No, it has nothing to do with that at all. It's to prepare for the free trials this weekend. It's on the dev blog and patch notes sections now.

Maybe if they do this after 1.2 it'll drum up some new blood, but not enough's changed to bring people back/bring new people in.

It's a fix for the weekend trial thing. Yes, they're forcing you to not play their game, that you paid for, so that people can play it for free. Magical.
