  1. That's why an NPC like a little boss as the VIP can be an other idea (to be sure, teams have the same VIP to protect, like a jedi master and sith lord, etc...)

I like this idea. Kind of like protecting/attacking a living, mobile turret. It's like a mini-skirmish, and each officer is leading a team to battle. It could even be done in rounds like Voidstar, if they didn't want to have both going at the same time, so there's a defined defend/attack phase. Or, each VIP could have different phases; offensive and defensive. Lots of possibilities.

  2. Does anyone think it's crazy to ask that consumption, rather than take our own life, come from an enemy? It wouldn't have to take a ridiculous amount of life, but I think a lifetap-type ability fits with a sorc. Of course, there'd have to be a longer cooldown on it than the current consumption, which has just the GCD.

Or, what about some kind of ability where, you cast it on an enemy, and if they hit you, you regen force faster? Just a couple thoughts...

  3. I'm surprised the 'Arena Sorc/Sage Damage per Second' category is so underrepresented. I had a match with 1339 dps not even trying that hard and didn't SS it. I'm coming back this week for that number 1 spot.

Ooh! I hadn't even noticed. Time to hop on my sorc! I finally joined the 300k/300k club with him in regs. Hell, I could pull 200 DPS and make this list! That's me: Setting the bar for mediocrity all over the place! :rak_03:

  4. While I'd love to agree with you, the ridiculously active solo ranked on our server on Monday would have been even more painful if bolster wasn't implemented. It's just that there's a couple key differences between the NiM ops and Ranked.

The first is that progression PvE doesn't rely on other teams doing the same content, in general a server could only have 8 people in one raid team and those 8 people would be content, whereas population is much more highly valued in PvP. Making it more inclusive to people who actually know how to make gear bolster is a nice thing.

The second is that you can choose not to take a person along with your for a raid, but we, unfortunately, cannot stop people who either are horrible and/or have horrible gear from queuing for ranked. As much as I wanted to, I had no way from stopping the 27k hp/1.5k exp sent, 24k hp/1.2 exp vig guardian in shii-cho form, the 25k hp/1.2k slinger, or the 40k hp/900 exp mando from queuing. Even though they were all so horrible that no team with them won a match, they would have been even worse if they weren't bolstered.

Fair enough. I have two thoughts on this:

1.) If they weren't bolstered, and immediately melted, would that discourage them enough from queuing without gear?

2.) What about instituting an expertise-check?

Of course, if I play against you, I think you should always get the folks you mentioned. :rak_03:

I somewhat disagree about making it more inclusive. I think, for the most part, the people who are in ranked for the long haul already gear properly for PvP. What bolster does is create loopholes that later get closed, but people who are super "smart" don't realize it's closed. For example, I saw a regstar equip empty shells. Used to work; not so much now. So, rather than optimize, people look for the next (dare I say) exploit. Remove bolster, and you know what your stats are when you queue.

On a side note, can we all chill out on our reactions? I know it's not what most people wanted to hear, but at least we heard something. Eric's creating a dialogue. Personally, I'd rather he not regret it. Do we REALLY want to go back to when we got zero dev posts? Bad news is better than no news.

  5. why is bolster in ranked pvp? Why not just require a high level of pvp gear?

this is a great question, and one we put a lot of thought into when the decision made to keep bolster in ranked pvp. As many of you likely know, in the past we had an entry level set of pvp gear called the recruit set. Wearing this set into a warzone would put you at an “entry level” for pvp. However, having recruit gear in the game created two important factors:

    1. The player needed to know that this is how pvp at max level worked.

    2. The player needed to then get the gear and actually equip it.

Although this may seem like something which is obvious to many of you who are more seasoned and hardcore pvpers, these factors being missed led to many players first experience being that they got completely stomped in pvp. Although we understand that there are certainly “dues to be paid” when you play pvp, they shouldn’t come right at the beginning of someone’s pvp career. We also want the ranked population to be as high as possible within the level 55 bracket so we have bolster in place so more players can participate in the system.

