content for pve then pvp and cartel stuff still throughout. Not putting down the game for that but doing things like this cost money and since the main source of income is the market, gotta worry about that first. I don't think it will be that hard or much money to do an instanced type thing.

I don't really care about needing or wanting one but I can see it a nice feature for a lot of guilds.

  24. Not sure what you mean here? Like WoW's community? Have you played WoW? The community is fairly identical to ToR but I think ToR's is actually better. I currently play this and WoW but WoW more so because I enjoy their end game a lot more but I love both games.

If you mean getting subs or active people up to the 7 mil range, good luck with that. Nothing we could do would get that total.

But in WoW you have the forums flooded with "The game is dying" threads. In game you still have tons of idiots who just troll non stop. Everything is queued for now so you just queue, do your thing, leave.
