Why do you need to be facing your target to use it? Is this a bug that was never addressed?

I'm only level 16 and I've already come across quests designed to be ninja looted. This is a deal breaker if I come across more quests that are designed to be ninja looted. I play this game to have fun, not to be pissed off because the developers makes quests you can't do with more then 1 person in the zone