The best solution for this situation was a systematic approach which puts all players on an even footing when they enter the system. We know that some feel the best solution is to simply make everyone have the same gear and stats when in pvp so that it is purely a measure skill and skill alone. However, we feel that as an mmo, gear progression is a major cornerstone of its long term gameplay. We feel that bolster takes both of those ideas into account and lands as a nice middle ground.

It is very unfortunate that bolster has experienced issues since its implementation which certainly created pain points for our pvp community. However we will continue to work to ensure that bolster is working as intended! I think we can all agree that having the first time you pvp be a positive experience will go to great lengths to ensuring that those folks stick around and continue to pvp!

I can appreciate the thought behind this, but this is ranked...To me, that's comparable to NiM ops; you can't walk in with Rakata gear and hope to clear everything. You go in, get your face smashed, then you figure out why. I may be in the minority, but it might actually be a positive to discourage the casual PvP'er from ranked. I see a full 72 geared teammate in regs; no big deal. Ranked, though? C'mon. Bolster gives them the illusion that they're competitive, but it just isn't the case.

Am I great at PvP? I think anyone who's played with me will say no. I still would like to think that folks would rather see me in my 2018 expertise rather than a PvE hero with 1500. Unless they're on the other team...

  6. and nahhh im just a scrub nobody knows me

Well, call me "nobody". I miss the ranked kickball nights we used to have, even if I was garbage, and was quiet in chat. Who'd have thought one could look back at Preseason and think, "Wow, that was awesome...those were the days?"

  7. Good luck man, it is rough going on a sorc. WTB more Vanguards, operatives, and smashers.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Luckily, I ended up in 3 DPS, 1 tank matches, and I was the only one capable of off-healing for either team. Easily cruised to 4-0. I wish I had that luck more often...

  8. Yeah, I have to apologize to the folks that queued with me Saturday night. I was super drunk, and thought I could heal the world. I was wrong. :rak_04: I even had one guy cuss me out in whisper, then put me on ignore. :o Guess who got stuck with me again the next match? :D

The good news is, after torpedoing my rating that night, I decided for a fresh start with my sorc that hadn't seen rateds yet. Actually turned out well! I've realized that Tier 1 is not going to be a possibility for me, but I'm hoping to get to tier 2 on my sorc.

  9. Yeah, I don't get what all the backlash is about here. I mean, I PvP, will likely not get the ranking for the rancor, but also am not going to throw a fit over it. I also really want the EC tank mount (the only mount I've ever had the desire to run an op for specifically to get). As far as I know, they've removed the ranking requirement from all the PvP mounts that were currently in game.
  10. I may get some guildies drunk enough to run with me. I feel guilty in some of the matches, because frankly, I'm not that good. I hate to drag my team down just because they got stuck with me in the solo queue.
  11. 2018 and 10% of a brain.... but that is too much to ask.....

Okay, I *have* 10% of a brain and 2018. Am I required to actually *use* that 10%? If so, I might be out....:rak_02:

On a side note, are there any 4-man teams queuing, or is it all solo pops right now?

  12. I think the pubs enjoyed playing against my teams during a match yesterday...Once we were down 45-25, I just started flying into asteroids. If you ever see me write "mercy flush" in ops chat, that's what's going to happen.

Screw the Empire; For the Daily! :rak_03:

  13. Hey Adrian!

This is a good question! My goal would be to not provide new meme ammunition in the answers :rak_03:. However, there are some changes coming to Sorcs/Sages in Game Update 2.7 which we are aiming to post about tomorrow. My hope is that the community feels that they are good changes and feel it addresses the feedback provided!

I will have more info tomorrow.

    -eric

PS - Other classes are receiving changes as well, look for that info tomorrow.

If you give me a reason to dust off my sorc for PvP again, I wouldn't be angry. :rak_03:

  14. I disagree. In fact, I would venture to say that in order for someone to win, someone else must lose. And, if you follow the forums here at all, you'd have to agree that we're all losing. Our patience, our integrity, our minds... So, someone, somewhere must be winning.
